WHAT ARE THE TREATMENTS FOR AIR EMBOLISM FORM A IV?

HOW DO THEY DIAGNOSE AIR BUBBLESSS AND HOW DO THEY TREAT THAT ONCE ITS ALL IN YOUR CIRCIULATORY SYSTEM?
----------

You put the pt.in trendelenburg position and on there left side. A small amount of air through a peripheral IV won't harm the pt, but if it were a central line you must act quickly because the patient can die.when there is such a large volume of air  (+ info)

signs and symptoms of air embolism?

All of the following are signs and symptoms of air embolism EXCEPT:
a)dizziness
b)delayed onset
c)chest pain
d)difficulty breathing

I think it’s b) delayed onset, but I’m not sure. If I’m wrong, can you correct me and tell me why? THANKS!
----------

you didnt say where the embolism was, so out of all of these answers i would say you are right with the delayed onset...

Signs and symptoms of VAE usually develop immediately following embolization..... http://www.emedicine.com/EMERG/topic787.htm (go down to where it says history)

air embolism from sexual intercourse?

is it possible to get an air embolism from sexual intercourse... i'm just wanting to know what the chances are of getting one from sex in women that aren't pregnant?
----------

If a large quantity of air is forced into the vagina, some can make its way into the bloodstream. However, this is highly unlikely and does require something odd like purposefully inflating your partner's uterus. In the average sexual session, small pockets of air may become trapped, but they will usually resolve themselves by squeezing out as a "queef" or "vaginal fart."  (+ info)

embolism and air getting into system?

i know your not suppose to get alot of air into the system but was wondering if this is true like when drinking a bottle of water how there sometimes is really big bubbles when you take a sip--not air bubbles but bigger-
is that the same thing or cant that hurt u?
----------

Swallowing air into your belly via the the gastrointestinal tract, where food and drink normally goes, is different than an air embolism. To get an air embolism you would have to get air into your venous system. Just as you don't get soda to run in your veins by drinking soda, you cannot get air to flow in your veins by swallowing air.  (+ info)

air embolism after 24 hrs possible?

is it possible to live 24 hrs after first receiving an air embolism?
----------

An air embolism, or more generally gas embolism, is a medical condition caused by gas bubbles in the bloodstream (embolism in a medical context refers to any large moving mass or defect in the blood stream). Small amounts of air often get into the blood circulation accidentally during surgery and other medical procedures (for example a bubble entering an intravenous fluid line), but most of these air emboli enter the veins and are stopped at the lungs, and thus a venous air embolism that shows any symptoms, is very rare.(Wikipedia)
Arterial gas embolism is a potentially catastrophic event that occurs when gas bubbles enter or form in the arterial vasculature and occlude blood flow, causing organ ischemia. Arterial gas embolism can cause CNS injury with rapid loss of consciousness, other CNS manifestations, or both; it also may affect other organs. Diagnosis is clinical and may be corroborated by imaging tests. Treatment is immediate recompression.(Merck)  (+ info)

Air embolism while swimming?

Is it possible to get an air embolism if you're swimming and someone blows air bubbles under you? I'm pregnant and just wondering.
----------

I doubt it. My doc told me it would be possible to get water embolism easier than an air embolism. If someone was blowing bubbles under you they would have to blow extremely hard. I mean, the air would have to pass through your swimsuit. I seriously doubt that it could happen.  (+ info)

could this be an air embolism?

i am 3 months pregnant and about 16 hrs ago i had sex on all fours and heard a really load querfing noise. now i'm having trouble breathing and a bit of chest pain. I do not know if this could be an air embolism from about 16 hrs ago and am wondering if the trouble breathing can be associated with it. It has been about 16 hrs so it's been a while. Does it take that long to get symptoms from an ar embolism?
my chest mostly hurts when i take a deep breath in but it comes and goes.
----------

No, you don't have an air embolism. And I don't know off hand what a "querfing" noise is. An air embolism has nothing to do with sex or pregnancy. Maybe you mean queefing? but that wouldn't cause an air embolism either.  (+ info)
