How I can find medical studies for therapeutic fasting?

Are there any medical/scientific studies out there that have looked at therapeutic fasting? Many people are doing it for many reasons, but I have yet to see a unified opinion on this from the medical community. Please help me out. Thanks
----------

Check out books on fasting, internal cleansing, etc. There are many of them. Also check out articles and books on water fasting, juice fasting, and total fasting. I fast from time to time myself and find it very satisfying.  (+ info)

What are some therapeutic activities that hospitals provide for mentally ill inpatients?

I just watched a clip of America's first mental institutions. was horrified at the treatment of patients. To soften the blow at the end of the clip, the narrator says today hospitals provide every inpatient with a full schedule of "therapeutic activities." What does this mean? Details would be appreciated!

What is the difference between Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Ultrasound technician?

I'm interested in being an ultrasound technician, but it seems it may also be called diagnostic medical sonography? I've been trying google but it's confusing me. So whats the difference?

Also, any tips to get started in that field? i've been looking up ultrasound tech schools, would i just enroll in that after i get my A.A.?
Ok thank you! So I would just do general, cardiac or vascular?
----------

The "correct" and preferred term is Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, or Sonographer for short. No difference though.

You just need to find a DMS program that's CAAHEP accredited. Most are 2 yr Associate's degrees offered at technical colleges. The requirements for entry into the program will vary from school to school. Here's the link: http://www.caahep.org/Find-An-Accredited-Program/

Helpful link: http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos273.htm

*EDIT: you can do whichever specialization you are interested in. Diagnostic Medical Sono is General, then there's Vascular Sonography and Echocardiography. They are all very different, so do some research on each before you decide. If you're unsure, I recommend General because it's so diverse; you'll learn some vascular stuff and can always train on the job for Echo later if you choose to do so.  (+ info)

What causes bruising after a therapeutic massage?

I am wondering if anyone can tell me what exactly causes bruising after a good therapeutic massage. I've tried to Google the answer, but I can't seem to find any real explanation.

I do know that for some people it is a "normal" after affect. I am wondering WHAT exactly is the cause. It isn't because the therapist went to hard, it could also partially be due to the good strong pressure, but I know there is another reason... I just don't know what that reason is.

Thanks everyone :)
----------

Sorry to say bruising is indeed not normal. Bruises are ruptured capillaries or veins that cause the blood to surface. That particular massage therapists is manipulating to rough. It's not safe or healthy for bruising to occur after any massage. Its suppose to be therapeutic no damaging.  (+ info)

When is the earliest that a therapeutic vacinne will be launched to the market?

I am really sad. There is no cure for HPV16 as of today. When do you think or know a new therapeutic vaccine will be available?
----------

Generally, a vaccine does not cure an illness, but rather helps to prevent it, or make effects of the illness less severe if contracted.

How long a vaccine takes to be released depends on a lot of factors. If there is a pandemic disease that is killing a lot of people, a vaccine may be rushed through testing to guage safety and efficiency, but even that takes months. Usually, it takes quite a lot longer for a vaccine or medication to be released. First it is tested in the lab on cells, then on animals, then on people. Doses, side effects, effectiveness and safety all must be determined before the company that created the drug or vaccine can be permitted to market it.  (+ info)

Is there any research supporting the claim therapeutic massage removes toxins from the body?

I have started an exercise program and with it have come the associated aches and pains. I've visited a therapeutic massage clinic and it seems to help. After the massage, I'm told to drink lots of water to "wash out" the toxins released from the massage. I do drink lots of water, but I suspect few, if any, toxins are removed by massage therapy. Any thoughts?
----------

You can research this subject all over the internet. There have not been many in depth studies about the benefits of massage, though the Touch Institute has some research published. The word "toxins" is misleading, and therapists believe many different things. The only thing that is really proven is that cellular waste is flushed out of cells during massage since you are increasing blood flow (circulation, fresh oxygen and nutrients) to the area, and drinking water promotes healthy cellular function.  (+ info)
