How can you tell if you are leaking amniotic fluid?

I am 37.5 weeks pregnant. I dont think I am leaking but just really paranoid about it. Has anybody leaked amniotic fluid before and how did you know it was?
Thanks! Its nice to have some opinions and advice in what to look for.
----------

The best way to know for sure is if you are wetting underwear or panty liners take a wet one in to Labor and Delivery, they have a paper strip and when they touch it to the wetness if it turns blue it's fluid. you can buy it online

What does an infection of the amniotic fluid mean?

My sister is 4 months pregnant, the doctor told her she as a potential infection of the amniotic fluid. Is this a serious condition? What does it mean?
----------

It can be very serious considering that the baby is floating in the fluid, it can possibly cause an infection in the baby, if they catch it soon enough it is easily treatable with antibiotics.  (+ info)

What do they do with the amniotic fluid in a scheduled c-section?

I had an emergency c-section 10 years ago and they broke my water when I was in labor, now I have to schedule a c-section for my second and I was just concerned about what they do with the amniotic fluid.
----------

They suck it out in order to deliver the baby.
That is why they have such a small window to remove the baby

Im not sure why the first person was so rude

EDIT - Blue eye...whatever it is. Again...quite rude. Are you angry at the world or something? Oh and please, show me rude. Rawwrrr lol.
Oh, and dont call me "dear". Im probably older than you lol. To me, dear is like an adult calling down to a small child.  (+ info)

How can you leak amniotic fluid if cervix is closed?

I've been having watery discharge these last days.. I've been having frequent contractions in the last 22 days..

However, my cervix was checked 4 days ago and it was completely closed.. (Before this i was also having watery discharge)

What can it be? And if it's amniotic fluid, how can it come out with a closed cervix?
----------

You should contact your doctor. A simple test can be done to determine if it is amnotic fluid.

I have had watery discharge with no color at all. It has been just that - regular pregnancy discharge.

Amniotic fluid usually has a smell - sweet or like comet clenser (a bathroom cleaner). It often will leak out when you stand up or cough. This is what I was told by the doctor.

My clear discharge had no odor and didn't ever come out in any particular pattern. Just when it felt like it.  (+ info)

How do you know if it is amniotic fluid?

Is amniotic fluid a certain colour? I have had a few problems with this pregnancy and am not sure if I am actually losing amniotic fluid. It will happen randomly, and I never feel as though I need to pee so thought maybe it has nothing to do with a weak bladder from my first. My doctor was not avaliable today so am going tomorrow. Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated.
----------

Many times you can't tell the difference, especially if your membranes only have a small leak that happens intermittently. Is your fluid loss happening when you cough, laugh, strain to do something? Does it happen when you're sitting completely still? Does it happen more often when you are rising from lying or sitting to standing?

If you really are unsure if you're ruptured, you should be checked out at the hospital, it shouldn't wait until Monday, as you're at high risk for infection if you are indeed ruptured, and they would want to start you on antibiotics and put you on bedrest to avoid a prolapsed cord. Women should always take mysterious fluid leaks seriously. If it's found not to be amniotic fluid, a false alarm never hurt anything. . . but ignoring it if it is amniotic fluid could become serious if left untreated.

Good luck.  (+ info)

Where does half your amniotic fluid go at 27 weeks?

In my pregnancy book, it says it's reduced by half this week, and the baby kicking or kneeing will be more noticeable on your stomach. (Like you'll actually be able to see it in more detail.) But where does the amniotic fluid go?
----------

actually the baby tendt to start drinking it and passing it and drinking it again! that and the size of the baby tends to determine how much or how little amniotic fluid you have!! and yes your baby sdoes drink its own pee....i know eww but i got used to the idea nad am preg with my third1!  (+ info)

How can the doctor tell if there is low amniotic fluid?

I know some women will get a 30 week ultrasound, but I only get the one at 18-20 weeks.
I'm just wondering how the doctor will know, the amniotic fluid is low, or if there are any other complications they need to know about, if they don't do an ultrasound later on.
----------

usually when they measure your uterus they can tell the pregnancy is progressing normally a ultra sould is really the only way to tell the level of fluid but if your measureing small there will be reason for concern and they should do a ultra sound  (+ info)

What is the normal range for amniotic fluid levels?

I'm 32 weeks pregnant and my midwife said my amniotic fluid measured "10.9". She said 10 is the bottom range of normal, but in my prego-brain, I didn't bother to ask the whole range or what units it is measured in. Can anyone fill me in?
----------

5 - 25

Normal amounts range from 5 to 25 centimeters; any amount less than 5 centimeters is considered low
