what wil the doctor do when i go with cystitis?
Cystitis or A UTI. When you go to the DR the will test your urine with a nitrate test and check to see if there are any white blood cells present which would tell them that your body is fighting off an infection. Then you will get prescribed and antibiotic. I had a UTI a couple of weeks ago and due to the medication I am on for a chronic condition I was unable to take Bactrim which is what is usually prescribed.
I decided to try this "Simple Sugar" called D-Mannose. You can find it online or at a vitamin/health store. It comes in a powder that you can put in water or whatever drink (except anything acidic like O.J.). It has little to no taste. It got rid of my UTI within a couple of days. It takes hold of the bad bacteria and flushes it out of your system. Antibiotics will kill good and bad bacteria which in most women will cause them to get a yeast infection after. Of course you should go to the DR. But do some research on D-Mannose and try it. I will always use this in the future. It just goes to show you how the Drug Companies run this country because there are so many natural, inexpensive solutions to so many things but it's not known because they want to make the money on the meds the Dr's prescribe. Also be sure to drink as much water as you possibly can. And Cranberry Juice (100% juice not Cranberry Cocktail) Also you can buy a testing kit that AZO makes to test yourself before you go to the doctor. Good Luck....  (+ info)

I have been told I have cystitis. I have had kidney stones in the past and this pain is worse than that. I have a heavy achey bladder and the worst stitch like pains in my lower abdomen. Is this normal with cystitis as I have never had it before. Does anyone have any pain management suggestion? I am on antibiotics for it.
Cystitis is a bladder infection that is usually characterized by frequent, burning urination. It is rare to need pain management, but I would suggest either Tylenol or Ibuprophen. It's also odd to me that your kidney stones weren't as painful as your bladder infection. Very odd.

Whats the difference between cystitis and a UTI?

i was just wondering what the difference is between cystitis and a UTI? i used to get UTI's a lot when i was younger, i hadnt had any for ages but over the past few months ive had 3 and a few people had said it could be cystitis... whats the difference and how do i know which one it is? thanks for any help
Basically, cystitis is inflammation in your bladder. It is caused by frequent UTIs, but then it's like a cycle: when you have that inflammation, you are more prone to keep getting UTIs. Just make sure that you really kick your UTIs by taking ALL of your antibiotics, and be clean! (you know, the basics: wipe only from front to back, make sure you pee after you have sex, etc.) Also, you can prevent UTIs by drinking lots of water, drink cranberry juice (it really does help!), and I know it's kind of gross, but drink a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar regularly. You really can't taste it that much if you drink it mixed in a big glass of water. Hope this helps!!  (+ info)

How long does it take for cystitis to clear up after medication?

If I go to the doctor tomorrow, and he figures out that I do have cystitis and he gives me antibiotics or whatever, how long would it take to clear up? A long time?

Also, can you explain what exactly goes on when a doctor has to test you, or examin you to see if you have some sort of UTI?
I am going to get tested for interstitial cystitis on tuesday.. they are doing what is called a cystoscopy.. they are taking a scope up my vagina, and into my urethra to look inside of my bladder, they will put you under general anesthesia though. It could take weeks or months for the medication to take effect though depending on how your body reacts to it.  (+ info)

I had interstitial cystitis about a year ago, but now I am having similar symptoms again. I am taking Dyflucan for systematic candidiasis, whih I started taking recently. Medications can tend to flar up the IC, but I also had a bladder infection recently and this feels similar. Besides going to the doc, is there another way to distinguish between the two?
Many people suffer from different bladder conditions but it can be hard to tell if the difference between Interstitial Cystitis and a bladder infection. IC or Interstitial Cystitis is when the bladder becomes inflamed. This can be caused by an autoimmune disease such as lupus, scleroderma or fibromyalgia or it can be a stand alone condition with no known cause. Some of the symptoms that you may experience with Interstitial Cystitis (IC) include bladder frequency, very painful bladder spasms, low bladder capacity, and sometimes even incontinence. Many times people that suffer with IC often go miss-diagnosed. Many doctors diagnose the problems as a common bladder infection. Doctors have even diagnosed such symptoms as stemming from emotional problems.

