Should Ganglion Cysts hurt when you bend your wrist? Also should my wrist be clicking an awful lot?

I had a ganglion removed from my right wrist and it was painful before I had the op each time I bent my wrist I had pain and also I couldn't put my hand flat on the floor because it wouldn't go flat it felt as if something was preventing it. I was given 2 solutions the 1st was to drop a heavy book onto my hand or have an operation which I chose after the op I was in a lot of pain as with each movement my hand made the pain shot up my arm but it was well worth getting done it hasn't came back and all I'm left with is a small scare, I had the op done 17 years ago and I'm glad I got it done I can put my hand flat on the floor now without any pain whatsoever  (+ info)

Why do ganglion cysts reoccur? What prevents reoccurances?

I have had two surgically removed from the same spot on my wrist & it returns within a week or two.
----------

I had one on my wrist, years ago. The doc offered to remove it, but didn't advise it since it didn't cause any pain. It went away by itself after about a year, and hasn't come back. That was about 20 years ago.

Oh, did you know that they used to "cure" them by smashing them with a heavy book?  (+ info)

Will a parameniscal, and ganglion cyst heal by themselves?

I am supposed to have surgery in 2 days, for a severe tear of the meniscus in my knee. Also have a parameniscal cyst and a ganglion cyst, also on the knee. I have seen an answer here, that the meniscus can heal by itself, but what about the cysts? This scares me, and I don't want to go 150 miles to the doctor for surgery if I don't have to. Thank you!

cysts are usually encapsulated and connected with joint fluid somehow on any part of body, wrists, ankles, etc. they have to have the capsule removed or it just keeps coming back.  (+ info)

How to prevent a ganglion cyst?

I have a bad history with ganglion cysts, I get them at least once every year or sometimes twice. In the past, I've had them on both wrists. For the past couple of days I have felt one coming onto my right wrist again. I can feel mild pain already, but these things hurt so much and I really want to prevent them for occurring again. I don't want surgery done, they come back again anyways.

What are some measure I can take to prevent it from occurring again?
By the way, I am left handed.
Thanks :)

Apart from splinting both wrists permanently so that you can't use them, I don't think there is any way to stop them occurring. But you could try wrist braces to support your wrists - this may slow down the occurrence - or at least help ease any pain they cause.

Unfortunately once you've proven you are prone to them, it's just a fact of life :(

Sometime with surgery they can mend the joint it is coming from (if it is from a joint) I don't know of anything they can do if it is coming from a ligament.  (+ info)

Ganglion cysts i have one on my foot?

its killing me i just want it out i dont have health insur. right now the pain is unreal what should i do
----------

Go to the ER- they wont charge you-- the procedure is simple- they numb the area and insert a needle into the cyst and drain the thick jelly-like fluid. They will also have the fluid tested to see if has any type of bacteria. The pain will go away and you shouldn't have any more problems.  (+ info)

How much will it hurt to burst my ganglion cyst using the BIble method?

I've had this cyst in my wrist for almost 6 months (from when I first noticed it). I went to the doctor he said give it time, but from what I understand it's possible cysts can call your wrist home for quite some time. I just recently began getting a pain in my wrist, nothing severe, just uncomfortable. Would it be wise to bust it using a hard book? Also, how painful is it to bust it using this method?
I forgot to mention that it always appears to be the same size each and every day. I know for some people they tend to grow and shrink on certain days, but mine just stays the same
----------

Wow, I never heard of it being called the Bible method. I've had a ganglion cyst before and if you hit it on something it ruptures and HURTS. It can also grow back. The only way to assure it won't grow back is to have surgery to remove the sac. I'd check it out with an orthopedic doctor who specializes in the hand and wrist. That's the type of doctor who removed mine several years ago and it has never come back.  (+ info)

i think i might have ganglion cysts?

so ive had this bump behind my ear for the longest time
its pretty firm but still kinda moveable
also not too long ago a similar bump formed on my neck
both are small and unnoticeable but i was wondering if ganglion cysts can appear on different areas
----------

ganglion cysts are on tendons as far as I know and I don't think you'll find any tendons behind your ears.  (+ info)

Ganglion Cysts are a pain!?

I have a rather large ganglion cyst on my left wrist and recently have started getting one on my right wrist aswell.Does anybody know why some people are more prone to getting these than others. The doc said it was prob due 2 repetative strain, but I hardly use my left hand :S The cyst on my right is causing slight pain as I use this hand most often.Anybody with any experience of ganglion cysts or advice on what they are about would be much appreciated. Thanks :)

I used to get those buggers all the time and the only way to effectively get rid of them other than letting a doctor drain them (which is REALLY painful) is wrap your wrist tightly in a towel...only one layer over the ganglion...bend your hand over the edge of a padded chair arm so the top of your wrist is right at the bend...then take a big soft cover book (a bible works well :)) and whack the ever loving sh*t out of it to rupture the sac. It'll hurt somewhat, but not as bad as the drain a doctor would do. Your wrist will feel bruised for a day or so but the cyst won't come back for a loooong time. I've done this many times and now I only get them every couple of years when I used to keep one just about all the time.

Edit: As to what they are, they are little knots or bundles of nerves with a fluid sac around them.  (+ info)

Cysts(ovarian and ganglion)?

Yesterday i was sitting around and all of a suddon i got some intense pain in my "bottom", i went into the ER and after some ultra sounds and pelvic exams they said that a cyst on my ovary had ruptured.
When i was younger i also has some ganglion cysts removed from both of my arms, i was wondering if anyone knows if there is something that i am doing to make my body produce all these cysts or if there is something i can do to prevent them in any way?
i am still in pain from the cyst on my ovary, and they think there are more on my ovaries and want me to go to a specalist to find out what to do from here, has anyone ever had one burst? i have never heard of them bursting before and the pain is pretty bad...if anyone has any personal experience with this or anything please let me know...thanks.....
----------

Yes, mine was recurring on one ovary only and I ended up having my ovary removed. They do not cause pain in everyone.
Follicular cyst: This type of simple cyst can form when ovulation does not occur or when a mature follicle involutes (collapses on itself). It usually forms at the time of ovulation and can grow to about 2.3 inches in diameter. The rupture of this type of cyst can create sharp severe pain on the side of the ovary on which the cyst appears. This sharp pain (sometimes called mittelschmerz) occurs in the middle of the menstrual cycle, during ovulation. About a fourth of women with this type of cyst experience pain. Usually, these cysts produce no symptoms and disappear by themselves within a few months. A woman's doctor monitors these to make sure they disappear and looks at treatment options if they do not.
