17 and wanting my fibroadenoma removing?

It worries me when I feel it, even though I know it's ok
It is also right where the under-wire of my bra is, and it pushes against it causing discomfort and sometimes a stabbing pain
How do I go about getting it removed? Do I go to my doctor and talk to him about it or do I call up the breast clinic?
And what is the process of the removal?
----------

If you have health insurance call them first and see if you need a referral to the breast clinic. If it doesn't cause you discomfort then you can leave it alone but if you are having pain from it being where it is, it ought to be removed. There's no reason for you to suffer discomfort and pain when it can be dealt with fairly easily.

The procedure to remove it is usually an outpatient procedure unless you have some other health issue that would make it necessary for you to spend overnight in the hospital (your doctor can tell you the details of the procedure). In general, you'll be anesthetized and while you are asleep the doctor will make an incision, remove the fibroadenoma, and then either stitch the incision closed or close it with surgical adhesive and butterfly strips then cover it with a dressing.

Good luck and I hope that your issue can be resolved soon and it doesn't reoccur.  (+ info)

Fibroadenoma Removal Questions?

I am 15 years old and just found out that i need to have a fibroadenoma removed from my right breast. I am pretty concerned because i have never had any type of surgery before so if anybody has any experience or advice i would appreciate it. I also need to know if it will leave a scar or some type of dent? It is on the top of my breasts and i like to wear cute shirts where a scar there would be visible.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Is fibroadenoma a type of breast cancer?

What is fibroadenoma
----------

Fibroadenoma is a lump in the breast. It is painless, can be moved around and normally occurs in adolescent girls. It could be related to hormonal imbalances, PCOS or irregular periods. I suggest you take the opinion of a surgeon at the earliest.  (+ info)

what is a fibroadenoma, what you should do if you have them and how to lessen yourself of not getting it?

I had 4 of them in my breast!! The doctor removed them, 3 little lumps a time and 1 years later. And after lab analysis they turned out to be fibroadenomas. Since then I occasionally have had lumps but they go away with medication. They're not malignant, but may grow too big and do harm. To avoid them I don't know what to do. Try and check yahoo! health, HTH!  (+ info)

will a fibroadenoma grow?

I'm 17 and I believe I have a Fibroadenoma about the size of a thumb tip, how likely is it to grow in size?
----------

Fibroadenomas are benign breast tumors commonly found in young women. They are composed of glandular and fibrous (containing fibers) tissues.
A study was done at the University of British Columbia on fibroadenomas on over 1000 patients. 194 masses showed an increase in volume and the data showed that 90-95% change in volume per month were used to determine acceptable changes in dimensions The volume growth rate can be as much as 16% per month"
Some masses will go away during periods while others remain. Fibroadenoma is one those that remain. So if it does continue to grow at 16% each month, they can be removed, They are not cancer though. Even though fibroadenomas happen to women even at a very young age of 13, this is not a precursor to breast cancer. So why do you believe you have one. Does it move? slide? Have you been to the Dr yet for this? If not, go and I wish you luck.  (+ info)

Fibroadenoma: What should I do?

I have multiple fibroadenoma's in both of my breasts and am only 16 years old, should I be worried, I know that they arn't cancerous but since I'm younger, do you think they may get larger? Is the removal of them cause any scarring? If you have any experience, please tell me. Thank you.
----------

if you dont have no medical problems.. then get them removed from your breasts... they grow larger.. i was 14 and had one in my left breast and it grew bigger by time i was 15, and it grew up to about 1 pound or better, and so u should get that removed ASAP but u dont worry about getting a scar becuase they have creams and ointments that can clear up scars.  (+ info)

Cryoablation (freezing) of breast fibroadenoma?

Does anyone know anything about cryoablation in treating breast fibroadenoma's? Anyone had it done & does it work? Is it safe?
----------

I had considered it at one point. I think that it is a very good and safe proceedure to have for fibroadenomas. The fibroadenomas are benign and since that is the case, they can be safely frozen and then desentegrated without the scars of regular surgery.
Here's some information...The most common application of cryoablation is to ablate solid tumors found in the lung, liver, breast, kidney and prostate gland. The use in prostate and renal cryoablation are the most common. Although sometimes applied through laparoscopic or open surgical approaches, most often cryoablation is performed percutaneously (through the skin and into the target tissue containing the tumor.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryoablation

The Visica procedure uses cold therapy (cryoablation) to destroy the fibroadenoma through an incision so small that it only needs a small adhesive bandage and no stitches afterward.http://www.breast-center.com/tbc-treatments.htm

I would think this was the best way to go as a woman if I needed to do it this way without scarring and overnight hospital stay I would.  (+ info)

Fibroadenoma

Fibroadenomas are benign tumors made up of both glandular breast tissue and stromal (fibroconnective) tissue. They are most common in young women in their twenties and thirties, but they may occur at any age. Some fibroadenomas are too small to feel and can be seen only under the microscope, but some are several inches across. They tend to be round and have borders that are distinct from the surrounding breast tissue, so they often feel like a marble within the breast. Some women have only one fibroadenoma, but others may have several. Fibroadenoma can be easily diagnosed by fine needle aspiration or needle core biopsy.

Many doctors recommend removing fibroadenomas, especially if they continue to grow or if they change the shape of the breast. Sometimes (especially in middle aged or elderly women) these tumors will stop growing or even shrink on their own, without any treatment. In this case, as long as the doctors are certain the masses are really fibroadenomas and not breast cancer, surgery to remove them may not be needed. This approach is useful for women with many fibroadenomas that are not growing. In such cases, removing them all might mean removing a lot of nearby normal breast tissue, causing scarring that would change the shape and texture of the breast. This could also make future physical examination and mammograms harder to interpret. But, it is important for women who do not have fibroadenomas removed to have a breast physical exam at regular intervals to make sure the mass is not continuing to grow. Sometimes one or more new fibroadenomas will grow after one is removed. This simply means that another fibroadenoma has formed and not that the old one has come back.  (+ info)
