Does a combination of water, salt, and sugar really get ride of dysentery diarrhea?

The greatest danger from dysentery is that your body loses two things essential for your body to be able to function: large quantities of water, and the essential nutrients sodium and potassium, called electrolytes, that among other things allow your brain to send messages to the rest of your body.

Kids get dehydrated alarmingly fast, so in developing countries where bacterial and parasitic diseases are common due to contaminated water, mothers are encouraged to immediately start their little children suffering from diarrhea on a "rehydration solution," like Ceralyte, or make their own which is simply bottled water, salt and sugar to replace the essential things lost through diarrhea. You cannot rehydrate a severely dehydrated person with water alone: you have to replace the electrolytes. If rehydration solution isn't available or the child won't swallow it--it tastes pretty ghastly, but I can tell you from experience that you crave the salt and sugar when you're deyhdrated--you can try them on bouillon or clear soups, which contain sodium, and fruit juices, soft fruits like bananas, or vegetables, which contain potassium.

how would i describe the diseases : african sleeping sickness, and amebic dysentery (wnat are the two parasite?

African sleeping sickness is caused by a parasite called Trypanosoma brucei gambiense or rhodesiense depending on the location in Africa. It is transmitted by the tsetse fly. It initially is bloodborne but progresses to the CNS.

Amoebic dysentary is caused by Entamoeba histolytica, which of course is a protozoan amoeba. You usually get this from contaminated water/food washed with contaminated water.  (+ info)

Due to my dysentery I am feeling ill. I am loosing my life force. Please advice me to to improve my energy & get redemtion from this physical condition.
----------

Why do you have chronic dysentery? It could be amebiasis or inflammatory bowel disease. Amebiasis can be diagnosed with simple stool examination. It can be treated with drugs like metronidazole, tinidazole, secnidazole, diloxanide furoate and others. Inflammatory bowel disease needs a gastroenteologist for diagnosis and treatment.Take small, frequent meals. Avoid milk. Take yogurt, rice, bananas, apples, toast. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking oral rehydration solution and lots of water. Take multivitamins and folic acid. Get your hemoglobin checked.  (+ info)

what is amebic dysentery?

is it a virus or bacteria? where in the body does it attack?
----------

It's neither. It's a parasite called Entamoeba histolytica.
Amebiasis is contracted by consuming contaminated food or water containing the cyst stage of the parasite. It can also be spread by person-to-person contact. The mild form of amebiasis includes nausea, loose stools, weight loss, abdominal tenderness and occasional fever. Rarely, the parasite will invade the body beyond the intestines and cause a more serious infection, such as a liver abscess.

Specific antibiotics such as metronidazole can be prescribed by a doctor to treat amebiasis.  (+ info)
