Are these features of Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder/Social Anxiety?

-correcting yourself for every little mistake made, say you're trying to describe something and you use the wrong word to describe it so you go back and repeat the sentence using the correct word and you do this repeatedly and excessively throughout a conversation, making it difficult to get your thoughts out

-someone asks you a question and you don't know how to answer it but you're afraid of admitting it, so you pause or use verbal pauses for a long time before finally answering.

- ruminating repeatedly and excessively about your every mistake and viewing yourself in a rigid and/or perfectionistic way

I was diagnosed today with mixed personality disorder of avoidant & obsessive-compulsive type.Is my life over?

I feel like my life has ruined by this and I'll never be able to work or have meaningful relationships with other people ever again =(
----------

No.... you are the same person you were before the diagnosis and your life wasn't over then was it?
Don't pay too much attention to labels, they mean very little.
1 in 4 people have mental health problems at different stages in there life so you're actually quite normal really! :)
Also, most people on the planet could be labelled as having some sort of personality disorder I am sure of it.
Your personality disorders seem fine, there are much worse ones out there, believe me!
I'm a complete neat freak, perfectionist type but its part of me and I don't worry about it. Its just part of what makes you, you!  (+ info)

How can being raised by a mother with obessive compulsive personality disorder affect children.?

Is a OCPD mother always going to be verbally & emotionally abusive. What is the best way as a adult to ex-clude her from your life and correst the damamge inside the child who had years of this mothers mental torture.
----------

Not all OCD mothers are mentally and emotionally abusive, though a good portion of them can be (because of personal problems stemming from their OCD usually.)

These children need to see a psychologist NOT because of the OCD behavior of the mother but because of the verbal and emotional abuse.

People watching these children also need to be careful that they get help as soon as they can because these children can continue with a vicious cycle that their mother had started.

If you are a victim of this, I ask you to please see a psychologist or your local therapist. I doubt you need medication so don't let them fool you into that (unless you really do suspect yourself of truly having a mental problem.) You need someone to talk to and help you get over these distortions with therapeutic work before it takes hold of you/anybody else and hurts them.  (+ info)

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder?

What does it mean when people say that OCD, and OCPD have to keep you from performing daily activities? I have practically every symptom of OCD and OCPD, but if I went to a doctor they'd say that I don't classify because it doesn't severely affect my life.
Is it true that if it doesn't severly affect your life, then you don't have it?
----------

Lots of people could say they have features of one or both. It's not considered a mental disorder unless it causes significant problems in your life.

For example, I have a hang up with numbers, I like to count things, or spell words on my fingers. But it doesn't take up so much of my time that I can't get my work done, eat, pay bills, or whatever. If it did, then maybe it would be considered a disorder; OCD.

I also have a hang up about making lists of things for no apparent reason. If I was very insistent that other people had to follow my list in the exact order, and I was so insistent that I couldn't get along with anybody, then it might be considered severe enough to be Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder.  (+ info)

Would you date someone with obsessive personality compulsive disorder? Why or why not?

Sorry, I meant obsessive-compulsive personality disorder.

It all depends in the severity of the symptoms and if the person is under treatment. I know people with mental illness that can lead a normal productive life. So it al depends  (+ info)

I have severe Obsessive compulsive personality disorder and depression. How should i treat the personality?

i am treating the depression but the root cause of my depression is the OCPD. what should i do to treat THAT?
----------

Assuming you mean OCPD and not OCD (as they are distinct diagnoses), there is no real treatment for the personality disorder, however your specialist should be able to advise you on how to deal with the effects so that you are able to focus on overcoming your other problems and maintaining a healthy and happy life  (+ info)

Can someone FURTHER explain what is COMPULSIVE PERSONALITY DISORDER w/ NARCISSISTIC & HISTRIONIC TRAITS?

I went thru a psychiatrict test 4 years ago for annulment purposes, but the doctor's explanation was not that clear. If this is a serious case, then i should not marry my current boyfriend because i don't want him to worry & suffer from my own kind of illness. And if this is incurable, then i should stay a single parent for life. I am already divorced 3years ago.

Here are some web sites. Also, I listed the link to a search I conducted. Hope this helps.  (+ info)
