in every newborn with biliary atresia how long they will live?

That depends on the quality of medical care they receive. If you have good insurance and a good doctor then the child will live longer. Liver transplants can lead to a normal life for the child once the artresia has settled in. Most will die if no transplant is available.

I hope you arent talking about your own child -- and if so I will hope that everything goes well for you and the child.  (+ info)

HAS anyone had a baby with duodenal atresia?

i will get results 2mrrow if my baby has down syndrome or not from my amnio test just wondering has any one had a baby with duodenal atresia but did not have down syndrome is that a possibilty for that my baby could just have duodenal atresia but not downs??? really worried first baby at 19 with no family history of down from either side
----------

I looked up Duodenal Atresia on Wikipedia and it says: "Approximately 20-40% of all infants with duodenal atresia have Down syndrome." So your baby's chances at not having Downs Syndrome are pretty good.

Best of luck to you.  (+ info)

No down syndrome but my baby has Duodenal atresia?

i recently had a amnio test and they said everything is normal which was a HUGE RELIEF! but now iam just wondering what happens now? the only reason i had a amino test was cause they saw duodenal atresia in bubs stomach and may of been related to downs but now there is no downs so what happens next??
----------

Amnio is greater than 99% accurate, so you're right, your baby doesn't have Down syndrome.

What they probably saw on the ultrasound was what's called a "double bubble" sign. This means that they're seeing two air-filled sacs in the baby's abdomen that are a sign of some kind of obstruction or constriction in the lower intestinal tract. This is seen in many babies who don't have Down syndrome, but is seen more often in babies who do have Down syndrome. Which basically means that if they see this, the risk for the baby to have Down syndrome goes up, and that's why you were offered amnio. But it's entirely possible for the baby to have some kind of duodenal atresia or similar defect without having Down syndrome or any other problems.

What happens next is up to both you and your doctor. Your OB may consider another ultrasound or two. It's up to your OB to decide if it's needed or not. If it turns out that your baby does have duodenal atresia, he or she will very likely need a surgery after birth to repair it. And make sure the baby's pediatrician knows about this and does a thorough check up for any other problems after birth.

If you have any other questions, make sure to discuss them with your doctor too. They're the ones who actually have all the test results and know the most about your case. They'll also be able to refer you to anybody else who may be able to help.  (+ info)

my child[almost 5 months] has biliary atresia and it is now late for kasai. what do we do?

can a child live till old age with liver transplant?
----------

Go to www.liverfamilies.net for families of children with liver disease. You will find a huge amount of support there, and others who understand, and have some answers to your questions.
My son had Biliary Atresia, failed Kasai. Liver transplant at 7 months old. He's now 5 years old and doing wonderfully. SO normal. It is possible. With out Kasai or transplant, it is not. I wish you the very best. Angus' Mum.  (+ info)

Had an ultrasound at 23 wks, told baby may have fetal stomach distension(duedenal atresia) scared, any advice?

told it may be gastric outlet obstuction, duodenal atresia.
----------

If you didn't have a level 2 ultrasound, my advice would be to get one and ask the perinatologist to explain what the condition means for you and your baby. They should be very helpful.  (+ info)

Has anyone had a baby with Duodenal Atresia? ?

I am 32 weeks pregnant and have been trying to go into preterm labor for a while. They just discovered the baby may have duodenal atresia. This is the first I have ever heard of this condition. I would like to see if anyone has went through this and if they did how it turned out. We are going to get a special sonogram to confirm this on Friday! I need some kind of direction. I am just devastated that there is something wrong with our baby. What do we need to expect?
