How would you treat these injuries yourself if you didn't have medical training?

How would you Treat and Permanently Fix these injuries if for whatever reason you didn't seek medical help.
1. Gunshot wound to Leg/Arm
2. Stab wound to Leg/Arm
3. Broken Leg/Arm
4. Broken Finger
5. Burnt Arm/Leg from Fire
----------

Common sense. If it's bleeding, stop the bleeding. If it's broken, break it back into place.

A gunshot can't really be "fixed" without trained medical help since they'd have to not only extract the bullet if it didn't go all the way through, but give you antibiotics to fight off bacteria building up in your exposed wound.

Breaks maybe, gunshots and stab wounds, not likely?  (+ info)

What happens in the doctors office if you dislocate your finger?

im writing a paper for human biology about muscle injuries. It supposed to be realistic, so i would like lots of details. what im most concerned about is the procedures and questions the doctors will put you through. x-rays? casts? that kinda thing. OH, and the patient is a 5 year old boy. how should the doctor react to him? personal experiences are very welcome!
----------

I broke my fingers when I was a child - twice in two separate incidents during gym. They ice it, they xray, and wrap it up in a split - which is metal on one side and cushy foam on the other. 1st they move the finger around - or ask if you can move it around at all, causing pain, making sure the joint works and there's not clicking or something. Some doctors have your parents hold you down for this or use a nurse. Or they look you in the eye and sweat talk you and pop! Then tell you to "sleep" with your arm over your head - yeah thanks doc - I'm about ready to pass out right now just thinking about it.

"Other treatments for a finger sprain include:
Ice the injured finger
Elevate if there is swelling
Take an anti-inflammatory medication
Gently move the finger to prevent stiffening"  (+ info)

How do I do finger exercises?

How do I do finger exercises so when I punch my punching bag my fingers wont feel pain/get injuries.
----------

make a proper fist, hit with first two knuckles, hit lighter until you can do so properly without hurting anything. If you are punching a heavy bag , make sure you wrap or have proper gloves. don't stick your thumb out (or wrap it inside), close your fist pretty tightly, keep your wrist straight. I usually squeeze my fingers into an open fist (like a half fist) a few times before I put my gloves on , but that's just to crack my knuckles if they need it :)
to add power use your shoulder and finally hips, but if you are worrying about hurting your fingers, I wouldn't do that yet.  (+ info)

Middle finger of left hand numb for almost two weeks?

I have had numbness in my middle finger on my left hand for almost ten days now. I have not had any injuries but I do work with my hands everyday. Its numb from the middle knuckle down to the finger tip and only seems to be numb on the top side of my finger not on the palm side.
----------

See your health care provider as soon as possible. Vitamin B12 supplementation quickly resolved the numbness. Peripheral neuropathy can have a number of causes. Probably the most common is mechanical pressure on a nerve. Under compression, the first nerve fibers to lose function are the ones that conduct sensation. As the sensory fibers"go to sleep," the first signal perceived is the familiar "pins-and-needles" tingling sensation. And good luck.  (+ info)

Why has the tip of my right index finger been numb for several weeks?

No recent injuries, no pain, nothing crazy. It was numb on & off for a few days, & then it just went completely numb & hasn't gone back to normal in at least 3 weeks. Any ideas?
----------

i would go to a doctor. It could simply be poor blood circulation but at least they would be able to help you reverse it.  (+ info)

What is my injury called? I injured my finger opening an apple cider with a can opener?

After I cut myself with a can opener, I put a rubbing alcohol where the bleeding is from which is on my knuckle. I waited a month and the pain is still there. I will like whenever I move my finger, on a hot day, or in general, it starts hurting like my finger is burning or something, and it becomes all red. Is this nerve related.? Whats the treatment, is the injury permanamt, and do you know what the condition is called?
----------

You may have gotten an infection from the metal. You may need to treat it with an over the counter ointment like Neosporin and keep it clean and dry with a bandage and change. You may also need to open it up and drain any of the infection that might be in there.  (+ info)

I have a pain in my right hand that affects my little finger and that side of the wrist?

The pain affects the right side of my wrist and little finger. I have had 3 major injuries(getting hand caught between doors and a roof hatch slammed down on it) I don't think it's CTS because that affects the middle fingers(so I've read)
----------

The Median nerve is affected in carpal tunnel syndrome. It affects primarily the thumb through middle finger. The Ulnar nerve is on the lateral side (outside) of the wrist and affects primarily the little finger and the ring finger. There is some overlap, but not much. by your description, you have an ulnar nerve syndrome. The injury could be anywhere from the elbow (the "funny bone") to the wrist. That's what Brett Farvre had when he hit his elbow. You say you hit your wrist.

Either CTS or an ulnar nerve syndrome at the wrist should respond to a wrist splint and rest. You can also take Thiamine (B1), Pyridoxine (B6) and Cyanocobalamine (B12). These vitamins are essential for good nerve health. They can be obtained at any drug store in standard doses.  (+ info)

The skin between my thumb and index finger is swollen?

What could cause this? I haven't sustained any injuries to my hand or this area that I know of to have caused it to swell. There is no pain. Is just looks weird. I just happened to notice it after straightening my hair and it was taking some effort to hold up the straightener.
I lift toddlers daily could that have caused any strain?
----------

It could be some form of repetitive strain injury. Or it could be some inflammation in the thumb joint. It could be arthritis.
