I think I have folliculitis. I have an appointment with a dermatologist tomorrow. What can I expect? Is there a cure? Would this cause my hair to be more greasy and fall out?

Don't know if there's a cure, but they can give you a topical for it and will probably advise you to keep it as oil-free as possible.  (+ info)

I went to the doctor on Monday for folliculitis on my right forearm. Normally they don't do anything, but he felt that it was spreading up and down my arm so he prescribed me doxycycline for it. I would say my case is a little worse than mild, as I usually have like 2 spots at a time. He told me to take the medicine for 10 days, but how long before it starts to clear up. (Note I've only taken the pills for 2 days).
Usually about 5 days in you'll see most of it has vanished. Depending on if you have left them alone. If you've picked at them, now it is a wound and will take the normal amount of heal time you generally take to heal.

The doxycycline will fix the folliculitis in a few days... the regimen takes 10 though to completely attack the bacterial infection on the inside.

If you have it pretty bad, ask your dermatologist about Re10... it's a topical wash. The antibotics (Doxycycline) kill it from the inside out and the Re10 wash will kill it from the outside in.

What type of underwear is best for reducing the risk of folliculitis? As it's getting warmer, things tend to.. chafe down there and I was wondering what type is most suitable to avoid this.

I have folliculitis on my arms, stomach and breasts and I would like to get rid of them naturally. I was on an antibiotic but my doctor doesn't want me to take another round. I am also a type 2 diabetic. So I am prone to getting this hideous skin condition. I just want to get rid of this without going on expensive medicine as I am on a limited income.

How to prevent/treat folliculitis of the face/neck?

I have taken every measure I can think of to prevent folliculitis/razor burn. I even use an electric shaver, as blade shaving is completely out of the question. Right now my derm has me using retin A which is helping a little bit. Do any guys who have ever had this have any suggestions. All are welcome, however, as said I do use an electric shaver, so any suggestions for blade shaving don't really apply here. Thank you all.
Folliculitis is a bacterial infection. Ask your derm about anti-bacterial soaps that you can use on your face. There are prescription soaps and skin treatment that you can only get from your doctor. The other option is antibiotics if the rash is really bad.  (+ info)

I have about 4 large lumps on my shin which are swollen and red and are almost running into each other. They are warm to the touch and when my jeans rub against them they hurt. I dont have "pimple" like bumps or any pus coming out of them. Is it possible for my doctor to have mistaken edythema nodosum for folliculitis?

This is really embarrasing for me to talk about. I have folliculitis--which is infected hair foliciles, mine happen to be on my scalp(looks like scabs). I REALLY want to get my hair cut but I am so embarrased to go. Last time I went the lady said something and I havent had my haircut for since then(1 year ago). Does anyone else have this problem?
its not something to worry about when you go to get your hair cut just let the hairdresser know, if shes any good she wont care. i have been a hairdresser for 10 years and i see alot and it doesnt bother me  (+ info)

Can you contract folliculitis by having sex?

I slept with a girl around 6 weeks ago and used protection, i noticed she had spots around her genital area but thought nothing of it. I ended up getting spots around my genital area while none actually on the penis or testcles. I looked at pictures on the net and it looks to be folliculitis. Im just wondering can you actually contract folliculitis from sleeping with some one or could it be something more serious?
Folliculitis is an inflammation of the hair follicle, and is not sexually transmitted. It occurs most often when you shave the area but irritate the hair follicle.

EDIT:OK i admit I didn't read the whole question before answering the first time. It could be herpes or genital warts, or a rash of some kind. Seek guidance from your doctor.  (+ info)
