What do i do about this constant earache I have?

I have this throbbing pain in my ear been there for about 3 days..Ive tried sweet oil and many other home remedies anything other suggestions?
----------

If you have throbbing pain it is likely you have an ear infection. Three days of pain are quite enough. Time to have a doctor check it out. At this point home remedies will not help. You will probably need an antibiotic.  (+ info)

How do I get rid of my painful earache?

I already went to the doctor and took ear drops but my ear still hurts! Any fast remedies? Help!
----------

i cut an onion or a clove of garlic and nuke it in the microwave for about 10-15 seconds, so its steamy hot.
i wrap it in a napkin or something that will protect my ear from the heat but still allow the fumes/steam through
i lay down so my aching ear is pointed to the ground (you want the steam from the vegetable to rise into your ear canal)
hold the onion or garlic over your ear (make sure its really hot, but right at that point that it won't actually burn you) and lay there for about 10-15 minutes.
you can do this a few times if it doesn't work all the way the first time. but it always does for me.

beyond that, you could try ibruprofen...motrin...
it should kill some of the pain and decrease inflammation in your ear.

good luck!  (+ info)

Home Care Dos and Don'ts

Since ear infections can be quite uncomfortable, pain relievers such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen and home remedies like a warm washcloth placed over the ear can ease the pain.

Be sure not to put drops in the ear, like sweet oil, deYbarrondo warns, because they can obscure or cloud the eardrum, making it difficult for the doctor to get a good look. They can also cause irritation.

And, best to hold off on Q-Tips: it just impacts the wax, and pushes it farther down. "Besides, wax is a good thing-it protects against swimmer's ear ( otitis externa ) and keeps the canal's natural acidity in balance, which prevents bacterial growth," de Ybarrondo says.

Infants who lie down while drinking from a bottle rather than propped up in Mother's arms are more prone to fluid backing up in the tubes. De Ybarrondo strongly discourages parents from leaving a baby alone with a baby bottle under any circumstances. And she reminds parents to hold their babies at some incline when feeding them, to let gravity do its work by letting fluid run downhill.

Secondhand smoke leaves its mark on the ears, as well. Children who live in homes where parents smoke are at risk for ear infection because the irritating smoke causes chronic inflammation of the eustachian tube.

If your child is in day care, please keep in mind that the more youngsters your child is exposed to, the more viral illnesses they will meet. "This is no reflection on the day care. No matter how many times the adults wash their hands between diapering or feeding, odds are still high that viruses are being passed around on toys and tabletops," de Ybarrondo says.  (+ info)

What can I do to relieve the pain of an earache?

I haven't had one since I was quite young but I really don't want to go to the doctor's. Is there any sort of home remedy to help promote ear drainage?
----------

well to temporarily relieve the pain of an earache put hot water in a water bottle and put up against your ear. just put a few drops of hydrogen peroxide to promote ear drainage..

If your earache doesn't go away in the next few days i would go to the doctor, if not treated earaches can get serious.  (+ info)

What's the best method of pain relief for earache from an ear infection?

My ear hurts, help! Ibuprofen works a bit and I can't get to the doctor's until possibly Monday.
----------

alternate between ibuprofen and say, co codamol or somethin........ heat helps too, use heat pad or even gently blow hairdryer on gentle heat against side of your head for a while.... i can empathise..... have had chronic ear disease for 25 years now and sometimes the pain is horrendous, i normally take kapake and tramadol for the pain, but these aren't available over the counter...... very importantly keep your ear bone dry whilst showering. you prob need antibiotic if its infected...... i pity you, good luck.  (+ info)
