I have type 2 diabetes last 2 days I have had tingling in my hands and feet and they are swollen this is also followed by an occasional headache and upset stomach.I have no way to test my sugar levels untill I recieve a meter next week,should I be worried?
2 out of 3 diabetic patients suffer from heart attack. Diabetic neuropathy can cause numbness or tingling sensation. More over the swelling of feet is a symptom of heart disease / Kidney disease.

ABCs for good Diabetes Care.
(1) Get your Glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) test done at least four times a year. (Target: Below 7).
(2) Urea, creatinine, potassium-blood test to be done every year for kidney function.
(3) Albumin-creatinine ratio. Get your urine test done atleast once in a year for kidney function. (Target:Micro-albuminuria: Below 30).
(4) Aspirin Check with your doctor if you need to take aspirin daily.
(5) Blood pressure. Get your blood pressure checked every visit. (Target: For diabetic patients below 130/80 mm Hg. Others 140/90 mm Hg.)
(6) Abdominal circumference (Target: For male-90 cms. For female-80 cms)
(7) Fasting lipid profile (Cholesterol) Get your LDL (bad cholesterol) levels checked at least once a year. (Target: For diabetic patients-below 70 mg/dL. Others below 100 mg/dL). Triglycerides. (Target: Less than 150 mg/dL) Serum Cholesterol (Target: Less than 200 mg/dL) HDL (good cholesterol) (Target: More than 40 mg/dL)
(8) Diabetes Education. Know about diabetes & get updated regularly.
(9) Eye exam. Get your eyes examined regularly, get checked at least once a year.
(10) Teeth. Get your teeth examined by a Dentist and get tartar (plaque) removed once in a year.
(11) Foot care. Check your feet daily . Request your doctor to check them every visit. Get an extensive foot examination done once in a year.
(12) Mono-filament test & Bio-thesiometry for every year for assessing neuropathy.
(13)Glucose (Sugar) test. Control your blood glucose & do self-monitoring as & when required. (Target: Fasting blood sugar 60-100 mg/dL; Postprandial blood sugar 2 hours after food-Less than 140 mg/dL)
(14)Health life style. Exercise regularly & stay healthy.

What is the lowest your blood sugar can go before you go into a diabetic coma?

It depends on the person. One person might still be conscious with a sugar of 20. Another person may be unconscious with a sugar of 60.

The lowest I have ever been and still been conscious was 28. My lowest sugar ever (that I know of) was 18. I was unconscious at that point.

I had a patient once (an adult) that was out cold with a sugar of 45. I also once had a patient (a child) that was fully conscious, alert and oriented and had a sugar of 1200. That is the honest truth...I had to transport this child to a pediatric hospital and I had seen the lab reports from the referring hospital. I would not have believed it if I had not seen it with my own eyes. OMG.

We are all different with different levels of tolerance. I start feeling symptoms when my sugar drops below 65 or so. I wear a pump so I have to be very vigilant with my sugar. It can drop without warning. I test 8 times a day minimum.

Just a quick note here...diabetic coma (aka DKA) is when a person is suffering from hyperglycemia (HIGH sugar). Insulin shock (or insulin reaction) is when a person is suffering from hypoglycemia (LOW sugar).  (+ info)

If the doctors said she can work, there's not much anyone can do about it. It's not agaisnt the law if the doctors approved her to work. If she has suicide thoughts, being at work can actually be good for her. She should see a doctor for her depression.  (+ info)

i just checked my blood sugar and i was at 67... and i know that ur suppose to be around 110 to 120
ive been as low as 30 and not gone into a coma, it depends on the ppl..ive also been in the 500s and not been in a coma, but about 2 years ago mysugar was in the 300s and i was in DKA..i almost died..was in ICU for 4 days...so its all dependent on the person..diabetes is nothing to mess with, take care of yourself for sure  (+ info)

My uncle was driving and he passed out, some lady hit his car and then he went to the emergency room. When he got there he was in a diabetic coma. The day after that we found out that he also had suffered a stroke. What do you think the possibilities are for his survival?
It all depend on the damage that the stroke caused and where. If damage is so great even if he did not die, an I am not being cruel here, it would be better if he did. You want your dad back as close to his old self as possible. It will take time and a lot of hard work for your father to recover. I feel for your family!  (+ info)

Anything below about 70 or 80 is considered "low," and many people will feel extremely hungry, tired, or dizzy. However, around 60 it's nothing to worry too much about, most people will have a juice and a snack and will come back up to normal with no problem. Anything below 40 or 50 is considered dangerously low and there is a risk of going into shock. There is no set number at which a diabetic will just suddenly go into shock, everyone and every situation is different. I know of someone who passed out at around 45, but one time my sister's was below 25 and she felt completely normal.
