can urination or lying on carpet cause a child to get a contact dermatitis rash?

i need explanation in detail of the types of things that can cause a child to get a contact dermatitis rash. like sleeping on carpet or urinating on him self and the web site you found the information on.
----------

Unfortunately, some people just have very sensitive skin. I could roll around in poison ivy and it wouldn't bother me. My husband and daughter get horrible rashes if they walk within 10 feet of it. I have no web site, just life experience with the two "weaklings" I live with. I have to use baby detergent on all of their clothes, and put a blanket on the carpet for my daughter to play on. The only way to truly pinpoint their allergies, is to go to a doctor for allergy testing. Or you can do it the way I do--trial and error. If my daughter gets a rash with one soap, we throw it out and try another. The possible culprits you should consider are: soaps, fabrics, dyes, scents.... Also keep in mind that moisture and heat will make it worse because it causes the pores in the skin to open up and take in more of the irritant.   (+ info)

I have developed a skin rash on my legs - doctor called it contact dermatitis. I need to know of products used?

I have developed a skin rash on my legs - below the knee - the doctor called it "contact dermatitis". I am on day 3 of prednisone (a 5-day prescription) and no notable difference. I am using benadryl cream on it as well. Does anyone know of any products that could speed the healing process or take some color out of it. It itches from time to time but not terrible.
----------

Initial treatment includes thorough washing with lots of water to remove any trace of the irritant that may remain on the skin. You should avoid further exposure to known irritants or allergens.
In some cases, the best treatment is to do nothing to the area.  (+ info)

What can I do to stop getting contact dermatitis from chlorhexidine wash??

It's the only hand wash in my workplace and I wash my hands after every patient... arrrggghhh. Also I use the alcohol rub which also contains chlorhexidine, I feel if I don't use these I am at risk of spreading bacteria. My hands get so itchy afterwards.... Can someone develop something that doesn't produce contact dermatitis
----------

Your employer has an obligation to work with you to find a solution to your problem, including things like bringing in a different hand cleanser for you. But I wonder... do you think it is possible you have a latex sensitivity? When I switched to latex free gloves, the dermatitis on my hands resolved.  (+ info)

What is the best course of action to get rid of contact dermatitis?

The rash looks like an irritant eczema which would normally (not always) be expected to be caused by contact with an irritant substance or organism. However, I have no idea what. Is there a way to ID these rashes to avoid their cause. No pets. Location: shins. Or could the rash be caused by a bacterial illness? Not psoriasis by appearance, which also introduces both auto-immunitiy dieseas and a skin response to a pathogen attack.
It looks like Dogger Bank Itch. Left shin above the sock level. Don't wear shorts and I avoid dogs and cats and it is recent so it has not come from the countryside and there are few insects about (hence the mystery). Got a cold virus (so I suppose it could be antibodies, toxins or something?).
Its not scabies, ringworm, flea bites, psoriasis, hand-foot-mouth disease.

Could conceivably be an unprecendented allergic reaction of a common anti-biotic?

I do not get allergies normally, ever of any kind.
----------

I'd go to your doctor. It's most likely an infection. If it IS contact dermatitis it's your body reacting to something. An auto-immune disease is unlikely, as it would be affecting more than just your shins. New socks?

Seriously, it's probably environmental. Take a photo of it to show to your GP, or check out a Dermatology Atlas. I can recommend a good one, it might be able to help you out: http://dermatlas.med.jhmi.edu/derm/  (+ info)

What's the difference between Atopic Dermatitis and Contact Dermatitis?

Try to figure out whoch one i have. My so called "doctor" told me i had cellulitis, which was (excuse my language) but, total bull. I researched and looked up different rashes, and skin allergies/irritants, and turns out i have eczema. But i'm not sure if it's Atopic dermatitis or Contact dermatitis. What's the difference, cause they both kind of look the same. Help?

----------

Atopic dermatitis is pretty general a term. Most people have a predisposition to having eczema. For some reason you will also find it quite common that people who regularly get eczema also have a variety of respiratory issues, like asthma. Eastern medicine has made this association much longer than Western medicine. Regular eczema sufferers seem to have a systemic issue and might find better relief through watching their diet, stress levels and being very cautious about what their skin comes in contact with

Contact dermatitis means your skin came in contact with something specific to cause the irritation. It's more a "situational" skin condition. This could include exposure to a variety of substances like harsh detergents or chemicals or an extreme change in environment. People who have contact dermatitis usually find relief once they realize the cause and eliminate it.  (+ info)

Is it possible to become allergic to contact lenses?

I've been wearing contacts since I was a teenager - I am 25 now. Recently I have not been able to wear them due to a swollen cornea. The optometrist believes I'm allergic to something in my environment and has put me on different types of eyedrop steriods/antibiotics for almost 4 months now and has tried two different types of lenses and everytime I stop wearing the lenses my eyes become better but once I wear them my eyes swell up again. The doctor told me it is not the lenses but I'm beginning to think he's bullshitting me. I couldn't tell you how much money I've spent on visits, meds, and tests. Has anyone else had this problem before? He believes it could be due to a medication I took almost 3 years ago? This is really stressing me out and I can't stand not being able to wear my contacts. Any help would be much appreciated thanks!
Just for the record my optometrist had changed my contact lenses to disposable silicone breathables and I still had this problem. He actually changed the brand twice as well as the solution. I have done some research and found an opthalmologist and I plan on setting an appointment soon. Thank you for all your help and responses! I truly appreciate it!

I'll bet you have dry eye. Doesn't sound real, does it? I've been wearing contacts for 15 years and my eyes have been chronically bloodshot. Finally, after my cornea swelled up, I went to an ophthalmologist and she diagnosed me with dry eye, where my eyes don't produce enough tears and my contacts worsened the condition by sucking the moisture out of my eyes. I now have permanent tear duct plugs and am on Restasis, and still haven't seen much improvement. My eyes get red whenever I wear contacts. I have a follow-up appointment next week. See an ophthalmologist, not an optometrist....an ophthalmologist is an actual MD and they specialize in eye disorders. Also, do some research on the internet about dry eye to get some more info. I miss contacts too- I only wear them a couple times a week. I intend to try a different brand, one that permits more oxygen to get through, but my doctor doesn't want me wearing contacts until my condition is better controlled.  (+ info)

How can I tell if I'm allergic to contact lenses?

My vision is pretty bad so I considered wearing contact lenses. I'm on my second day and I really can't stand them. I can feel them, my eyes hurt, and I keep blinking alot. How can I tell if I'm allergic to them. They are really bothering me.
----------

Your eyes may need to be moistened. Add some eye drops for contacts. Are you only wearing them a few hours a day until its a whole day? I don't like contacts, it always made my eyes feel like there was sand in my eyes.  (+ info)

Does a an allergic person need to have direct contact with a food to get sick?

If someone is allergic to pickles, and they eat a sandwich that had pickles but someone took the pickles off, can they still get sick? Someone did that at my job and I was just curious.
----------

Yes.....if someone is HIGHLY allergic to something (I am to peanuts) then if the food that they are allergic to comes in contact with a food that they are going to eat....they can get sick...sometimes very sick. That is also why when you read food labels it sometimes says "this food is manufactured in a facility that processes............." Things can get cross contaminated. Certain individuals cant be near someone who is eating a product that they are allergic to. It depends on the person...but risk's should never be taken on this matter. It is very serious...some people with food allergies have to carry medicine around with them to be on the safe side  (+ info)
