How do I know if my eye injury is severe enough to see a doctor?

It was in the woods, and a branch popped back and hit my eye. It bled for a while, but I could still see through it.

Now it is very red and my sight is slightly blurry.
----------

You should have gone to the emergency room right away. If there is blood or constant running of water (not tears) from the eye, your eye should be looked at by a doctor.

You should go to be safe instead of waking up sorry in the morning.  (+ info)

injuries, eye, eyeliner?

Have you ever poked your eye on accident with a mascara wand or eyeliner pencil? Do they make mascara where the wand bristles are soft so you dont hurt your eye if you accidentally poke it?

What could cause a black eye without any injury?

The other evening after I got home from shopping my kids noticed that I had a black eye. It was blue but not swollen or sore. It would not wash away either. I also noticed a bluish discoloration at both sides of my mouth. By morning it was gone. Could it be poor circulation or something else? This has never happened before. I also take blood pressure medication and lovastatin.
----------

I'm not sure. Could be due to side effect of lovastatin, causing Rhabdomyolysis.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lovastatin#Side_effects

Rhabdomyolysis is the rapid breakdown (lysis) of skeletal muscle (rhabdomyo) due to injury to muscle tissue. The muscle damage may be caused by physical (e.g., crush injury), chemical, or biological factors.

OR

could be Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura
Often idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura is asymptomatic, however a very low platelet count can lead to visible symptoms, such as purpura (bruises), or more seriously, bleeding diathesis. Disease states such as insufficient or malfunctioning platelets, other coagulation deficiencies, or vascular disorders, such as venous blockage associated with severe allergies can lead to the formation of bruises in situations in which they would not normally occur and with only minimal trauma.

How long does it usually take for an eye injury to heal?

I injured my eye about a month ago and things are still a little blurry, but my vision keeps getting better.
I injured my eye about a month ago and things are still a little blurry, but my vision keeps getting better. Somebody elbowed me in the eye while I was playing basketball. It was extremely painful for a couple of days, and I couldn't open my eye for about five days.
----------

It depends on your injury. I scratched my cornea about 2 yrs ago. I couldn't see anything for two weeks. About two months after the accident, has to go back to the eye doctor because it affected my vision. Now I don't have perfect 20/20 vision anymore. :(
Still after all this time, I can rub my eye or something and it irritates the nerves and my eye waters up and gets all red. Still sensitive.

But again, it depends on your injury. If you went to the doctor, ask him.  (+ info)

Blood Eye Injuries......?

i had a bruise underneath my eye
thank goodness it didn't hit me there
now the right side of my eye isn't bleeding, but it looks like blood i dont know what to do. I have read online that injures just like mine just need time to heal. any suggestions?
----------

It is just like a bruise on the skin, only the skin of the eye is clear. It will go away with time. You should see an Ophthalmologist though if you have severe pain or if you lose vision.  (+ info)

What is the name for this specific eye injury?

When someone gets some kind of injury to their eye where the blood like, leaks into their eye or something.. making the iris appear completely black. Vision isn't necessarily badly impaired, just the appearance of your eye. Or something. Sorry, I'm not being very helpful. but does anyone know what it's called?
----------

You may be referring to an iris hemorrhage, which is extremely uncommon. A more common condition is called a conjunctival hemorrhage, where the "white" of the eye (the sclera) appears to be completely red.

Either or, I hoped this helped!  (+ info)

major eye injuries.......?

hi there,

my brother got attacked a few nights ago and the guys that did it, punched him in the eye with somethin as it caused his pupil to burst/blown and his retina to tear. he is going to have surgery to correct the tear in the retina but the docs have said they cant do anything about the burst pupil.

my brother is quite active, he loves swimmin and he was a member of the athletics club. So i wanted to know what activities can he or cant he do? does anyone know, will he be able to drive. At the moment he cant see anything out of his eye. its just his right eye, his left eye is fine.

thanks
----------

A member of my family is blind in one eye (so is Gordon Brown Prime Minister). He will be able to drive and do anything he did before. The surgeons will tell him when he will be safe to drive. Depends on recovery. Hope he is going to claim from the Criminal Injuries Board for compensation.  (+ info)

he should be fine to drive a car if he loses the site in his eye! but will require his doctors /or ophthalmologist to say so he would also be required to inform his insurance company and the dvla if living in the u/k as for your other questions they should be directed to the doctors or surgeons who im sure will answer your questions if you are with your brother at the time of asking  (+ info)

Can anyone suggest activities for someone on bed rest for eye injury?

My fiance is on total bed rest for an eye injury. He is not allowed to watch television, read, use a computer, or use his eyes in almost any way. They basically want him to lie there with his eyes closed and his head elevated at least until Monday. He can only get up to go the bathroom. He is pretty drugged up and sleeps a lot, but there are periods that he is awake and bored.

What activities can he do? I thought listening to a podcast or something like that. Any more suggestions?

Thanks!
----------

Tell him a story <3
Or talk with him alot.
or how about board games.
