How do you apply salicylic acid shampoo to the face to treat seborrheic dermatitis?

I have a mild form of seborrheic dermatitis on my face and my dermatologist prescribed salicylic acid shampoo to rub on my face. The only problem is that I forgot the directions of how to apply it, when, and for how long.

Does anyone know?
----------

Just put it on and keep it on for few hours, then wash it away.
It it doesn't help, try anti-eczema cream from http://www.champori.com. It works for seborroeic dermatitis as well.  (+ info)

How long will it take till my seborrheic dermatitis to go away?

I went to see my dermatologist last week and was told i had seborrheic dermatitis around my nose and was told to use Hydrocortisone 1% and its been a week now and i barely notice a difference.......how long does it usually take till it completely goes away? Its very disappointing to have to put on this cream and wakeup and notice nothings changed....it hasn't gotten worse but it also hasn't gotten better. What's the time frame when it comes to this?
----------

For everybody it is different. Steroids did not work at all for my SD. I've found anti-eczema herbal remedies at serenaskin.com that works very well for me. Cream and spray cleared the skin and now i just take anti-eczema extract to prevent future flare-ups. I'm pleased with the results.  (+ info)

Naturally treat Seborrheic Dermatitis of the scalp?

I have Seborrheic Dermatitis of the scalp. I use coal tar shampoo and salicylic acid shampoo. Anyone have ideas of other more natural ways I can treat this condition?
----------

are you sure it is seborrheic dermatitis?? i do not know of any natural ways to treat this, but i have heard that denorex's therpeutic tar shampoo is good - better than neutrogena tar shampoo. the problem is it is hard to find. if you have any bad inflamed intact sores you can also try putting a little cortaid cream on it overnight. it will help with the itching and swelling. if none of this helps, i would see a dermatologist. good luck.

also, if you find the tar shampoos are not working you can try nizeral a-d shampoo. sometimes this works when all else fails. it is an anti-fungal, unlike the others.  (+ info)

Will getting rid of dandruff "possibly" get rid of my seborrheic dermatitis on my face?

I've heard of cases where getting rid of dandruff also got rid of a patients seborrheic dermatitis. Is this true?

I've got seb. dermatitis on my face and also dandruff. Any cream I use seems to do nothing on my dermatitis. Perhaps getting rid of my persistent dandruff first might help? Do they have a connection?

What are the available medications for treating Seborrheic Dermatitis?

What are the available medications for treating Seborrheic Dermatitis, both prescription and over-the-counter? Also list side effects if you know them please.
----------

Either ask your doc for a prescription for Nizoral shampoo or go to the local drug store or grocery store and get the non-prescription version of it..same name. The prescription version works a bit better but the non-prescription works just as well except you hafta use it longer to get the same results from what I noticed using the different ones. I dont of any side effects per say except that for me, it seems to get worse before it gets better. Just use every other day for about 2 weeks to a month and then once a week or once every other week there after it has cleared up. You cannot get rid of this but this shampoo will kepp it under control if used the way I decribed. Or you can also try Nutrogena T-Gel shampoo you can buy at a drug store or grocery store as well but I found this not to work for me. Good Luck, it is a very frustrating condition to have and live with.  (+ info)

Does anyone know of an effective treatment for seborrheic dermatitis on the face?

Ever since I had mono 1 year ago, I've had seborrheic dermatitis (SD) on my face and scalp. Can a lowered immune system from an illness such as mono ever trigger this? The dermatologist who diagnosed it put me on a steroid cream for my face but it made my condition worse. Are there any other facial treatments for this condition besides steroid creams? I had clear skin before the SD hit. Now I get dry red itcy blotches all over my face and scalp especially in the cold winter months.
----------

I hate to say it but till this day there is no such cure for seborrheic dermatitis. It can appear and disappear randomly. I'm dealing with this annoying thing for four years now. I'm currently taking a pill (sorry do not remember the name of the medication but will let you know) and a cream (again, can't remember..) which is not cortisone based. (I'll probably need another pill for memory). Do not use cortisone or steroid creams as they might be effective in the beginning but gradually wear out your skin leaving it thinner and thinner, in some cases causing little visible capillary vanes. I try to eat as healthy as possible, a lot of vegies and fruit, not much bread (yeast) as I used to, occasionally do saunas, do exercise and try to keep my skin as clean as possible. I guess the only thing we can do is keep treating it the best way we can and hope that one day it will go away. Let's be optimistic.. it'll have to go away!!!  (+ info)

I have seborrheic dermatitis and it's in my ear and it itches all the time. What can I use for it?

I went to the ear, nose and throat doctor for clogged ears and I had "skin" build up because I have seborrheic dermatitis and it's in my ear and it itches all the time. The dr. said I have some type of fungal infection. My ear's clogged up again any suggestions?
----------

If you have a fungal infection in your ear the doc should have given you some medication for it. He also should have told you what to do for the seborrheic dermatitis. Either go back to the doc and get this taken care of or consider changinge docs since this one didn't go a good job of taking care of your problems.  (+ info)

Would an anti-candida diet help me with my seborrheic dermatitis?

I'm asking because I have seborrheic dermatitis (I'm currently in the middle of a flare-up) and would like to keep off steroids. I understand that seborrheic dermatitis is fungal-related (to Candida and yeast) and auto-immune related, and feel that a diet that goes against the growth of candida would help me with this condition. What is your opinion on this?
----------

My opinion is that, first of all, it's really not related to yeast, and secondly, an anti-candida diet wouldn't help at all. There is a dermatologist in the U.S. who claims that psoriasis is related to intestinal candida, but he's in the minority of opinion.  (+ info)

What healthy diet should i supposed to take in seborrheic dermatitis disease and what should i aviod?

seborrheic dermatitis is a head sclap problem.
----------

rule of thumb eat healthy ,sprouts ,green leafy vegie, fruits ,this is what is recommeded in every health condition n sebborheic dermatitis is no diff.seborrheic dermatiitis is inflammatory skin conditions involved scalp , axilla ,groin n chest all hairy areas ,its predetermined gentical condition n more aggresive in winters hence other tahn diet u need good antifungal shampoo to cut off malsasia furfur ,yeast responsible for aggravation of seb derm , i suggest u to visit ur dermatologist n take proper rx as diet can only play supportive role not amin treatment
