Does Anyone Know About, Mastoiditis?

Ive Recently Had A CT Scan Done On The Temporal Bones Of My Head... The Conclusion Was:

Nonspecific Opacification of the middle ear cavities, paticularly involving the attics.
There is also opacification of the mastoid aircells.
features would be compatible with bilateral otitis media and mastoiditis. it is not possible to exclude other pathology such as cholesteatoma.

Can Anyone Help Me OnThis?? I Cant Seem To Find Anything About It Elsewhere.. :-(
----------

Mastoiditis is an infection of the mastoid bone of the skull.

Otitis media (also known as glue ear) is an inflammation of the middle ear segment of the ear. It is usually associated with a buildup of fluid and frequently causes an earache. The fluid may or may not be infected.

A cholesteatoma is a skin growth that occurs in an abnormal location, the middle ear behind the eardrum. It is usually due to repeated infection, which causes an ingrowth of the skin of the eardrum.

I'm really of depressed about this, can you help?

When I was 9 I had a cholesteatoma (a malignant growth of skin behind the ear drum) and had to have it removed. However, the cholesteatoma had spread down to my facial nerve and partially paralyzed the right side of my face. 5 years later (do the math) it still hasn't gotten better, even though the nerve in my face was replaced with one from my leg. I understand it takes time for the nerves to reconnect, but 5 years?!?! Seriously, this is severely damaging my social life. I am what most people would call "attractive," but that would be ignoring the right side of my face. I seriously can't smile. I want to be able to look like a normal person again. I don't want to look like I just had a f*cking stroke. I don't know how to deal with this. Does anybody have similar circumstances? Can you help me out here?
sorry theres a typo in the question.

hey don't be depressed although this may be destroying ur social life this is'nt long term and ur only 14 so u have the rest of ur life to socialise with people so although it may be taking long to get better u have to be patient and give it some time it wll eventually get better! and during the time u r taking to get better during that time u will be able to know who r the people who really care about u and who are the people who love u becuz of who u are and not becuz of what u look like and trust me u'll really be able to define who hate you, care about u and who really really loves u and who really thinks ur attractive although u have this problem so imagine if ur attractive now ur be even more handsome when u get better! serious ear problem...Help.?

OKay, so heres the deal. I am 20 years old. In year 2006 I had major ear surgery. I was 17 at the time so I went to a childrens hospital. Anyways, I had a cholesteatoma in my right here. So they had to perform surgery. Well when they went in to do my ear, they found poision on my brain barrier. And they told my mother that if I wouldnt have came a week later I would have died. Well NOW i am 20, 3 years later my left ear is starting up again. The reason I know it is doing it is cause last time I had discharge coming out and it smells really nasty. My ear is starting to hurt and the whole day today all I heard was swushing in my right ear. And im really dizzy. The question is, what do I do? I know the answer is to go see a doctor, but they use this tool that goes into your ear and its like a huge metal rod, and it hurts. I just need encouragement and help understanding that this is serious, and if anyone else has gone through this, or knows anyone that has, and what happend. Please and also please pray for me. For healing of my ear. I am just so scared and nervous...

thank you everyone,
God Bless

Lexie, please don't wait to see a doctor. I realize the instruments can sometimes be painful, but it is a short lived pain. You'll be better for it in the long run. You don't want to have this pain and dizziness forever, do you?
I wish I could go to the doctors with you, if only to hold your hand and comfort you, but please know that you are in my prayers. I ask that God shows you His healing power and relieves you of this painful burden. In Jesus name, I pray...  (+ info)

ear medical advice help?

i used to have a cholesteatoma and had surgery to rmove it and it came back again and i lost my ear drum bone. so they put a glass one in since ear drums never grow ? well im now 15 and my ear hurts at times and i get this loud ringing in my ear and i cant hear anything from that ear for a while like its pluged up. does anyone know what that might mean ? could it have come back? or could the glass bone brake? i also have hearing loss in that ear so i use a hearing aid but when i use it it seems liek its harder to hear and my other ear is pluged is that normal ?
i just got my hearing aid like a couple of months ago and i barly use it cause it hurts my ear and they said it was the smalles tip thing they had for it. plus it dosent seem to help
----------

None of these things sound good. Given that you had surgery, it's definitely possible that you are suffering from complications from the surgery. But considering that you are 15, it's possible that your body is growing and the changes could be affecting your ear. Pain, ringing in the ear and hearing loss are all bad things that I think you should have checked out.

