Can I put ibuprofen in water and soak my jammed finger in it?

I jammed my finger today, and I know that it's good to take Ibuprofen to keep the inflammation down.

Can I let Ibuprofen dissolve in water and soak my finger in it? Will that get the ibuprofen to the injury quicker and better? Please help, I want this to heal quickly!
I was thinking the ibuprofen would seep in there through my fingernail.

How does epson salt work then?
----------

Nope, take the pill and ice your finger. Ibuprofen cannot be absorbed through the skin, it has to be swallowed and absorbed through the intestines.  (+ info)

What muscle/nerve is severed that i cant feel portions of my finger?

Three days ago i cut the inside of my left pinky finger on the first bend with a seraded knife. 7 stitches were then applied from one ed to the other resulting in the clean healing of the wound, however due to the injury i cannot bend my finger past the last section of my pink and cannot feel the right half of my finger. Because of this i need to see a plastic surgeon, so id like to know the extent of the damage before i go.
----------

OK...first off I would not be able to tell you the extent of damage over the computer. If a nerve was damaged it would be the ulnar nerve. Specifically the radial distribution of the ulnar nerve of the 5th digit. When you say that you can't bend PAST the last section of pinky, I am assuming that you mean you can flex the last segment (the tip) of the pinky? If I am correct in understanding you, then the muscle you are having problems with is the flexor digitorum profundus of the 5th digit. However...this muscle is considered deep. It would be more likely that swelling would be preventing the movement. So...all of that being said, When you go to see the surgeon, they will be able to tell you the extent of the damage. That would be why you are going after all correct???? ...anyway, good luck!  (+ info)

Taping for index finger base knuckle injury?

I think I've sprained my right index finger at the base knuckle, playing football. It really hurts :( to move/bend. I've got practice tomorrow and could do with some advice of how to tape/protect it. I can only find stuff on google about middle or top knuckle injuries or breaks.

(I also posted in the american football category, wasn't sure where was most appropriate.)
----------

Well, the best thing to d is probably tell your coach you might have sprained it. It's never that smart to play while injured. also try not to put too much stress on the injured part. Also, how bad does the skin look? Is it a deep purple or brown? When you move that part do you feel like something is moving? Finally, get something cold (like a small bag of ice) to place on the area to reduce swelling and pain.

Since that's a part of your hand, I'd recommend going to the doctor if the pain is still as bad as it was when you injured it after a week. After all, it wouldn't do to let your hand stay damaged and have it heal incorrectly.  (+ info)

How can I heal my swollen Finger?

Okay my pinkie and finger on the right of that(the injury on my right hand) are swollen and it's a little different then regular. When I put my hand at my side or if my fingers are facing the floor they start hurting. And also when they hurt like it's heart in my finger and it stings. And if you don't know just don't post an answer cause this is serious to me.
----------

NONONO! Don't use ice. I had a thumb like that, I hit it hard with a drumstick, you have to go to the doctor, it might be infected. Don't worry just run your hand under water every few hours, that'll help. But , yeah see a doctor, he won't hurt you. He will give you a cream to put on every five hours. Wrap it. You can use little pads and fold them and use tape to hold it on your fingers.  (+ info)

My boyfriend cut his finger open really wide and had to get stitches?

my boyfriend works at a nursing home. he works as a house keeper. he was getting a mop out of the closet where the door is broken. he cut his finger open. had to get stitches. he has been off for the last week. His boss messed up his pay check. shouldnt he be getting payed for all of this? he filed a workers injury report. can we get any money out of this company?
----------

Yes, if he got hurt during working hours his medical bills can be paid for , as long as he notified his boss that he got injured.

A. Medical Benefits – all injured workers are entitled to any treatment which is “reasonably required to cure or relieve from the symptoms or effects of an industrial injury”.

B. Temporary Disability Benefits – if you are out of work due to an industrial injury you receive two-thirds of your average weekly earnings or maximum $490.00 per week.

C. Permanent Disability Benefits – if you have any loss or diminished ability to “compete in the open labor market, “at the end of reaching maximum improvement, you’ll also receive permanent disability payments.

This means your employer or your employer's insurance company must pay for reasonable and necessary care to cure or relieve your condition! This means you can use your head and seek the best possible care, you don't have to get second rate care and listen to their suggestions!  (+ info)

Do people ever self-mutilate because they think they deserve injuries?

Suppose a person is consistently inflicting injuries on himself (smashing fingers, hitting head against hard objects, touching live electrical circuits, etc) because he says he deserves them. Or he always drives without a seatbelt carelessly, hoping to be seriously injured in an accident because he says that he would deserve that. The reason is that he is unsuccessful in life -- never married, no kids, been unemployed for 4 years due to downsizing.

What would you think of a guy like that?
----------

No, they self-mutilate to externalize their emotional pain.  (+ info)
