Can a dentist accidentally damage your dentin with their tools?

with their sharp metal tools poking around I read that they can damage your tooth's dentin
----------

No they can't because dentin is under the enamel.  (+ info)

How will they fix a lateral incisor if it has a piece missing(near the gum) and the dentin is showing?

Do they fill it in the missing spot? Or do they remove it and replace it with a fake one? D:
----------

Depends on how much is missing--they can build it up with some composite. I have a tendency to brush to hard, and I have had some exposure over the past few years, which my dentist has covered nicely with tooth-colored composite.

Good luck!   (+ info)

What is the thickness of enamel and dentin in decidiousand permanent teeth?

It varies considerably depending on what particular tooth you are talking about. There are many dental anatomy books that contain this specific information.  (+ info)

I have some dentin exposed and it is worn down some. Will a cavitronwear it more? Will sanding with baking soda?

Please let me know which method is best to avoid further wear.A cavitron or one of those devices that blast baking soda on the teeth.Or are both ok?

Sufferers of enamel loss who have tried veneers or bleaching to hide dentin; are you pleased with outcome?

I have enamel loss caused by excessive brushing on 2 visible teeth, so need to decide whether to have veneers or bleaching, thanks
i'm male........
----------

Bleaching will not fix enamel loss.
There are special toothpastes on the market that I think can rebuild enamel bt for a fast fix you would need veneeers.

My sister has had them done to correct the same problem (where the tooth almost becomes "see - through") and the result is fantastic ---- so if you can afford the treatment go for it ;)  (+ info)

Does anyone know where i can find a picture of what a exposed root or dentin looks like on a tooth? what color

i have a hole that broke off near the gums and i want to know if it extends to the root. it is brownish red i think (hard to see cuz its a back tooth.
----------

Type 'gum recession' on any search engine and look for pictures. It is usually brownish yellow, but with stains (coffee and nicotine) can appear much darker.  (+ info)

can you repair your enamel on your teeth when the dentin is showing?

Hi wayne thanks for ur answer it is really good to know somebody thats going thru the same thing cos i always think i am on my own but i am not

thanks once again
thanks for ur answers but i cannot afford vaneers or anything cosmetic, is there anything else i can have apart from that??
----------

Hey chelsey, I actually thought of your question yesterday, last night when I went to bed. Anyways, Its very hard to get enamel back after it is completely gone. I've tried everything and it just does not work. Sure you can go to the dentist, he can buff your teeth to be white, with zero stains. But after awhile they will come back. And after that, your teeth will start to rot. To be honest, As soon as I find another job *as I lost mine awhile back* I will try to get dentures. Like you, I just want nice teeth. Its somewhat embarassing to have messed up teeth because people judge you, and think you are "unclean" and other things. I still use enamel protective toothpaste, but at this point its kind of pointless.
I wish I knew you personally, because being alone with this problem is hard, and no one really understands the daily struggle with it. Good luck Chelsey.  (+ info)

How is Tertiary dentin form and what causes it to form?

It is also known as repairative dentine and is is basically how your teeth respond to infection (decay). It is created to increase the amount of space between the infection and the pulp of the tooth, which is full of nerves and blood supply.
It is formed by odontoblasts (dentine producing cells) depositing dentine.
Hope that helped.  (+ info)

does having thick dentin make your teeth look yellow?

will it whiten your teeth if bleach?
----------

yes, dentin is what gives teeth their yellow colour..enamel is translucent so if u have thicker dentin (i.e. less enamel) ur teeth will appear more yellow...

and yes bleaching will whiten ur teeth because it goes into the dentinal tubules ;)  (+ info)

How do I get the cavities in my teeth to heal if they are not into the dentin yet?

There is no guarantee they will "heal" but there are some things you can do to help keep them from penetrating the enamel to the dentin.
1: Floss every day, preferably in the PM
2: Brush with an ADA approved fluoride toothpaste 2-3 times a day.
3: Use a restoring mouth rinse like ACT Restoring Mouthrinse.

I have had some of these areas in my mouth for many years.

These lesions are referred to as "incipient" and may remain so for many years if you take good care of your teeth. It doesn't take much to have them progress to a cavity if you slip. Get regular X-rays to monitor these areas.  (+ info)
