How can I tell if my son has internal injuries?

My son rolled a quad. The handle bar jabbed him in the stomach (top left side of his belly button) can't put my finger on the spot because it hurts so much. Friend thinks its just bruised that there aren't organs there anyone have ideas I'm worried but trying not to over react
----------

swelling of the abdomen, coughing blood, peeing blood, blood in stool are signs of internal bleeding...but you really should be on your way to the emergency room as already stated. this is your kid. not you.  (+ info)

What is the best way to heal / alleviate a toddler's finger injury and the pain resulting from it?

Two of her finger nails are bleeding and colored gray. Is it serious enough that there need be a visit to the hospital? She's crying/screaming profusely.
It's purplish.
----------

Depends on how her fingers got hurt. If she squished 'em in a door then the gray color is probably blood under the nail. Kiss the boo-boo and sympathize as best you can while you take her to the sink and wash the fingers with soap and warm water. (This is the day you discover that pH balanced Phisohex isn't so overpriced after all. Next time you'll have it on hand.) Be gentle, but you may still need a 2nd set of hands to do this. Her fingers and nail beds should pink up as you clean the wounds. If they don't, or if you hear or feel something odd (esp. something "crunchy" or grating), off to the hospital after you finish. Otherwise, she should start to calm down as you work. When she's calm enough to respond to voice command, ask her to (carefully) move her hurt fingers. If she can't, it's off to the hospital with her. Apply some antibiotic ointment with pain killer (usu. lidocaine or benzocaine) in it and cover it with gauze or a large band-aid. Feed her some ibuprofen ("children's Tylenol" e.g.) for the pain.

Screaming usually isn't diagnostic in a toddler, but if she continues to scream and won't stop and won't be consoled, then take that as a sign that something is wrong that you can't see, and take her to the hospital. You'll probably want to get an x-ray of her hand in the next day or two anyway to rule out a broken finger, but unless the pain won't remit or there are signs that blood flow to her fingers is impaired (cold, purple), it's best to avoid a long wait in the ER if possible.

Anyone an expert on finger injuries?

I was at color guard practice yesterday. I'm new on weapon line and I was tossing a quad on rifle. It hit my finger next to my pinky on my right hand. It like kinda bent it back and It hurt soo bad. I quickly put my cold water bottle on it but it was very painful! It started swelling a few short minutes after wards. Now I have a splint on my finger and I ice it regularly. It's extremely fat! I also see redness by one of my knuckles, I believe it's blood. I must've broke a blood vessel or something. It's bruised also. I know it can't be broken cause I can slightly move it. I can move it backwards, but I can only move it forwards to a certain point and I cannot clench my fist. /: Is my finger jammed? Fractured? Help?!
----------

It honestly sounds like a sprain or dislocation. if its a dislocation, start getting some Tylenol in you, because those hurt like hell.

If the pain doesn't start to decrease by tomorrow, get to the doc, or school nurse, or whomever and have them look at it. Chances are they'll be able to feel your finger and wiggle it a bit and see whats wrong, sometimes they'll take an X-ray just for confirmation.  (+ info)

What are some treatment methods i may apply to a basketball-related index-finger injury?

-i hurt it when a basketball rammed my right index finger from the tip, it's been swollen for 3 weeks; in the meantime, i've already seen an acupuncturist, not really helping; i also saw the doctors and they prescribed something called "pennsaid" to relieve the swelling. but it still hurts a lot and does not seem to get better, any help?
----------

If it has been swollen for three weeks, there's a really good chance that it is broken. The best thing to do is immobilize it as best you can by taping your index finger to your middle finger. There's also an underlying chance that there is an infection as well; that can account for the swelling. Continue taking the prescribed medicine, and ice it as well. If you don't see signs of improvement in the next few days, I would suggest visiting the doctor again.  (+ info)

what could cause a finger to be swollen without injury?

How do finger nails heal?

Today my dog accidentily partially ripped my nail off of the nailbed, as well as cracked the nail about a millimeter or two down from the tip. At first my entire hand went numb, then just my finger hurt REALLY bad, now the entire nail hurts, more at the bed of the nail than where it actually cracked.

Would an "injury" like this heal with the nail coming off like some nail injuries do? I've never really hurt my... nail... before. Will it just stay cracked until it grows out?
----------

The crack in the nail won't grow back together if that is what you mean, but it will eventually look normal. But it will probably take a while to heal completely. I would also make sure it is cleaned and disinfected really well.  (+ info)

How much would it cost privately to correct a broken finger?

Shut my tip of finger in door when I was pregnant, was told that it was a tendon injury and given a splint. After I had my child was given an xray and was told it was it fact broken. Is now bent at the tip. Have been back to hospital and they won't do anything with it as I can use finger ok and would only be for comestic reasons to fix it. Can this be fixed though (privatly) and how much would this cost?

How long should the distal joint on my finger be swollen for?

When playing football I got hit right in the tip of my left ring finger and the distal joint is still swollen and is slightly painful when forcefully holding a football or hockey stick. The injury first happened a week and a half ago. It is still swollen. What's your guess?
----------

well u got to give it time to heal,ur just aggravating it,but i love football also-so i would tape it tightly but not to cut off circulation-it will keep it immobile and give it a chance to heal.also ice it often  (+ info)

My mum has cellulitis and has developed a septic index finger with no injury about the size of a thumb print ?

My mum has also vomited a lot recently and gone off her food but seems ok in herself, she also has lymphodoema in her legs could the septic index finger be lack of blood supply as i would expect it to go black. She has no injury or abraision to the skin atall please help she hates doctors. she has been on fluoxicillin antibiotics recently could these have caused a septic finger?
----------

Dave, there are pages of side effects caused by drugs and if you combine them. There seems to be lots of things going on with your mom right now and I don't think anyone here is going to be much help. Try talking her into seeing a doctor. If she says "no" at first try "please mom, I love you and I'm scared".  (+ info)
