How do I control obsessive compulsive personality disorder in myself?

I thought I had obsessive compulsive disorder but it turns out to be OCPD. I expect to much from my girlfriend friends and family and I want it to stop especially for my girlfriend. I know Im putting a lot of stress on her and pushing her away and I want to stop. She has put up with it for 5 months now and I know she loves me for dealing with me. Its going to be hard for me to stop because she doesnt make it easy with some of the things she does but I need to get my problem out of the way so I can rationally deal with our problems. Thank You.

You need to get help first but also you need to let her know that it is not her and that you can't help yourself and that you're trying. But if you say that to her and you just keep just doing what you're doing people can take so much with out you helping yourself. You have to make a move to show you love them enough to help you. I'm not trying to be mean to you but I am a person with a illness and I to had to go get help to show the one I love that i to loved them. Sometimes loving ourselfs is more love to them then love we give them if you know what I mean so please go get it before you lose something you might look back on and hate yourself for later.  (+ info)

what is the difference between obsessive-compulsive personality TRAITS and DISORDER?

My doctor said i have obsessive-compulsive personality traits, is this the same with obsessive-compulsive personality disorder?
----------

The traits and the disorder are not the same thing. If you have a personality with obsessive traits, it means that you may be too orderly, or pay too much attention to detail, or worry too much about something that happened in the past, etc.
If you had the disorder, you would have obsessions and/or compulsions all the time and you would be extremely distressed and could not lead a normal life.

Did you ever watch that movie "As Good as It Gets"? That guy suffered from obsessive-compulsive disorder.  (+ info)

2. in ocd the patient has insight but obsessions are too strong to control

ocd=monk from tv show tx=1st ssri then clomiprimine then tca's  (+ info)

What's the difference between obsessive compulsive disorder and obsessive compulsive personality disorder?

Can someone suffer from both at the same time?
----------

There is a big difference... I'm not sure if you can suffer from both at the same time or not... though I don't think so.

I think you should go to WebMD and look them both up. That will give you a better idea. :)  (+ info)

What wouldObsessive–compulsive personality disorder (OCPD) is killing me! Can someone PLEASE you like to ask?

I have OCPD and perfectionism causes me extreme anxiety in my everyday life. I always have thoughts about how I can be more "perfect". Its like no matter what I do, its never enough! I am often described (by friends and family) as insensitive, self-centered, selfish, manipulative, and controlling, and how my perfectionism interferes with doing-getting things done. It is HARSH. I don't have money for Therapy and all that, but How can I deal with this? :-(
----------

I have pulled one of my healthy teeth just to attack that perfectionist approach.
Now I haven't got one of my teeth. I am not perfect now. And can't do anything about that.
I must get used to that.  (+ info)

How to cope when your spouce has obsessive compulsive personality disorder?

My husband has OCPD. It is getting more and more difficult to deal with him. He refuses to go for help. Just everyday things are such a production. It's destroying our marriage and I really don't know what to do at this point. Is there anyone here who lives with a person who has OCPD that could give me some advice?
----------

We coped we made a list of all the concerns every morning we then had an agreement on what could be afforded and stored and where and how, about the days food and medicine and regarding the pets and plants and chores laundry and yard.

Then we made a priory list.

Then we shared the chores all of them and when we went out i volunteered to do all the checking and promised to check all windows and door locks this way it only had to be dpne onnce and no worry while out.
I did not try to be logical I just said ok give me a list and ill do it

Took 4 hrs a day to do the lists and keep a record. Every bite of food was recorded also every piece of mail and every phone call
Several journals were kept.

I did nt have a problem with any of this. I did whatever out of Love and concern  (+ info)

What is the treament of obsessive compulsive personality disorder ?

Medications such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (for example, Prozac) may help reduce obsessions and compulsions. Cognitive-behavioral therapy may also help, and medications in combination with talk therapy may be more effective than either treatment alone.  (+ info)
