With only one fallopian tube, does that mean that I a lesser chance of getting pregnant?

I had an ectopic pregnancy and they had to take my left fallopian tube because it was severely damaged. Does that mean my chances of getting pregnant lessened?
----------

I think so.
The egg is released from one ovary one month, and the next month's egg is released from the other.
Good luck!  (+ info)

How easy or difficult is to concieve with only one fallopian tube?

I recently had laporascopic surgery, the doctor said both of my fallopian tubes were blocked but he was able to unblock one of them, according to him I still have a good chance of getting pregnant,,,so my husband and I have decided to start trying and have been unsuccesful for the past two months,,,,have you or anyone you know gotten pregnant with one fallopian tube? if so please share any advice on what helped and how long it took to conceive.
----------

I had an ectopic pregnancy last year (where the embryo implanted in the fallopian tube). I had surgery to remove the pregnancy, but was able to keep my tube. I later found out through an HSG that tube is completely blocked. Only having one "good" tube can make it a little more difficult to conceive, but it is definitely still possible. Women do it all the time. Luckily, our bodies are surprisingly adaptable.

There is also evidence to show that even when you ovulate from the "bad" side (from the ovary next to the blocked tube) it is possible for the "good" tube to still pick up the egg and have it be fertilized there. I'm pretty sure this is what happened with my 2nd pregnancy as I felt ovulation pain on the "bad" side, but still got pregnant that month. They say that even with everything working perfectly and timing it all just right, you still have only about a 25% chance of getting pregnant each month, so just relax and give yourself some time before worrying yourself more. Good luck and **baby dust** to you!  (+ info)

Can I still get pregnant with one fallopian tube?

Had a HSG test done yesterday and it shows two ovaries ,but only one fallopian tube . (Which has no blockage) Will I still be able to get pregnant?
----------

you will have half the chance. ovulation happens each month from alternating sides, so about every other month you have that chance. good luck  (+ info)

How can sperm live in other parts of the vagina other then the fallopian tube and be safe?

I asked this question someone came around and said its not true... yes I know its not ONLY the fallopian tube... But main question is How can they even survive pass a day in the other parts when all the other parts of the Vagina is all attacking sperm...

Seen this from "The Great Sperm Race".
----------

Things in the vagina aren't "attacking" them, but the acidity and such in the environment causes many of them to die off. This is one of nature's may mysteries. I'd assume some of the seminal fluid stays with the sperm and those that are able to continue on survive over 24 hours until they meet the egg or don't, then die and that's it. I'm sure you can find more information on this or ask a doctor, but if I'm not mistaken, it's generally the seminal fluid that helps them survive the most. Sorry, I couldn't be of more help. Hope this helps.  (+ info)

Any of you ladies had an ectopic pregnancy, lost a fallopian tube, and been able to have another child?

Please tell me what happened. I lost a fallopian tube due to an ectopic pregnancy, and then got pregnant again only to have a miscarriage. I'm going through treatment right now, ultrasounds, labs works etc. Stressed and scared. I want to know some success stories after such a nightmare. Is this all worth it?
----------

Hello,

My daughter is a success story. When I was young and having my children I had several miscarriages. I did manage to carry two boys to full term. One in 1979 and the other in 1985.

After I had my son in 1985 I became pregnant again but began experiencing severe pain in my right side. I had to be rushed to the hospital and they did an ultra sound and said that I had an ectopic pregnancy. (I always called it a tubal pregnancy). I had to have emergency surgery to remove my tube and of course, the baby.

I never conceived again until 1988 (and I always got pregnant very easily, I just couldn't carry them). But I prayed and I prayed for three years, because I wanted a little girl so bad. And in 1988 I became pregnant again, I had no problems and my little girl was born on Dec. 2. She will be 19 this year and I thank God every day for her. And after I had her, I never became pregnant again even though I've never took any kind of birth control.

So don't give up hope because as long as you have one tube, you can have a baby. Good luck.  (+ info)

My mom has a swollen fallopian tube and now has a very high fever, she is in the hospital, please help?

Hello, my mother is very sick, the doctor says she has a swollen fallopian tube and now she also has a fever of 104. She is 49 years old. I want to know what causes the fallopian tube to swell and what the treatment is for this and anything else related to this condition, please help, thanks.
I really don't think a pregnancy is possible, she hasn't been sexually active in more than 20 years. I also believe the doctor confirmed there was not a fetus in the tube.
----------

I found this information for you (it was at an infertility treatment website, so ignore the IVF stuff):

Swollen fallopian tubes are called hydrosalpinges. This indicates that the tubes have been severely damaged, and are likely not functional. This can be confirmed by laparoscopy. If they are truly swollen, the best treatment is their removal during laparoscopy followed by IVF. The fluid in the tubes is toxic to both embryos and sperm, and for this reason, requires removal once the decision to proceed with IVF is made.

Hope she feels better soon!  (+ info)
