How soon do you know what they find on a diagnostic mammogram?

I saw my doctor because of a knot under my arm. She felt and said there were actually three swollen nodes. She then exmamined my left breast and found a mass in it so she is sending me for a diagnostic mammogram. I was under the impression that it may include getting an ultrasound also and that I would know if they confirmed the presence of a mass at that time. She has already scheduled my appointment for a biopsy a week later.
----------

While they may be able to tell from the mammogram and/or ultrasound, the technician is not qualified to diagnose and break that news. The results will be sent to your Dr. The technician will be able to give you an estimate of when the results will get to your Dr, generally within 48 hours.
A biopsy would be the next step.  (+ info)

what is the differnce between an ultrasound technician and a diagnostic medical sonographer?

ive been wanting to do something in the medical field for a while now, and i really want to do something with the ultrasound machines. i read online that a diagnostic medical sonographer only does the ultrasounds and a physician does the actual talking with the patient and tells them what's going on with their bodies. i want to be the one who does the ultrasound AND tells the patient the good and/or bad news. is that what a ultrasound technician does or would i have to get a degree in ultrasound technology and one to become a physician. or am i totally wrong?
----------

You cannot diagnose a patient, unless you are a doctor. A radiologist is a medical doctor who will interpert the ultrasound (and x-rays and MRI and CT scans etc) images, that are taken by a sonographer (aka ultrasonographer aka ultrasound technologist). The radiologist then issues an imaging report to the patient's referring physician. So you are correct, in a way. But, any physician can buy themselves an ultrasound machine and scan their patients theirselves....although I think it is a bad idea, actually. Sonographers and radiologist spend years learning ultrasounds, and it takes that amount of time to become sufficient.  (+ info)

Who makes the best study materials for the new A+ certification?

I'd like to get my A+ certification and know that the test recently changed. Who makes the best study guides/materials for the newest test?

Thanks!
----------

Not exactly the right category for this question. However, A+ certification is nearly a joke. Any time I start talking to a new tech and he's all excited about being A+ certified I know he doesn't know anything. Don't overstress the A+ certified if you're applying for a job.

1st link has some online stuff you can check--the A+ training looks worthwhile.
2nd one has free A+ Networks training
3rd one has free study guide
4th one has a bunch of free exam resources.

Really if you covered everything these 4 sites offer for free you should ace the test.  (+ info)

What materials do you get for hair dressing in college?

I'm going to college for hair dressing, and I wanted to know what materials you get when you buy them from the school?
----------

A Cosmetology Book, a Work book, a huge bag to put all your stuff in. Doll head, two heads of hair. A full rack of hair setting rollers. metal clips, plastic clips. Perming rollers, papers. Drape. Scissors, Straight razor. Combs and brushes. Curling Iron. Smocks.

I'm not sure if there's more, I went to Beauty School for Cosmetology 5 years ago. Never made it a career. I didn't even take State Board. My school sucked. but I did have a blast in school, and made a lot of cool friends.  (+ info)

Discussion: What are the relevant social, ethical, legal and economic effects of therapeutic cloning?

A technique has been developed, known as “Therapeutic Cloning”, in which an embryo is created to harvest stem cells, to be used, for example, to replace injured or faulty cells and restore the health of many people that are suffering from diseases that were once thought to be untreatable.
----------

An embryo is a baby. I believe that is wrong. But I'm in a quandary, My first grandchild was born without a hand and she didn't have feet after countless surgeries, (around 30) the doctors built her feet from her own body, after circulation took (and it doesn't always) they moved bones in her body and built her feet. She is ten today and runs on her own feet what a miracle!!! But her hand they couldn't do anything about. Now I have seen that they a developing a type of cloning from your own body where you can re-grow a missing limb.they are years away on this research. But in good conscience if this was out now how could someone allow the doctors to cut off a limb so that you can regrow it.Especially a child. The pain alone would be horrible to put someone through yet it would improve the future of the physically handicapped.  (+ info)

What materials do i need to buy when testing salt water against freshwater?

What materials do i need to buy when testing salt water against freshwater?
----------

How are you going to test it? A hydrometer would measure the specific gravity or the salinity of the water, which would be helpful. The salinity is the salt concentration (how much salt is in the water). You can probably find a hydrometer at your local pet store.

You would obviously need salt and some containers also. It would help if we knew more details about your project.   (+ info)
