Birth control pills after pulmonary embolism?

Have you tried using birth control after a pulmonary embolism? Or any other forms of birth control?
----------

Do you know what caused the pulmonary embolism? The correct answer may depend on that and your own personal risk factors. But generally, birth control pills are not recommended for someone who is at risk for developing blood clots. The estrogen in birth control can increase clotting factors in your blood, especially if you smoke, are overweight, have a sedentary lifestyle, or have a condition that predisposes you to blood clots. The same would go for any other estrogen-containing birth control. Condoms and diaphragms of course are safe, but not sure about other types of birth control.  (+ info)

How long does a person have before they can die from an air embolism?

my grandmother had some dye injected into her and they realized that there was an air bubble located after they had done some x-rays. They then called her heart specialist from there I have no idea what is going on.
----------

They should be able to find it with the x-ray and deflate it. That's why they called the other doctor.

Depends on how fast it moves. It could be seconds or days before it would kill her. Most likely by now they have removed it.  (+ info)

Does anyone know about the respiratory disease called Pulmonary Embolism?

Because my boyfriend was just diagnosed and hes very sick and they said it is a lot of the time fatal and i am so worried, so scared =[ please tell me anything you know about it and if you or anyone you know has it and if they made it because I need to know.
----------

A Pulmonary Embolism is when a blood clot travels from somewhere else in the body to the lungs and gets lodged there, and yes it can be fatal. It is treated with a clot buster called Heparin. After he recovers he will more than likely be placed on blood thinners called Coumadin/Warfarin and will have to have bloodtests periodically to make sure his INR is within a good range to prevent further clots.

Has he had any surgeries lately? Does he have any blood clotting disorder himself or in his family? There is a disorder called Antiphospholipid Syndrome he could be checked for, also Factor V Leiden. Both are diseases where your blood is too thick and clots too easily.

I am sure he will be fine now that they have discovered and are treating him.  (+ info)

Am I high risk for getting another pulmonary embolism after I get my tubes tied?

2 weeks after I had my daughter I landed in the hospital with a pulmonary embolism, drs have since told me I should not have any more kids as I am high risk. I am now wanting to get my tubes tied since I have been taken off the blood thinners. Would I be considered "high risk" following the surgery? I am undecided now on whether to get my tubes tied or not. Any advice is greatly appreciated
----------

After child birth or any surgery or immobility you are at increased risk of pulmonary emboli. If you are on blood thinners, they would need to be stopped prior to surgery (otherwise you would bleed too much). This increases your risk, as does the actual surgery in which clots can form and subsequently lodge in your lungs. Immobility following surgery can lead to increased formation of deep venous thrombosis (clots) in the legs and hips that can go on to lodge in the lungs also.

Once you stop taking the blood thinners (i know some countries give them for life but where I live (UK) its generally 3-6 months) go to a doctor and discuss your options. I'm sure that whilst you take warfarin you are not allowed to have an elective surgery - emergency surgery is a different case - anyway going off topic.

I would recommend talking to your family doctor for more information; hope this gives you a rough guide.

As someone asid above oral contraception is not an option as it increases the formation of clots (makes your blood sticky).  (+ info)

Is it normal to feel exhausted after a Pulmonary Embolism?

I had pe last week and now I feel totally exhausted and my shoulders hurt. I am wondering if this is normal. Can anyone help me?
----------

Yes, yes, and yes. You have suffered a tremendous health problem to your body. There is a website called WebMD and it is wonderful to do research on just about any condition. I would strongly suggest that you do some research about this and you should also discuss this with your physician and tell them everything that you are feeling that you don't normally feel and anything different since the embolism. Remember the life you save may be your own.  (+ info)

how can I best prevent pulmonary embolism if I have a deep vein thrombosis?

I've been nursing a severe sprain for 2 weeks and harbor all the symptoms of thrombosis, but am home alone with no phone. My closest neighbor is hundreds if not thousands of feet away and like I said, severe sprain...
----------

You obviously have the email facility as you are on the internet?? Which means that you should contact your Doctor or local Hospital, they will be able to help you and give advice.
I would most certainly swallow an ASPIRIN at least, in the meantime.
Hope you resolve this safely and healthily.  (+ info)

What Is The Difference Between A Coronary Embolism And A Pulmonary Embolism?

Embolism is passage of a blood clot from one region of the circulation to another. Coronary embolism means the clot lodges in the coronary arteries of the heart. Usual source of clot will be the left atrium or ventricle.

Pulmonary embolism means the clot lodges in the pulmonary arteries of the lung. The usual source will be the deep veins of the legs or pelvis. Rarely it can originate from the right atrium or ventricle.  (+ info)
