i mean, if i could possibly avoid taking pills, i wanna know what to do before my period to alleviate the pain coz it's reallyk icking my butt..thanks

If you put a heating pad on your stomach it usually helps, eating bananas also helps because it breaks down the clots and whatnot to make it easier when it goes through your fallopian tubes. Light exercise helps as well. Avoid caffeine because it will make cramping waaaay worse. Herbal caffeine-free tea works awesome because it calms you down and the heat passes onto the cramps and helps.  (+ info)

How can you treat dysmenorrhea (chronic & extreme painful periods)? Any suggestions other than painkillers?

Other suggestions rather than painkillers or contraceptives. Who else has painful periods?
I have talked to several(more than 10) Gynecologists. I have made all the testing they required like ultrasounds, surgery, etc. I have taken their meds (pills, contraceptives, remedies, hot patches, etc). All what they told me was that I am healthy. I dont smoke, drink caffeine or do drugs. I work out 30 min every day. Blood tests are fine. I will try whatever solution you all give me. :(

I used to have painful periods. Painkillers didn't help me much either. I finally found that there are natural ways to deal with hormone imbalance. It sounds like your body is estrogen dominant. I found that I needed more progesterone in my system, it stopped the crazy bleeding & helped the pain. I started using Endau natural progesterone cream and Life Enhancer from a company that I now work with. It has changed my life. I worked, then managed a health food store for a total of 5 years. I've talked to many women on these issues and helped them resolve them naturally. I'm guessing that if you have painkillers that you've talked to a doctor about what's going on. It's a good idea to make sure that there's nothing else causing the problems. If you go to my website you can find a tremendous amount of information about hormone imbalances. There's also an estrogen dominance questionnaire there that you can take and find out where you are. I also have a yahoo group where we talk about all of these issues. Please feel free to check them out. I hope you feel better, it makes your life miserable to be in so much pain.  (+ info)

what is the best medicine of dysmenorrhea?

can you give me advise on how to lessen the pain?
----------

Ponstel, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, is used for the relief of moderate pain (when treatment will not last for more than 7 days) and for the treatment of menstrual pain. More common side effects may include: Abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, stomach and intestinal upset, and vomiting.

Do not take Ponstel if you are sensitive to or have ever had an allergic reaction to it. You should not take it, either, if you have had asthma attacks, hay fever, or hives caused by aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as Motrin and Nuprin. Make sure your doctor is aware of any drug reactions you have experienced. Do not take Ponstel if you have ulcerations or frequently recurring inflammation of your stomach or intestines.

Avoid this drug if you have serious kidney disease.

Dosage Suggested per manufacturer:

The usual starting dose is 500 milligrams, followed by 250 milligrams every 6 hours, if needed, for 1 week.

Taking Naproxen every month for my dysmenorrhea=bad?

It is the only thing that helps with my dysmenorrhea sypmtoms, but I'm scared of the long term effects (heart attacks, stroke, ulcers, internal bleeding, etc etc.). Is taking Naproxen once or twice every month for years and years to come bad?
----------

My partners been taking naproxen twice a day for the last 7 yr, if there was any damage that can be done while taking them then im sure the GP would have taken him of them long before now, I think if your only taking them once or twice a month then your ok, If your worried then talk to the GP who prescribed them for you,  (+ info)

what causes dysmenorrhea and how to prevent it.?

i'd also want to know ur opinion about the ff.
* dont eat sour fruits during menstruation cuz they will cause dysmenorrhea.
* drink soda when you're having dysmenorrhea to help relieve the pain.
----------

Painful menstruation is the leading cause of lost time from school and work among women of childbearing age. This pain may precede menstruation by several days or may accompany it, and it usually subsides as menstruation tapers off.