They could all possibly be fixed if you go see your doctor. They could all get worse and lead to more problems if you don't do anything about it.

It may be time for a new hearing aid too.  (+ info)

Dying during surgery?

On May 28 I am having Cholesteatoma (beigne tumor) removed from my ear and some parts of the bone. I know there always risks to surgeries. And I was sure to jump on the surgery when he showed me my CT scans because he said it could kill me later down the road, left side facial paralaysis menegitis brain abcess, but now as it is getting closer I am getting scared and panic attacks. Like not waking up from the surgery. Its a 5 hour surgery. And the thought of it terrifies me not being able to see him again. Are there any good ways to look at it, I just need some support I guess to get over fears or reassurance. Thanks.
well I have had this problem for a while now. and it just got worse with the tumor growing. I have been to several doctors and they all said the same thing, if I dont fix it, it will just get worse. I am going to a top hospital in Maryland Johns Hopkins.

Do your research on the procedure. Check out the doctor and see how many of these surgeries he has performed. Get a second opinion. When you get all the answers to those questions, take a look at your little boy and say I am doing this for US.  (+ info)

How long does the pain of surgery last?

On tuesday Jan. 6th 2009 I had a serious Cholesteatoma removed from my ear, They aslo had to rebuild my ear bones and perfofrm a tympanamastoidectomy. the day of it wasn't so bad how ever it has been 5 days and the pain is unbearable!!! Plus there is exessive draing and a really foul odor coming from my ear canal, When I called my doctore he just said the pain is normal. I am not the brightest light bulb in the box but shouldn't it be getting better-not worse. Has anyone out there had surgery like this How long will this last. I am scared that something may have went wrong,
----------

Call the doc back and tell him that you need something stronger for pain, when is the earliest that you can get into the office to be checked out.
You pay this dude a lot of money, so he/she needs to listen to you. Your pain is your pain and he needs to respond to it. As to the drainage- if he/she isn't concerned and won't respond to your request for pain relief, go back to the hospital where you had surgery and ask them to page the doctor on call for your doc's practice.

How long will your pain last? Hopefully, it will start to diminish soon. Do remember that your surgery was pretty extensive, and is in a very bony area, which means that any swelling is in a very tiny space, making it hurt more than it would in another place.

Good luck
The doc on call will hate that, but in the meantime, you'll be as a medical facility.
The best response from the doc is to help you with pain meds, and have you call the office to come in tomorrow to get seen for the nasty drainage. Even if the doc doesn't say call to be seen tomorrow, if you do not go to the hospital tonight, call the office and insist that someone see you ASAP.
These are your patient rights; you pay for the service, you have the right to be comfortable and assured of what is going on.  (+ info)

Is there an ENT/otologist in greater London willing to help a damsel in distress?

I started court proceeding for medical neglegence in October. I had an infection for 1.5 yrs. I received many prescriptions which didn't help. I then developed cholesteatoma. When removed 2 ossicles had erroded & now I have tinnitus. The c'toma has returned once. I'm due an op in June to see if it's returned again. I believe if it had been spotted earlier some damage could've been prevented. I have until the 14th of this month to submit a case to court. I went with a no win no fee solicitor. They didn't charge me, but I did pay £900 for a medical report and to start court proceedings. The report wasn't supportive, but has discrepancies. I am sure medical neglegence took place. I can't afford to pay for another report and there's not enough time. I would travel to you with my medical records and go through the case in a few hours. If I win I'd pay you for the report. Please, I'd really appreciate if someone would spare me a few hrs . This is badly affecting my life. Thanks so much.

Is this a normal Ear infection?

My Right ear was operated on three years ago to remove a tumor called a Cholesteatoma. My hearing has never been the same since the diagnosis of the tumor. Recently my ear started feeling funny, like it was full of fluid. I cleaned it out with a Q-tip... and then another one... and then another one until I had used about ten Q-tips, both ends... and they were all covered with this slimy, stinky, brown (with white chunks) stuff that smelled like baby poop. So my question is...
is this a regular ear infection? I don't think so... but how worried should i be?
