Flank Pain?

I have been having flank pain on my right side on and off for two years. What are some possible causes? My doctor cannot find anything wrong with me. Is it all in my head? It is sometimes sharp pain.
----------

I think you can rule out kidney involvement. This type of flank pain come with fever and chills your pain pattern doesn't fit anyway. Varicella zoster (shingles) has a rash. Rule that out. That leaves spinal arthritis, disk disease and muscle spasm. Muscle spasm is the most likely. It's not in your head after all, it's in your flank. If the pain is momentary or lasts a few minutes, ignore it as best you can or apply heat. If it lasts for 30 minutes or more, use one of the new adhesive heat patches available OTC. You can also speak to your doctor about this and inquire about the advisability of using Baclofen, to prevent spasm.  (+ info)

Will the drug Pyridium help with kidney stone pain in the flank?

It is 1:20 am here, so my only option for medical help is the Emergency Room. I have had two kidney stones, so I am sure this pain is from another stone. I have the medication Pyridium here. Will this help with pain in the flank from a kidney stone?
----------

yes, it should help if it is a stone, the pain is usually when the stone is on the move causing spasms. That is what the medication is for pain/spasms of urinary system. If it is not a stone then it won't help. But if it is then it should help you get through the night and possibly help you go ahead and pass the stone.. If not then you need to go ahead and go to the ER if it gets bad enough to be diaphoratic.  (+ info)

I have been having right and lft side flank abominal pain and I need to know what to do?

I have been having right and left side flank/abdominal pain and I need to know what to do. The pain reaches to my lower back and groin area. I hav noticed that the pain is also in the rectum area.
I have been to the doctor and she found no infection so she sent me to have a CAT scan and I am waiting for the results. There has been blood found in my urine. What is this problem?
I have been suffering with this for at least 1 year.
----------

well it sounds like u've kidney stones.you do have a lot of the symptoms:flank pain which radiates to the genital area and is colicky(on and off), the pain is so severe that the patient can't stand still and never finds a position that alleviates the pain.the stones also irritate the ureteral and urethral mucosa and cause "isoltated hematuria" (blood in the urine but nothing else, like bacteria or proteins) stones may be diagnosed with an ultrasonography of the urinary system and also cat scans.if the stones are so large that you can't pass them, your doctor may decide to break it with radiowaves(it's not an invasive procedure, so don't worry!) if they're small enough to pass you should drink lots and lots of liquids (watter's great and drink as many glasses it takes so that your urine output is about 2liters a day),you don't need to cut off dairy or other food with high calcium but you do need to discontinue any supplements with calcium.
hope you feel better!  (+ info)

What causes right side random back flank pain?

It isn't stabbing pain, just random aches. It has been on and off for 6 months. It would not be a pulled muscle either. I first thought kidney issues, but there aren't any other symptoms related to kidney issues. Any ideas? I'm a female if this helps, not sure if this is radiant pain from another female issue. Haven't ever had any female issues before, so this is just a guess.

What could be causing my chronic lower back flank pain?

I am 33 and have no other symptoms. I am overweight and recently got hemmoroids, I think. The pain has been present for 3 months now. It is very light dull pain that occurs maybe 3 times a day and especially when I lay down. The pain seems to be coming from the kidney area on my right side but seems to have moved. My stool is also black and comes in flakes.

GO TO YOU GP RIGHT AWAY

Black stool means you have blood in your feces, this is very serious! Do not wait, go now!

Pain in your side could be due to kidney failure or damage as well. GO NOW!  (+ info)

what are the causes of flank pain?

I recently had a bladder infection and I went to the emergency room and they said my bladder infection cleared up but I was still had pain in the flank area. They did a CT scan of my Abdomen and Pelvis and didn't see anything. This has been going on for about a month.

I have had flank pain every day for the past 2 years. I have had blood test,CT,ultrasounds and my kidneys looked ok. I think it could be muscular. I am in the same boat as you. My doctor thinks it's fibromyalgia because that is one of the areas of pain for it. Good luck to you.  (+ info)

I have pain in my lower right flank, towards the oustide. What is it?

I have a dull ache in my lower right abdomen (flank). It occured a few weeks ago, lasting for a few days, and has since returned. I only noticed it this morning, and has continued for about 6 hours so far. Any ideas as to what this is? The pain is certainly bearable, not excrutiating at all; that said, it's uncomfortable, and mildly scary. Is this something I should be concerned about?
Bear B: I do appreciate your help, but I don't think it is appendicitis; I haven't had any of the accompanying symptoms (nausea, loss of appetite, vomiting, shaking, etc.) and the pain is more a small cramp-like, colicky pain. It's also on in the middle of the lower abdominal quadrant, and feels like it's about two inches in (I'm thinking perhaps the ascending bowel?). Do you think it might be something as simple as constipation, or something else equally harmless? I'm in the middle of switching insurance providers, so I'm disinclined to head to the Doctor unless absolutely necessary; that said, if the pain gets worse I'll certainly make haste to the nearest stethescope-wearing man/woman.

Any other theories?
----------

It could be something else, but it does sound like the classic symprom pattern for appendicitis. Appendicitis is a difficult diagnosis sometimes even for a doctor. Since it occurred before, went away and came back I would say you really need to see a doctor. The doc will likely feel around a bit, then order a blood test and make a judgement call. If it's nothing serious, you will know, and if it is appendicitis you can get treated before it gets really serious. Get thee to a medicine man! Now!  (+ info)

Cause of flank pain radiating down when stressed?

I have polycystic kidney disease. Last year I had a 9mm stone work it's way through, so I know the pain a stone can cause, I also know the path it took.

Lately, when I am stressed (either briefly at work, if I burn dinner or my dog is having a barking day while the neighbours' baby is trying to sleep) I feel pain radiating down from my kidneys along a path similar to that taken by stone last year. The pain is on both sides. The pain doesn't last more than a few seconds. I suspect it is releated to my kidneys and wonder what might it be/mean. I have an appointment with my doctor next week and will ask him then, but have other people had similar experiences?
----------

I am sorry for the disease.you can ask the doctor.but I am a TCM learner. In my opinion of TCM,it is something with the Liver Meridian.the therapy in TCM is:" the disharmony of the liver qi,satasis of the liver qi.",and sometimes it is called hypochondriac pain due to stagnation of liver qi.Because the liver controls conveyance and dispersion,so make yourself feel loosen is important.and also there are a medicine called "Merry Life Powder"maybe can work.  (+ info)

Why do I have severe pain in my right flank area? After CT scan and blood work there are no abnormal findings?

Pain is only on right side, seems to be around right kidney. Sudden onset. Already had my appendix out. Ongoing for 3 weeks. No blood in urine. Kidney stones were ruled out yet the pain still persists and seems to get worse. No recent injuries or incidents. After many opinions what do I do and whats going on!?
