Do autoimmune diseases suppress the immune system?

Do they? Or is it the drugs you take for autoimmune diseases that suppress the immune system? Can long term stress or autoimmune diseases suppress the immune system and affect test results, such as HIV, and cause false negatives or positives after about 7 months or so? If you're under a great deal of stress for a long time, or have an autoimmune disease, does it take longer for your body to produce antibodies against diseases, like HIV? Will 7 months have been long enough of a time to wait before getting tested for HIV? Especially since you're not sexually active or do drugs?

Thanks!

Wow - you've quite a few questions there.

Autoimmune diseases can reduce your immune system's effectiveness, yes. However, diseases like Lupus cause the immune system to attack the body, in which case drugs are perscribed to subdue the immune system. Stress does indeed affect your body's immunity in a negative capacity.

Seven months, though? That's a long time for the body to recover its immune defense. Dealing with HIV is something best, perhaps, reserved for medical professionals. There are hosts of checks and tests that can give you definitive answers to your questions much better than the internet can.  (+ info)

What Is The Malfunction Of The Endocrine System That Causes Diabetes?

What Is The Malfunction Of The Endocrine System That Causes Diabetes?
----------

Type 1 Diabetes: Person is insulin dependent because the beta cells in the pancreas do not produce insulin.This would be referred to as autoimmunity because the body destroy's it's own beta cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. Insulin is of course a hormone that helps glucose get into the cells to give them energy.

Type 2 Diabetes: Person is non-insulin dependent, which means that the beta cells in the pancreas do produce insulin but either do not produce enough insulin or the cells are resistent to the insulin that it makes.  (+ info)

Well if there are any disease that affects the whole digestive system , please tell me, and if not , at least tell me if there are any diseases that affects more than 4 organs in the digestive system. =]

thanks =]
LOL guys, i don't have any disease , specially this is a response to the first question -.-, this is actually a report =P
----------

inflammatory bowel disease affects the whole digestive tract. It can be Crohn's disease(affects anywhere from the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestines, large intestines, anus, & rectum. UC affects only the large colon, rectum, & anus.

The medications used to treat these illnesses have side effects that do affect the pancreas, liver, gallbladder, and even blood count. That is why it is so very important to keep MD appts., have the required blood tests, etc. to make sure that the organs are not affected.  (+ info)
