who does an eye injury occur to most?

& Can someone give me a scenario of someone getting an embedded particle in their eye, nothing big. please! and thank you!
----------

Usually Plumbers! They go to peoples homes to service the system and nine times out of ten get something in their eye.
Had a Plumber here last year and he often frequents a Ophthalmologist because something is in his eye. He reeled off the items, dust, fiberglass and then filings, the latter being the worse. The reason why he was telling me, because seeing the Ophthalmologist with Health Insurance is more expensive than if he pays him Cash!
The dust arrives usually when he is up in a person attic plumbing in a new shower or re-routing pipework. The filing, pieces of metal occurs when he is servicing a Boiler and needs to replace certain items. Getting the old item off is hardest and tends to cause small slips of metal to fly. Some get embedded in his hands, others fly into his eyes. I did ask about Safety Glasses, but either he forgets to wear them, or finds them a pain to wear.  (+ info)

Why would everything look darker out of one eye?

For a dark cast over my left eye but now its like when I drive Its like having a cover over my left eye that I don't see anything out of it. I had an accident in May I flipped a Vehicle my seat belt broke and I landed in the back of the one ton van when I woke up. I had a head injury from the accident. But I didn't think it would bother my eyes. But when lite hits it , gets real cloudy and sometimes just hurts. I don't Understand Why?
----------

Obviously you need to see an ophthalmologist.
Head trauma certainly can affect the eyes. Things like retinal tear/detachment and optic nerve contusion often happen after this kind of trauma. Because of the delay of 4 months, a retinal tear and slow detachment is a possibility. Don't delay. The sooner you get an answer and a treatment, the better off you will be.  (+ info)

What to do when you get eye injury do to a laser scanner? ?

If you have trouble seeing after the reflection hits your eye?
----------

Go see an eye doctor immediately. If you can't do that, go to the hospital. If you truly have laser eye damage, immediate attention is necessary.

However, there probably was not any damage. If you have trouble seeing the same way you do after looking into a flashlight, in that there's an image of the light that lasts for several seconds, up to a minute, then there is no damage and you are fine. If you still have problems seeing after several minutes (let's say 15), then you should go see a doctor. However, lasers scanners are not powerful enough to do eye damage unless you stare into them for several seconds. I would be shocked if you actual damaged your eye with a laser scanner.

Now that it's 4 hours later, if you still have problems seeing, then you should have seen a doctor 3 hours ago.  (+ info)

Why dose it feel like someone punched me in the eye?

Ok I woke up this morning and my right eye feels like someone punched it! There is no bruising and as far as I know I have had no injury to my eye . But it is slightly swollen and it feels like it bruised ! It hurts every time I blink! And it hurts to the touch but not red or crusty or runny nothing like that.Anybody know why and will it go away. It is really bothering me!
----------

If the pain and swelling to your eye includes the eyebrow area, then this might be sinus related, but if the pain is to the eyelid then it may be a stye. In some cases it could be an insect bite.

For sinus pressure there are many over the counter medications that would help.
If it is a stye, apply warm water on a washcloth for 10-15 minutes 4-5 times a day. This usually helps to open it up.  (+ info)

My son accidentally hit my eye a couple nights ago and scratched the cornea. Should I see a doc?

I dealt with the pain (excrutiating, to say the least), because my family doc waited until 4:45 on Friday afternoon to call me back and say they couldn't call in a prescription for the numbing eye drops I requested, because an eye injury was not something to treat over the phone. Anyway, the pain is pretty much gone now, but I'd rather not go to a doc if I don't have to. I know eyesight is not something to mess with, but if it feels much better, is it safe to assume there's no real damage done?
----------

Corneal abrasions will heal in 24 to 36 hours. You can't use numbing eye drops with an abrasion because they impair healing. Had you seen an eye doctor they would have put a bandage contact lens on the eye to deal with the pain and provided antibiotic drops. If the pain is gone and vision is good, you likely don't need to see a doctor.

There is a risk of recurrent erosion with this type of injury. If the eye starts to hurt again, see an eye doc ASAP, you will need special instruction in avoiding future erosions.  (+ info)

How does the eye react to being burnt?

When your eye is introduced to a flame, or something hot, like a cigarette end or a piece of heated metal, what happens to it? If the injury is sustained to the iris will it result in blindness? Before anyone asumes anything, no, i am not thinking of doing this to myself--i enjoy being able to see very much. I'm asking out of curiosity
----------

Well, let's replace the word "eye" with the word "skin"... "When your skin is introduced to a flame, or something hot, like a cigarette end or a piece of heated metal, what happens to it?"
Obvious answer -- it burns! The top layer of your cornea (the front clear "window" of your eye) is equivalent to skin, except the cells are organized very neatly to keep it clear. It will burn, and if the burn is deep or extensive, it will scar. Scarring means that the clear window, which lets light into the eye, is no longer clear, so light won't get in properly, so yes, you can become blind from a burn. Now, small things -- like a tiny flake of hot metal from welding -- will leave small scars; you'll find lots of welders who don't use safety glasses have a couple scars from hot pieces of metal that go flying into their eyes. They aren't blind, but if you look at their eyes under the microscope you can see little white spots of scarring.
With a skin burn, if it's really bad you get a skin graft (like a transplant from one area of your body to another). With the eye, if you have really bad scarring, the only 'fix' is to have a corneal graft/transplant.  (+ info)

how do you get rid of a black eye caused by a bar fight asap?

I got into a bar fight because I was protecting my cousin from some local gangbangers. I got hit in the eye one time from that party of dudes and now I looke funny that I feel so depressed that I missed work on Monday. This happened Saturday night. The inside of my eye is red and the outside is purple. What remedy is there or practice that will eliminate this injury as soon as possible?
----------

There's not much you can do other than putting a cold compress on it to reduce the swelling.  (+ info)

Neck injury caused eye swelling and severe headache?

While my brother was playing basketball he got hit in the neck by someones elbow. This happened a few days ago. He has swelling in one eye and severe neck pain. I am trying to get him to go to a doctor but so far he wont. I am afraid this could be something serious. I would like a response from someone with a medical background.

How bad is the injury, if you get poked in the eye slightly?

I am just curious, to hear the answer. I never experienced this injury before, but I've heard other people have.
----------

It depends what you get poked with, how hard, and where. I took a thumb-nail in the eye many years ago early one summer in a swimming pool in Toronto. It did not puncture the eyeball, but it peeled back part of the white area. I received a stitch in the eyeball, (that was an experience in itself) and had to wear a patch, and stay out of the water for the whole summer. Altogether, it was a painful, frightening, and uncomfortable experience.  (+ info)
