why does pulmonary edema cause hypoxia and cyanosis?

Would like a simple but detailed explanation
----------

pulmonary edema is fluid on the lung. when you breath in you fill your lungs with air. if you breath in and your lungs are filled with fluid you can't get so much air into them which causes less oxygen in the blood. that causes the cyanosis which is the blue tinge because its de-oxygenated blood.

hypoxia is low oxygen in the blood which goes along with not getting oxygen in the blood because the lungs are full of water.  (+ info)

One twin has cyanosis, why not the other? Help!?

My older sister just had twins, a boy and a girl. One of them has cyanosis. Is this normal? Why would only one of them have it? I think it was caused by a heart malfunction.
----------

Blue baby syndrome (or simply, blue baby) is a layman's term used to describe newborns with cyanotic conditions, such as
* Cyanotic heart defects
# Tetralogy of Fallot
# Dextro-Transposition of the great arteries
# Hypoplastic left heart syndrome
# Tricuspid atresia
* Methemoglobinemia
* Respiratory distress syndrome
Echocardiography test may be done.
Consult a pediatric cardiologist.  (+ info)

what is the cause of cyanosis in carpal tunnel syndrome?

cyanosis is little or no oxygen in the blood. CTS is when the median nerve is compressed.
Not getting blood to the area will cause cyanosis and is very dangerous.http://www.havsrm.com/glossary  (+ info)

Paleness and blue colour in people with black skin?

Can a person who has black skin appear to be pale from blood loss or tiredness? And if that person suffers from cyanosis (sometimes the signs are blue lips), can one see it on that persons lips?

Please don't take this the wrong way, a character in my story is black, I'm just not very familiar with how some colorations in white people can appear in someone who's skin is not white. My character has very black skin.
I'd like to be able to depict him properly when suffering from things like exhaustion and injuries.

Thanks!

The lips and nails are a better indication. Lips and mucous membranr are vascular.
There is a change of colour you can see if you know the person, but a better indication is their demeanor,  (+ info)

cyanosis in children?

can cyanosis come in go with a child who has a heart problem
if so can it last 30 mins and go away for 2 hours and come back for an hur then go away again
----------

It can come and go, but any cyanosis is a sign of a deeper problem there and that the child isn't oxygenating well which can rob precious blood and oxygen from some vital organs as the body will shunt the blood to the heart and brain and pull it from everywhere else to do so. I'd have it checked out with the child's cardiologist ASAP.  (+ info)

Causes of cyanosis (blueness) of feet?

My feet are staying cold and blue all the time, I have a mild form of hypoglycemia but my feet were not staying blue when i was diagnosed with that,could this be diabetes or something? If not what would it be, and how can i fix it?
----------

Cyanosis is not enough blood getting to that part of the body. Diabetes can cause hypertension and poor circulation and then usually causes hypoxia to the lower extremities. There are other causes of the blueness to your feet. I would see you doctor, big surprise there, and in the mean time try and keep circulation moving down there. Walking, those airplane leg exercises, message all can help with that.  (+ info)

Cyanosis of legs in 7 month old...?

Ok so ever since my daughter was born she has had cyanosis of her legs and arms. The arm part of it went away but the legs continue to turn. They only turn if she is being held and her legs are kinda dangling, or in her walker, or something to that extend where her legs are dangling.When she was born she had a heart murmur. This has been watched very closely and recently just seen a cardiologist whom said she was an innocent murmur.An EKG was performed and that was normal. An echocardiogram was also performed and the came back normal as well. I will be scheduling now an appt to do an ultrasound of her lower extremities to check for clots and if that come back normal he is referring me to a rheumatologist. She does not seem like she is in pain when this happens and like wise she is a very happy baby. She does love to move/kick her legs and she rolls her feet in circles alot too.Sorry so long just wanted to get in as much information as i could.I am just looking to see if anyone else has or is going through this and maybe to broaden my horizons a little more to see if there is other things i should check into. Thanks so much
You just made me think of another thing to add...when she is wearing socks and this happens it is almost like her circulation is being cut off and her legs kinda swell up around the top of the sock even though they are big socks on her.....and another thing is that she could be as warm as can be and when they turn they are also freezing cold...we massage them and they go back to norm....

Causes of cyanosis that disappears/reappears?

Symptoms:
Cyanosis- knuckles, soles of feet, lips, palm of hand (by thumb), nail beds- intermittent over 3 days, worse with cold temperatures (can literally watch skin change color). No pain- some blue color wipes off with alcohol on hands/feet only to return within 30 minutes and is able to be wiped off again. NO contact with anything blue/black/etc during this period.
Dizziness when SITTING, worsened with head movement and laughing.
CBC, Chem 6, Carbon Monoxide, all wnl. Vitals all wnl. Symptoms present in two members of same household- second member has had symptoms for 36 hours now. Ideas??
OK, a Dr has been seen (hence knowing the vitals and labs all WNL)- three ER docs have been consulted, as well as the family doc and all are baffled. Day four and symptoms not resolving... they have no idea what is causing it. Just looking for ideas "outside the box."
Thanks for the details on cyanosis, but as an ER NP I am well aware :)

what can be the possible causes of cyanosis?

see i was surprised when i suddenly noticed that i had a mild case of cyanosis this morning.. i just noticed that my fingerpads were a light shade of cyan/bluish green.. not really deep blue.. but still disturbing.. haha.. how is this so?

is it because i lack sleep? yesterday i woke up at about 2pm in the afternoon and i was up all night until today.. i only noticed the discoloration on my fingers this morning.. they're almost gone now, only a slight tinge of blue left.. barely visible.. but the bluish color lasted all morning, for a few hours.. can sleep deprivation eventually cause hypoxia of some sort? cause i don't know if it does.. haha..

although i had only been sleepless for a night, a week ago, i was sleepless for about two nights straight, with only naps of about an hour each night.. if that helps.. lol..

so.. theories anyone? or better, any diagnoses coming to mind? haha.. i'd really appreciate anything.. my curiosity about it is killing me just about now.. lol..

thanks a lot guys.. ; )
