Chickenpox?

Why don't Chickenpox spreads like common fever ?. Does it mean that those who have higher body defence system overcome chickenpox ? Also heard it wont affect those who once underwent chickenpox.
----------

My daughter who is now 17 had the classic chicken pox at 2 yrs 9 months. She had not had the vaccine because it was new and I had planned on having her vaccinated at her next check up. Within the next 3 yrs she had chicken pox 3 more times. There are 43 types of chicken pox so after her 4th bout (thankfully none were serious) she was vaccinated and hasn't had them since.

My son (3 yrs old) was vaccinated very young and has never had them.

My older brother (46) has had chicken pox (different types) 6 times in his life and his doctor says that the vaccine won't help him.

It does spread quickly but most often people just feel run down, slight fever and don't have any noticeable skin changes. One type my daughter had she had tiny white bumps on her ankles and feet and a fever and no appetite. I took her to the doctor for the fever that was 101 and no appetite and the doctor noticed the bumps. Most people don't even realize they have it. Once you have one specific type you will not get that type again.  (+ info)

What are the symptoms of chickenpox?
Chickenpox begins with a fever, followed in a day or two by a rash that can be very itchy. The rash starts with red spots that soon turn into fluid-filled blisters. Some people have only a few blisters. Others can have as many as 500. These blisters dry and form scabs in 4 or 5 days.

You will be contagious until all of your blisters have scabbed over. If the above mentioned lotions and baths are not helping you then try to get some Eurax Cream from your pharmasist (sold over the counter). It is the only cream I found that helped my itchy itchy kids when they were younger and had the pox - now as older we all use it for bug bites that itch like crazy because its the only product we have found that works.  (+ info)

ChickenPox?

You all know that garlic is natural antibiotic right? Well my baby sister got chickenpox (im 16) and now im gona get it bcoz i've neva had it BUT only in about a week and half time though. Do u think if i eat alot of garlic for like lets maybe a week and half i wont get chickenpox bcoz my body will have many anti-bodies fightin those pox viruses???

reasonable answers PLEASE...
----------

Garlic won't stop it. :O(

Also the chicken pox vaccine isn't 100% I have known many children who have gotten the chicken pox on top of already having the vaccine - most cases are mild but in some it's been rough. So it's not a fool proof vaccine -

Hopefully you will be spared and look in to the shot if you have been -  (+ info)

What is your opinion regarding the chickenpox vaccine for children here in the UK?

If I understand correctly the chickenpox vaccine is not available here ROUTINELY in the UK. Part of the reason given by the NHS is that exposure to chickenpox can bolster shingles immunity for adults.

1. Is this a good policy in the eyes of medical experts? Are there any Doctors, Nurses, Health Professionals who can give their opinion - I would be very interested? Do you think it should be offered routinely as part of the child's regular immunisations?

2. Can I still request the vaccine for my child at my GP?
----------

Hi there, that's right. The chicken pox vaccine is not given as a part of routine childhood vaccinations in the UK as it is in the USA- this is something that may change in the near future, I have heard they want to add it to the MMR.

Although the vaccine isn't given routinely, it is still available in the UK- contrary to popular belief. There are two vaccines- Varivax and Varilrix.

I don't really see the need for the chicken pox vaccination to be honest. Although chicken pox is symptomatically horrid, there is very minimal risk to health in children. The other childhood vaccinations are justifiable because the illness it protects from can be a big risk to health.

You may be able to request the vaccination for your child, some GPs may give it. They may ask you to pay for it. If this is the case they cost around £27-30 and some GPs/practise Nurses may charge a fee to administer it  (+ info)

Can you get chickenpox from someone who just received the shingles vaccine?

My husband and I are visiting my mother in-law next week. We just found out that she received the shingles vaccine this past weekend. We are supposed to stay with her at her house for the next two weeks and neither my husband or I have had chickenpox. Can we get the chickenpox if we stay with her or be around her? Should I be looking at staying at a hotel now?
----------

According to the shingles vaccine package insert, "Transmission of vaccine virus may occur rarely between vaccinees and susceptible contacts." http://www.fda.gov/downloads/BiologicsBloodVaccines/Vaccines/ApprovedProducts/UCM132831.pdf

There's a good chance you're already immune to chickenpox, though. I thought I had never had it, but I got a blood test that showed full immunity.  (+ info)

How can you remove chickenpox spots from your face and body?

I had chickenpox since this March and of course it was really itchy and now, the bursted spots of chickenpox are all over my face and my body! They look quite ugly to me.Please help!
Thank You
----------

as long the chicken pox bursted spots are not result as scar yet, all u need just take care of it ( dont scratch it ) and give some ointment to dry it full ( no redness is the sign ) then patiently wait till it tear it self.
chicken pox bursted spot is deep inside skin and flesh.
so healing need time to back to before.
trust me.
i m sure u never experience my sorrow when i got chicken pox when i still got exam and need to wear mask to avoid scarying people there.maybe people still will assume something wrong when i using mask, but at least they not see my face at that time.,  (+ info)

what does the beginning stages of chickenpox look like in a toddler?

My 2 year old was exposed to chickenpox 2 weeks ago and today I noticed two red splotchy spots above his left nipple and three TINY red acne looking spots on his belly. None seem to be itching, he has no fever, is acting fine otherwise. He has had the chickenpox vaccine as well.
----------

if the spots continue to come throughout the next few weeks than yes it probably is chicken pox
it wont come overnight and it takes time to develop so the fever would come a little later when there is more spots
just keep an eye out  (+ info)

What is the difference between chickenpox and smallpox?

What is the difference between chickenpox and smallpox?
----------

Chickenpox is caused by the Varicella-Zoster virus. It's a much milder disease that usually presents with vesicular rash on the trunk of the person. Kids who get infected with the chickenpox have a generally milder disease than older adolescents and adults. Unfortunately, this virus is able to go latent and reactivate later when a person's immune system is suppressed, resulting in a condition called shingles.

Smallpox on the other hand, is a much more severe and deadly disease. It primarily presents with vesicular rash on the limbs and head rather than the trunk. One of the problems with smallpox is that it has a much longer period where the person can infect others before the onset of symptoms. Smallpox infects only humans and so as a result, the vaccine against it had completely irradicated the disease, which is why it's not really a significant disease today.

One of the ways to differentiate between whether a person has chickenpox and smallpox is by looking at the condition of the rashes. Chickenpox will generally present with rashes on the trunk that look different from each other. Some will look smaller, others look larger and vesicular, and some even dried and scarring. Smallpox, on the other hand, will have lesions that all look like they're the same "age", looking idential to each other.  (+ info)
