What's the difference between hemorrhoids and an anal fissure?

I've been having a little bit of bleeding and a very sharp pain as I go for a poo. I have been using hemorrhoid ointment for the past week both internally and externally and although it is getting a bit better it has not completely disappeared - the blood has gone but the pain is still very much there.

How do I get rid of this? It's horrible
----------

Hi YoYo,

A hemorrhoid is an inflamed vein around the anus. And an anal fissure is a tear in the skin of the anal canal.

Well it seems like the ointment is doing the trick. In the meantime, you should try to avoid straining on the toilet (this will irritate the problem even further). You can accomplish this by consuming more fiber and water - try eating more vegetables, fresh fruits, whole grains and oatmeal.

You want to avoid constipation and straining on the toilet at all cost. The results of straining during a bowel movement are never good.

Hope this helps  (+ info)

What are the dentists going to do if I have Pit and fissure caries?

I look at my teeth and i see tiny black stuff on the fissures of my molars. I am so freakin scared. Are the dentists going to do something painful?
----------

Pit and fissure caries are the smallest decay there is possible. If you see black stuff on the fissure areas of your molars, that is bec it is where we grind our food and eventually the first area or surface that gets attacked by bacteria and therefore decay starts. If decay is evident when dentist checks on it, the dentist will treat it by preparing it to receive a filling, a perm one. If it is just some stain showing, it may just need a coat of sealant on top of it. These are called pit and fissure sealants.

If the decay is shallow enough and you need a superficial filling, the dentist won't numb you unless you prefer to be numbed. You won't need to be numbed too if you just need the sealant. It is not painful at all. If you need to get numbed, a topical gel will be introduced first prior to giving you the shot, so you won't feel the prick thru the gum when it is needed.

No worries... :-) You'll be just fine.  (+ info)

How do you treat superior orbital fissure syndrome when the etiology is a neoplasm?

It's for school and I can't find the answer anywhere!
----------

Superior orbital fissure syndrome consists of retro-orbital pain, paralysis of extra ocular muscles, impairment of first trigeminal branches and frequent involvement of the optic nerve.
One must treat the neoplasm. That depends on its type. A glioblastoma would be treated differently from a lymphoma for example.  (+ info)

Is blood comes from inside rectum in an anal fissure, what is the treatment ?

I am about 33 years old and having moderate bulky body. Doctor detected a bit colostorale and some mild problem in my heart and accordingly teking medicine and going to jim to reduce my weight . but after about three months treatment sometimes blood is coming out.My Doctor saying this is anal fissure and due to medicin action it happened and he has also given me the ointment to use localy. But I am not cureing fully.
Please give me beter suggestion.

It takes time to heal. Use hot water (no soap) on a washcloth while taking a shower (once daily) or bath and keep it there for about 2-3 mins. This will clean and increase bloodflow and help it heal.  (+ info)

How long until an anal fissure heals?

I had an anal fissure less than a week ago. I've been applying preparation H and giving my self some sitz baths. Trying to watch the diet and make it high fiber. Some slight improvement, but not much. It has not helped that I just found out I had lyme disease too! Anyway, how many weeks do I have to bathe myself and apply preparation h before I get healed up? Thank you!
----------

Unfortunately, they don't always heal. My husband had one when he was in college. It turned into a rectal hernia and his doctor said that not repairing an anal fissure or rectal hernia is the leading cause of colon/rectal cancer. I suggest you go see a doctor, just to be sure.  (+ info)

what is the difference between a hemorrhoid and an anal fissure?

It would be great if you can give me some specific details, and possibly a picture also. Thanks
how can you tell them apart? Even after reading all this, I don't know which one is which.
----------

An anal fissure is an unnatural crack or tear in the skin of the anus, usually extending from the anal opening. An anal fissure is most often found right on the midline of the anus, following the natural cracks in the area, as this part of the anal wall is relatively unsupported by either muscle or tendon.

Symptoms of an anal fissure are bright red blood on underwear, in toilet water, or on toilet paper, and severe sharp pain in the area when any kind of pressure is applied.A fissure is a cut in the body, but they do not generally have the distinctively lumpy feel of a hemorrhoid, mostly an anal fissure is a tear in the anus, while a Hemorrhoid is a lump in the anus.

However, as fissures and hemorrhoids share quite a few causes in common, they are frequently found together.

If you experience any bleeding from the anus or rectum, you always need to see a doctor as there are several life-threatening conditions that also result in anal bleeding.

I found a resourceful site for Hemorrhoid which seems to me quite helpful.I am giving the link here. You can also check this out:

How do I know whether I have hemorrhoids or anal fissure?

I had this problem for 2 days.It hurts a bit during defecation and there's a little bright, pinkish blood on the toilet paper.
Should I get an ointment like Preparation H?
----------

Anal fissures are actual tears in the lining of the rectum. Therefore, simply apply a preparation of equal parts salt and vinegar to the afflicted area, and carefully record the results. Hemorrhoids have no exposed nervous tissue, and no reaction should occur.  (+ info)
