How do you know if your dental implant is messed up or failing?

I got a dental implant a year or so ago and I just wonder how I'll know if it's okay, since there's no nerve in the fake tooth (obviously). How can I make sure the infection doesn't come back?

I've had an earache and headache for a few days now and I just get scared that it has to do with the implant.

your dental implant is doing excellently well...
headache and earache might be due to something else...  (+ info)

do you think your hormones and dental work are link together?

i heard that if your teeth have an infection, or you need dental work, that its connected to your blood stream, and your hormones are low,(like your progesterone levels)and can cause miscarriage... my friend said that's what her hygienist said, what do yo think?
----------

Totally true.
The blood supplying your teeth and gums is the same blood that's running through the rest of your body. If there is a serious infection in your mouth... it is very close to your brain too. A boy died in the USA last year because of a tooth infection.
Don't forget...
infection = bacteria or virus or fungus or yeast
All of these things can be transferred to you child through saliva.

Let me put it in perspective for you...
If you had a wound that was the entire length of your arm from elbow to wrist... and it was bleeding and infected... would you be concerned? Well that's the same amount of surface area your gums take up in your mouth.
If your body's immune system feels it's not strong enough, then it could trigger a miscarriage.  (+ info)

Could I take antibiotics for a dental infeccion, if I have a cold and fever?

Hello everyone,
My dentist prescribed me an antibiotic for a dental infection, but I have a cold and sore throat now.
Should I take antibiotics anyway?
Thanks a lot!
----------

The antibiotics will help any bacterial infection that the antibiotic targets (some medicines target bacteria in general; some only specific bacteria). The antibiotic will do nothing to help a cold, which is caused by a virus. Although the antibiotic will not help a cold, the cold isn't a reason not to take them. Hope that's clear and get well soon.  (+ info)

Can dental problems cause headaches, neck pain and pain in the lower back?

I have major dental problems that need to be addressed. (like 3 exposed root canals) I'm just wondering, can that lead to an infection in my jawbones or travel to my nervous system? I've been having dizziness and a real stiff neck and stiff lower back.
----------

Any infection in your teeth can lead to infections elsewhere- infections can spread to the heart, sinus region, brain, etc. Very serious and this needs attention right away! Meanwhile, it's possible that when your teeth hurt, you're holding your head at a slight angle or hunching your shoulders unconsciously.  (+ info)

I have infection in my gums and need to see a dentist immediately but cannot afford one. Where can I go?

I am 58 years old and the last time I went to the dentist I was told I have infection in my gums. I have used everything, salt water, peroxide, all kinds of different toothpaste and mouthwash, and dental floss, but the problem only gets worse. Does anyone know where I can find a free dental clinic in New Orleans because I cannot afford to pay anybody else right now and I am tired of suffering like this.

Am I entitled to help with dental treatment costs if I have an abnormal heart valve?

I have a heart condition named Epstein Anomaly which is an abnormality of the heart valve. As a result I have to have antibiotics (which is costly) anytime I have dental treatment which I have to have regularly to decrease risk of infection. Am I exempt from NHS charges and/or entitled to help with health costs, including NHS prescription and dental treatment.

NO-next door neighbour has similar problem and gets no help at all-but check with your doctor and social services..  (+ info)

What are the effects of prolongued tooth infection?

I've been having a tooth infection for 8 months now, it doesn't or anything but i sense that there is a problem there as stuff always gets in the space between my gum and tooth no matter how much i wash, my dentist told me he has to cut the gum in order to extract the tooth (it's one of those that appears around age 20). Are there any health hazards other than dental to the fact that i've been postponing the extraction this long?
----------

if it gets infected it hurts bad. they can put you on antibotics. they say tooth infection can affect your heart. and other problems.  (+ info)

I think I have a dental infection...?

It's quite painful to swallow and there is swelling around a partially erupted wisdom tooth and also around the same area in my neck. Is this a dental infection or could it just be pain due to growth of the wisdom tooth? I've had it for a couple of days now.

Is it normal to have swollen lymph nodes after dental surgery?

I just had dental surgery on Monday and now today I just noticed my lymph nodes are swollen under the top part of my jaw almost up to my ears. It's very sore and my hearing is very sensitive as well.Is this a normal reaction from the surgery or could it be an infection?I feel dizzy a lot too but I feel fine otherwise..no fever or anything.I am worried.
----------

They could have rubbed against something that made it sensitive. The best thing to do is if you're worried about symptoms like that, is to go to your dentist, or to go to your dental surgeon, and they should be able to tell you if it is normal or not.  (+ info)