Now let’s take a look at what a bladder infection is all about. A bladder infection is also known as a urinary tract infection or UTI. It's caused from bacteria and is a bacterial infection that affects any part or all of the urinary tract. Many get confused as urine contains many bi products of waste from our bodies but none of which is bacteria. Urine can contain many different fluids such as waste products, water and salt, all of which are bacteria free. When bacteria get into the bladder it multiplies fast in the urine and causes a bladder infection.

There are many different symptoms that come with a bladder infection. An urgent need to urinate is perhaps one of the main symptoms that characterize a bladder infection. The bladder will feel full and you will feel pressure as if you have to urinate immediately and quite frequently. Many also feel a pain or burning sensation when they empty their bladder and often times little to no urine actually come out. Some people may even be able to see the bacteria in the urine as the urine will appear cloudy and can have a foul odor. A fever may also be present.

Are there any home remedies to relieve symptoms of interstitial cystitis? A bladder condition that hurts like a bladder infection.
I've had pelvic floor pain misdiagnosed as IC. I know how really bad it is. I was off work for months until I got some relief and I am still slowly recovering. Work with your doctor to try all sorts of medications to relieve the pain. Don't rule out muscle relaxants and in my case Klonopin, an anti-anxiety drug that can relax the pelvic floor and reduce pain. Some of IC pain is the bladder but usually there is some pain from tight pelvic floor muscles too. Most urologists overlook this, stick you on Elmiron and hope you're one of the 20% it helps, or they do DMSO instillations. If your urologist is not working with you, find another. Mine was willing to try experimental treatments.

As for easy thing you can do at home - heat really helps. Get a rice or buckwheat heating pack for the microwave oven and use that.

Try the IC diet - it did not work for me but it helps some people. And see if you can get a prescription for physical therapy for pelvic floor - THAT is what changed my life.

If you can, go see Dr. Jerome Weiss in SF - I flew there to see him. He is a world expert in this. I paid a lot of money to get there and see him but it changed everything. Worth every penny. He is very supportive and he really helped me.

Be careful there - there is good advice - there are also desperate people who have not gotten control of their illness for whatever reason. I took what I could from there and moved on and did not let it suck me down.

The main thing is to never stop looking for answers. If hadn't, I would still be where I was two years ago - on the sofa, non-functional and in pain. I'm back at work and about 80% recovered now and have a good life again.  (+ info)

What is the difference between a UTI and Cystitis?

I think i have either one of these (pain while peeing) but not sure which one. I bought some medicine for Cystitis, does this matter if it is a UTI after all? I cant see a doctor due to work hours and it's not hugely serious yet, but i want to clear this in time. Any advise is very much appreciated!

One of my female dogs is prone to cystitis, anyone have any ideas what the cause may be?

She is 6 years old now, has had several bouts and responds quickly to antibiotics, but the vet has advised on her next bout they want to do an ultrasound. Does anyone know of a diet that may help prevent cystitis, I do know it's quite common for females to get cystitis once in a while, but I am concerned that she seems to be getting them more than her share.
make sure the food is fresh and is not left out in sun. Try different foods. Your vet can supply you with some specific needs food, which is highly expensive.
The main thing you need to look for is lessening bacteria, especially E. coli from being ingested. Also if she is having relations with another dog, this can also bring bacteria to the bladder.
Make sure she has a lot of water. This helps to flush out bacteria naturally.  (+ info)

does the contraceptive pill still work after using cystitis treatments?

I've been taking cerazette (pop) for about 2 months, i recently had cystitis and took cymalon sachets. I had sex two days after (today) and i'm now worried that cymalon might reduce the effectiveness of my pill. My friend said treatments for thrush can effect the pill and i was concerned cystitis treatments might do as well. Do i need to get the morning after pill?
Well, I am surprised that you wanted sex whilst suffering cystitis, however, you do have to be very careful when on the pill, even simple cold remedies can lessen the effect, you may be wise to ask your Pharmacist. Good luck.  (+ info)
