How does Giant Cell Tumour process and How it treat?

I had swollen in my right knee before 15 months. At first the doctors thought that this is emorthross. After that I went to Pakistan and operated for Giant Cell Tumour and put bone cement, and the result of Biopsy was also Giant Cell tumour. But after 7 months it came again and I was operated again on March 2006,and the result of biopsy was the same. But I have still problems with my knee it hurts me and it is swollen. I Think it came for the 3.th time.

Pulmonary Nodules w/ Giant Cell Tumor...?

I am a 28yo female with a 3-yr persistent dry/barking cough and I recently had a chest x-ray that showed a 4x7mm dense pulmonary nodule. I also have a history of Giant Cell Tumor. Since I was referred to separate docs for each instance, I'm wondering if I should be worried that something was missed. Should I push the issue or would I be just another hypochondriac? I am also completely negative for Tb.
It was a diffuse benign tumor and the xray was for the cough/asthma. So, I don't think any of the doctors knew the whole story. I may not be giving them credit though, they all received the documentation, I just can't know if it was read. Thanks for the advice!
----------

Was your giant cell tumor benign or malignant? Did the doctor who sent you for the x-ray know your history? There isn’t much that can be done for a small pulmonary nodule. You should have another x-ray in 4-6 months to see if it has changed. If your tumor was malignant you should inform your oncologist as they may want other work up.  (+ info)

Has anyone had a Giant Cell Tumor return more than twice?

Hi All, I have a Giant Cell Tumor growing in my femur bone. I am scheduled for surgery for the 2nd time. I have done some research on this and know that there is a high chance these grow back once after removal. However, has anyone had them come back more than twice? I know this is now going to be a life long issue, but just curious to see what my chances are that I will have to continue to deal with this. My Doctor does not want to replace my bone with a rod as he states I will be disabled for sure and at my age, he doesn't want to try that. So, he is going to try and get it all out without having to replace the bone. If you have had experience with this, please let me know.

My son had a rod put in his femur bone at 16 years old and has had no problem with it. He is not disabled at all. You might want to get a second opinion on this one. You do not want to keep having surgery over and over again.  (+ info)

My mom is at the late stage of benign Giant Cell Tumor on her knee. How bad is this situation?

My mom is at the late stage of benign Giant Cell Tumor on her knee. On the x-ray there's a hole on it. The doctor said if at the worst stage one might need amputation. Is it really that bad?

Does anyone have any experience with that. Please help!!! I will really really appreciate it!

Updated:
The tumor is a result of her hitting her knee instead of a natural development. The doctor said it is concentrated on the knee area and would not spray.

p.s. How many cases have ppl got amputated because of the tumor?

Advice needed with regards to reducing the steroid dosage with giant cell artiritus?

I have been taking steroids for gca/ pmr but the side effects have been very severe, tremors, extreme tiredness, insomnia, water retention to name a few, my dosage was raised to 60 mg because at 40mg the improvement was not good enough. At 60mg the headaches subsided as did the visual distortions but after two weeks the dosage was dropped to 50mg and now 40mg, the problem is my visual distortion is bad again and my head is constantly fogged and I feel really unwell generally. Im not expected to see my consultant for another 2mths but feel that my lower dose is bringing the symptons back to the forefront. Would be interested in hearing from others who have had been on steroids for Giant Cell Artiritus and compare if they too experienced similar problems as their dosage lowered.
----------

You want to strike a balance between your GCA symptoms and your steroid dosage. I would not think that feeling unwell and having visual distortions are an acceptable price to pay for lowering your steroid dosage. Contact your doctor so you can adjust your medication dose.  (+ info)

what is giant cell arteritis?

It was caused by a bite from an insect thought it was a tick
----------

Giant cell arteritis is an inflammatory condition that involves the body's immune and inflammatory system attacking the wall and lining of arteries. The inflammation can involve lymphocytes, neutrophils, eosinophils and multinucleated giant cells, thus the name. The inflammatory lesion resembles something called a granuloma and the kind of inflammation is often called granulomatous inflammation. It may look like something caused by infection with tuberculosis or caused by inclusion of a foreign body, like the mouth parts of a tick, but giant cell arteritis typically has no virus, bacterium or foreign material in it. A tick bite can cause a granuloma but it is not likely to be associated with the wall of an artery.

Giant cell arteritis can involve the temporal artery, in which case it might be called temporal arteritis. Since the temporal arteries supply oxygenated blood to the eyes, damage to this vessel caused by the inflammation can result in partial or complete blindness.

Although there's no cure for giant cell arteritis, immediate treatment with corticosteroid medications usually relieves symptoms and prevents loss of vision.
