Dry Socket?

I had a tooth pulled on Wednesday, now its Sunday and my denstist says I have dry socket.
Does anyone know any remedies for effective pain relief? I have been using clove oil and T3's, but im wanting to try something maybe a little stronger?
----------

go to the dentist he should clean the socket and put a medication in it. afterward take a syringue home and use it with water to clean the socket after each meal, and it will feel a lot better... no need to get stronger medication... dont cure the symptoms, cure the cause and it will all go better  (+ info)

Dry socket?

I got all 4 wisdom teeth pulled thursday the 7th. It seems like all the sides healed fine but one is still giving me a lot of trouble. My jaw on that side is soar and the pains seem to go all the way down into my shoulder, so either I pulled something in Kickboxing or there is something seriously wrong! Right under my jaw is a really soar kinda ball/lump that hurts like heck if I touch it. Does anyone know the symptoms to dry sockets and if I might be getting one? Any home remedies I could try to help minimize this discomfort?
----------

If you were developing a dry socket it would have occured a couple days after and the pain would be unbearable. Usually you have a post op check with the OS a week after. I would call the surgeon. You could try a heating pad on the side of your face...2 tylenol and 2 advil.  (+ info)

dry socket?

If I had a dry socket would it hurt countionously? This morning my site of my extraction of wisdom teeth started hurting horribly but now after ice and laying down, and biting on a tea bag- i feel fine. I cant go eat a steak(even though I would love too), but I do feel much better. Does it sound like a; dry socket?
----------

yes! dry socket pain ONLY goes away with a visit to your dentist. They will pack the socket with what is called dry socket paste for instant relief. Dry socket happens when the blood clot formed in the socket becomes dislodged leaving the socket exposed to air, foods, liquid and common mouth bacteria. sounds like your ok.  (+ info)

How long does it take for a dry socket to heal?

I had all four of my wisdom teeth extracted on June 9th, 2009. I have one dry socket and it is extremely painful. I just started searching about remedies & such.

I found a lot of sites saying that clove oil is a useful remedy.

When using clove oil for pain relief, how long do dry sockets last?
What's the longest/shortest amount of time they can last?
----------

Clove oil will help dull the pain a little. However it does nothing for the inflammation of the jawbone. Left untreated, which is what you would be doing, pain from dry socket will persist for 2 weeks or so.
Go back into the dentist who extracted the tooth. One application of Alvogyl usually takes care of dry socket.  (+ info)

Can you get a dry socket with any extraction or just wisdom teeth?

I got my wisdom teeth taken out a month ago. I got a dry socket in the lower right side. The surgeon said that it was from an extra long root the tooth had, and that it was longer then the rest (useless information.) I have to have 4 more teeth taken out for braces and I want to know if you can get a dry socket with any extraction. Which I guess is a common sense question but all I have read or heard, is for wisdom teeth.
----------

GOOD QUESTION!
A DRY SOCKET ONLY FORMS IF THE HEALING CLOT IS LOST AND THUS THE SOCKET BECOMES OPEN AND STAYS SO.
THE GENERAL OBSERVATION IS THAT WISDOM TEETH, AND THE LOWER ONES IN PARTICULAR SUFFER MOST OFTEN.
WHY?
THE JAW BONE IS THICKEST THERE AND WITHOUT A CLOT THERE TO AID HEALING A DS WILL OCCUR.
THE PREMOLAR BONE JAW IS MUCH THINNER AND A DS THERE IS RARE.  (+ info)

What is the process of caring for a dry socket after having Alvogyl?

I just went to the surgeon today and was told I had dry socket. he rinse the socket and then pacted it with Alvogyl (by far the worst tasting and smelling thing EVER!). He stated that I will not have to come back again for anything else. But, I do not know how often to mouth rinse now or care for the dry socket with the Alvogyl stuffing. Any information on how to care for the dry socket and precautions to take would be wonderful.
----------

call the surgeon. He should have given you aftercare instructions  (+ info)

How long is the paste for a dry socket supposed to stay in?

I recently had 4 wisdom teeth pulled and developed a dry socket in the lower right one. The dentist put in some dry socket past on April 17 and then some more on the 19th. The pain is now gone, but the paste is still in. How long should the dry socket paste stay in?
----------

Most of the paste packing are left in and res orb over time. This is what he probably used, especially if you were not given an appointment to come back. If in doubt you can call the office and ask. Glad you are doing better.  (+ info)

Can a dry socket make you sick to your stomach and all over headache?

I think this is either an infection or a dry socket. The pain started in my temple area on day 4. Last night (day 6) my whole head even the back was hurting and I am soooo sick to my stomach. I have a bad taste in my mouth too! What could this be?
UPDATE: I believe what was going on was a migraine headache. I had a bad headache last month (nothing like this though) and it sounds like that was the issue...yes was is the word its gone knock on wood. I do have stitches that are starting to pull and become uncomfortable and tomorrow is day 9 and since I am on vacation anyway I am going to call and get them out so I can enjoy the rest of the day...Thank you guys for your answers though!!!!!

God yes, I had two dry sockets this summer and it was the most painful thing i've ever experienced. keep the ice pack on it as often as possible and make sure to keep the area clean but Do Not squeeze too hard with the syringe, it will prevent tissue from growing in. good luck, i hope you feel better soon.  (+ info)

What are the chances of getting dry socket 4 days after a wisdom tooth removal?

My teeth are still slightly sore, but nothing horrible. Is it still possible to get dry socket, or am I probably OK by now?
----------

slightly sore is normal, my dentist told me that dry socket can happen even weeks afterward. if you get it, you'll definitely know it. the pain went right to the top of my skull!  (+ info)

How long does it take for a dry socket to close?

I had all my wisdom teeth removed about 2 months ago. I had dry socket in both my lower sockets, but within a few weeks the pain was gone; however, these two months later the sockets are still exposed. I am completely pain free but it is really irritating having to stick irrigate the sockets with water to remove food.

I do believe the holes are shrinking slightly as I do not as easily get large pieces of food trapped.

Any ideas on how long this _should_ take?
----------

the holes take forever to close. i got mine taken out spring break. and i still have the holes in my gums. plus with your dry socket, it would have taken longer now because it wasn't taken care of properly.

you have a while. couple months.  (+ info)
