elephantiasis help!!!?

anyone know anyone i can interview for a school project on elephantiasis??!
----------

That's a tough one, all medical records are completely confidential, so finding a person will be difficult, and most people with it probably won't want to talk about it. You might see if there's a national organization associated with the disease and contact them. They would probably have a spokesperson and ,maybe even ,people available to talk to you about it or, at least, give you information.  (+ info)

I think I have a filarial worm in my eye.?

How can I be sure that it is one and if I do have one what can I do to get rid of it?
----------

go to your ophthalmologist (is a MD, ergo qualified to treat this) , (NOT optometrist, who does not have an physician's degree or license) or your GP. They will examine your eyes and see if there is anything there wiggling about.
WHERE have you been to contract this, by the way?

fyi: In conjunctiva filariasis (Loa Loa) , the worms' larvae migrate to the eye and can sometimes be seen moving beneath the skin or beneath the white part of the eye (conjunctiva). If untreated, this disease can cause a type of blindness known as onchocerciasis.

if you are serious about this, go see your doctor.

is elephantiasis an infectious disease?

i just want an answer yes or no
----------

Elephantiasis is due to lymphatic obstruction which results in massive swellings of one or both legs, or arms and possibly scrotum. The skin in the swollen limb is dark and grossly thickened thus resembling the skin of the elephant and hence the name. Any disease condition which can cause the said lymphatic obstruction can cause it including filariasis, a disease transmitted by certain types of mosquito. These are Anopheles species which also transmit malaria and Culex species which also transmit viral encephalitis. So, yes as an answer could do but it not the whole story.

Is elephantiasis painful?

" will a negative result of filarial worms indicate the absence of infection? support your answer. " pls anser

Filiarial worms are nematodes and are isolated in blood. As with all parasites you have to see one to identify it and if the blood specimen you have taken doesn't happen to contain a worm it doesn't necessarily mean you are not infected. It could mean you didn't happen to get a parasite in your blood sample.  (+ info)

introduction of elephantiasis?

Elephantiasis is a skin disease due to nematode parasite. It typically causes gross enlargement of limbs. I have only ever come across one case, and that was in England where a lady had bulbous legs around her calf and shin area for the rest of her life. I do not know what medication is available now, this encounter was nearly 40 years ago, but I hope that the description helps.  (+ info)

Elephantiasis???

what is it???
is it something serious??
is it a disease? an infection?>
contagious maybe??
i know it has somethingn to do with the female anatomy
not sure what it is though. can someone tell me?
----------

Elephantitasis is actually a condition that causes excess fluid in a certain body part. Causing that part to become massivly, huge.
It can be serious for some people depending on where it is effecting.
It's usually caused by lymph nodes not draining effectivly and accumulating fluid.
It's not a disease or an infection but can be caused by a severe, and I am talking really severe, infection in the lymph nodes that would damage them.
It is not contagious.
And it's got nothing to do with the female anatomy.
It's usually found in the legs, arms and ankles etc.  (+ info)
