What are common interview questions for the dental field?

I have an interview on Thursday at a dental office for a receptionist position and wondering what kind of questions they would ask in an interview and if anyone has any tips for me. I am a recent dental assisting graduate and this is my first interview and I am really nervous about it.
----------

working in the front office, you get a lot of patients calling with questions and/or problems. the dentist will likely give you a an example of a phone call with a question and how you would handle it. they are really seeing how you interact with people. being in the front office. you are the first person the come into contact with and you are representing their office so you need to be pretty knowledgeable. you want to make sure the patient is perfectly clear about what is going to happen and how much things are going to cost. they will be judging on whether or not you are the type of person that can handle situations make patients feel comfortable and do problem solving. they like to see you asking questions to so think of some things that you want to ask them. i am sure you will do fine. good luck!  (+ info)

What are the disadvantages of a fixed dental bridge?

I have lost my four teeth from the front row in an accident.I am now 21 year old.I need a permanent replacement for my teeth.Currently i cant afford a dental implantation. So i go for a bridge. All i want to know is will this bridge lasts for a long time? Any discomforts(Shaking,Byte problems)will come? Can i replace it with a dental implantation in the future?
----------

Fist of all by getting a bridge your Dentist will use the two teeth next to the missing as abutments, most likely they will be perfect teeth that will get adjusted to fit a crown over the teeth to hold the bridge to the missing teeth (the pontics) . to tell you the truth by the time the work is done the price you pay for the bridge will be about the same as the implants.

Now the implants will consist of two sections, so you can pay in two portions. And it takes about 6 months in between so you can save or pay the first part first and then the second part. the benefits of the implant is that you are not permanently damaging perfect teeth. Also the crowns can decay, implants don't even though you need to maintain the health of the gums. If you need to save $$ you may ask your dr to make you a temporary flipper until you have saved enough money for your treatment.
Hope this helps !!  (+ info)

What the cheapest quality dental and or eye insurance?

What the cheapest quality dental and or eye insurance? I want coverage on both but don't want to pay much, fixed income and my tooth is hurting and I normally don't have much extra cash.
----------

Good dental care is usually not much more expensive than the visits themselves......

You should call, ask some questions about prices, and ask about Care Credit, a dental credit line. You can extend payments for a year with no interest if approved....

Really, you can do the regular maintenance things, but it is important to go yearly....

Just like your car....it needs a tune-up or oil change, and you get it done and pay for it, you don't have insurance for that do you?

Good dental care cost are in the hundreds....not thousands....it is NOT like medical coverage at all.....it can be done mostly out of pocket, or spread over a couple of payments....just get into an office and work out something....it can be done.  (+ info)

What is the best dental cement to use with a permanent crown?

I have to go back to the dentist next week for the permanent crown for the second time as the first one was too 'yellow'. He seemed to be asking me what kind of cement to use as he said with the Empress all ceramic crown, you can use a variety of cements. Any dental professionals know what I should 'suggest'??? What's the difference?
----------

That is some serious audacity for him to ask his patient what cement to use. I would suggest not returning to this guy for future treatment after you get your crown.

But, my husband uses Unicem by 3M resin based cement to place all of his FULL porcelain crowns. He's had experience with many types of cementation products and seems to like this the best.  (+ info)

What's the difference between health/dental insurance and a health/dental plan?

I don't get insurance through work but I saw something online for health and dental plans. They seem a lot cheaper than getting insurance on my own.

Has anyone tried this? Is there a catch I'm not seeing?

Thanks!

With a dental plan the company sponsoring the plan doesn't pay out anything. With dental insurance the insurance company pays the dentist.

You have five options with dental.

1. Go without insurance. If you have good teeth and just want the basics you probably don't need any plan. A yearly cleaning, exam and even an occasional filling will cost you less without insurance.

2. Visit a local dental school. You can get many procedures done for a reduced price if you're willing to let them practice on you. You can find one here: http://www.yourhealthplanadvisor.com/Dentalschools.html

3. Insurance - Depending upon the policy: cost $30-$60 per month. You pay a $50 deductible first, they have an annual maximum that they'll pay per year of $750 - $1500, they have a waiting period up to 18 months for major work and then you're paying 50% of the charges. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $919. With insurance you pay $460 after paying 18 months of premium (around $800 or $900). Advantage - you can use any dentist with most plans.

4. Discount plans - Cost - $5-$12 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Also, hardly any dentists will accept the plan and when they do you MIGHT get a 10% discount, which is about the same discount you can get by paying cash. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $919. With discount plans you pay around $827. Be very wary of these plans because most are scams. The people that sell these plans have little or no knowledge about health & dental insurance and do not need a license to sell them. The plans are not regulated by the state so you have no recourse when you have problems. Some states are starting to ban these plans from being sold. Here is an informative link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/west/2006/11/22/74554.htm concerning these plans.

5. Fee for Service discount plans - Cost $7-$15 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Many dentist will accept the plan (check providers first before signing up with any plan). When you use the plan there is a set fee that the dentist will charge you. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $919. With fee for service plans you pay as little as $404.

I'm an insurance agent and my personal plan is the fee for service plan. I got mine here http://www.dpbrokers.com/default.aspx?locationid=20349 specifically the Aetna Dental Access plan but which one you get depends upon your area and comparing the fee schedule to find the best for what you need covered.  (+ info)

What are some tips for first time dental insurance buyers to avoid rip offs and scams?

never having bought dental insurance before can be scary, anyone have any tips to avoid misunderstandings, and high costs, and things like this ? Corporations clearly can trick people to get into their pocket books big time, so what are some things to look out for and avoid when you have never bought dental insurance before? (In California if it matters)
----------

I understand your situation and must say that you do have to be careful.
Here are three tips for you:

1. Check to see if the plan has a maximum cap on the amount of coverage it will give you.

2. Check to see if it allows you to go to the dentist of your choice.

3. Check the waiting period before you can access the plan.

I hope this helps.  (+ info)

Do dental hygienists ever have to dissect human cadavers, or parts of human cadavers, in school?

I want to go into a dental hygienist program, but I can't find any information about whether they participate in human cadaver dissection. Please let me know if you've gone through a dental hygiene program. Thanks!
----------

No, most programs don't do that. You should check with your program though.  (+ info)

where can i find reliable information on getting dental work done in thailand?

I'm planning on some travel in the next few months and want to look into getting dental work done while i'm in Thailand. Advice? Cautions? Regulations I should be aware of? I've spent time in Thailand before and know they have excellent medical and dental services available, but would like more detailed information before I look into bookings.
----------

There are some dental clinics owned by Germans. They known to offer quality work. You would need to get your dental job done in Pattaya or Bangkok. I would suggest Pattaya.
