What could be the explanation why my left eye's vision is more blurred than my right?

I did not have any eye injuries in the past. One day, I suddenly noticed that my when I cover my right eye, my vision is blurred. When both eyes are opened or only the right eye is opened, everything seems to be fine.

You are probably just needing a correction for that eye...you will have to go get an eye exam.

It isn't uncommon to need a correction in just one eye, although maybe both do, your right eye seems ok, maybe just because it is better than the left.  (+ info)

Fire Eaters Eye Injuries

Hi do fire eaters suffer from corneal burns or any other eye burns or injuries thank you
----------

Hi Alan. I have a freind that is a magician and does fire tricks including eating fire and other fire tricks close to his eyes. He has no eye trouble at all as he is taught very safe fire handling practices for his performances. As with any dangerous occupation, I am sure that there have been accidents and injuries, but the only person I know is quite finel. LORI O^O  (+ info)

Do you wear adequate eye protection while fishing?

A fish hook in the eye is one of the most common 'on-the-water' injuries. Just imagine how painful that could be.

I was just hole-checking to make sure you good people practice preventative measures.
It seems as if you all have got the point!
If you enjoy stereo-vision you will protect those peepers while fishing with yourself or others.
I enjoyed reading your answers and thank you all.

Eric,

Put very simply, I never fish without eye protection. While it is not a common thing to have a hook hit the eye, when it does the results are horrifying. Let's face it, usually you are out in the middle of a lake or in a river and an emergency room is hours away. The eyes are two of the most precious things we have. Why risk loosing an eye by not wearing eye protection? There are other hazards out there as well, like branches of trees that whip back into your face, or bugs being blown by a heavy wind.

Another very good reason to wear eye protection is to have polarized glasses. Without them you seldom see the fish, the glare is too great off the water, and the suns UV rays are damaging your eyes.

Those are some good reasons to always wear eye protection. At the minimum just a plain standard set of sun glasses. I prefer to wear the Cocoon brand sun glasses. They give you maximum protection from the sun and stray hooks, branches and bugs.

To quote an old but very true cliché: "It is far better to be safe than sorry."

Eye injuries question?

If an eye gets injured can it heal itself. Also if you get an eye injury but you can still see through that eye no problem, does that mean it'll heal itself?
----------

It depends on the injury. Any injury should be checked at the hospital or by your optician. Just to be sure it can heal without any treatment.

A superficial scratch can heal very quickly, just a few hours. But a deeper scratch could scar so should be checked just in case.

You eyes are precious- treat them with respect ;)  (+ info)

How much compensation from criminal injuries will i recieve for loosing my eye sight in one eye.?

I got bottled in the face in a night club in liverpool. It was not my fault, i was on leave from the army and was a little bit drunk and bumped into someone and he has just hit me for nothing and then hit me with a bottle across the eye and face. I then got kicked out of the club and me and a friend had to walk to the hospital. I had about 10 stiches on me head and face leaving small scars. I had 3 operation on my eye mainly to save it so i didn't have to get a arifificual one. They have saved it but it always looks tired and is completely blind! I told the police and they went to club but cudent see nothing on the security cameras beucase the club was so dark, and the bouncers never logged nothing in their book of the incodent. No one has been arrested for this. I was off work for 6 month (fortunattly paid) I just want to know if any one has claimed criminal injuries money for an attack like this before and know roughly how much i will recieve and how long it will take?

Here in the U.S., the club owner also assumes some liability. That would involve a legal action and his insurance company.

I have no idea of time frames or amounts awarded there.  (+ info)

What happens to your depth perception after an eye injury?

I am working on a novel(la?) and my character suffered a knife wound to the side of his head. It goes from his left eyebrow to just under his eye, eye included. I was wondering what his sight would be like after that and how bad his coordination would be. Any links to credible websites and/or good information would be appreciated. I did Google this first and didn't find anything I thought I could use. Thanks.

Depth/dimension perception almost always decreases or disappears after an eye injury.  (+ info)

Does a brain injury on the left side cause pupil changes in the right eye?

I read somewhere that the nerves cross over at the region below the eyes. So, when there is a stroke or injury on the left side of the brain, the right side of the body will be affected - but the left eye will have changes because the pathways cross over below the eye. And, vice-versa for the other side. Is this true?
----------

This is true - the nerves cross over very close to the eyes, so most strokes on the right hemisphere of the brain will result in symptoms occurring on the left side of the body.  (+ info)
