hello :) you are doing the exact thing you should be doing, you have to keep heat on it, like a tea cup after there has been some hot tea in it, or a warm towel, just keep it resting on top of your eye lid 4-5 times a day, and keep doing that for a few days, it should just end up going away on its own, it may take a week or so for it to be gone completely but just make sure to keep the heat on there it will help with decreasing the size :) don't worry i get this sometimes too!
best of luck :) i hope it goes away soon :D  (+ info)

what doctor should i go see to get a Stye/Chalazion removed from my eye?

I have had one for a while, and guess it's about time to get it removed. problem is that i don't really know what type of doctor to consult with.
yeah, i've tried it all, even went to a doctor to get cream. i just really need to go to a doctor to get it removed at this point; so which doctor to go?
----------

I used to get styes all the time then recently i got a HUGE one and i went to the GPs and he said it was a myobial cyst i think.,,, he said just leave it or you can get surgery if you want...

About 3 days later it was gone.

Try boiled water with salt dissolved in it then let it cool and dab it on your eye. Dont rub/poke or it'l just get worse or spread!

Edit: Dont rub a stye  (+ info)

How much does a Chalazion removal surgery cost?

with or without health insurance?

i just need an estimate so i have an idea.. haven't talked to my doctor yet..

i need answers from people who have done the surgery..
----------

At least a 1000.00 but its best to negotiate with the doctor before hand check around and get prices especially if you dont have health insurance. If you do have insurance what is your deductible and have you met that yet. Ask and you shall receive.  (+ info)

A pair of tinted or even sunglasses would hide it from view.  (+ info)

I took my daughter to the ophthalmologist to cauterize a chalazion. Is this a common procedure?

It happened a week ago. Her eye still is a little swollen.
----------

some chalazions are treated that way if it doesnt respond to warm compress and antiotics. if a qualified ophthalmologist has done it, then there's no questioning him i guess. and yeah... it will take some time for it to heal.  (+ info)

what kind of doctor should I contact for a sty or chalazion?

I want it off my face now.
----------

Not sure what a chalazion is, but you don't need to see a doctor for a stye. There's nothing they will really do for it, just tell you that you have to wait for it to go away. There's over the counter stye gels at the drug store, but even those don't help much and are more for alleviating the pain, not shortening the duration. If you're worried about it and think it may be worse than a stye you should see an Opthamologist  (+ info)

Can a chalazion become cancerous?

I have two chalazion’s on my right eyelid and I have been treated with steroid injections. Unfortunately, the size of chalazion has not decreased and the size is compressing my eye, and blurring my vision.
----------

A chalazion, also known as a Meibomian gland lipogranuloma, is a cyst in the eyelid that is caused by inflammation of the meibomian gland, usually on the upper eyelid. Chalazions differ from hordeolums in that they are usually painless apart from the tenderness caused when they swell up. A chalazion may eventually disappear on its own after a few months, though more often than not, some treatment is necessary.

Signs and symptoms
Painful swelling on the eyelid
Eyelid tenderness
Sensitivity to light
Increased tearing

Treatment

The primary treatment is application of warm compresses for 10 - 20 minutes at least 4 times a day. This may soften the hardened oils blocking the duct and promote drainage and healing.

Topical antibiotic eye drops or ointment (eg chloramphenicol or fusidic acid) are sometimes used for the initial acute infection, but are otherwise of little value in treating a chalazion. Chalazia will often disappear without further treatment within a month or so.

If they continue to enlarge or fail to settle within a few months, they may be surgically removed using local anesthesia. This is usually done from underneath the eyelid to avoid a scar on the skin. Rarely chalazia may reoccur and these will be biopsied to help rule out tumors.

Complications

A large chalazion can cause astigmatism due to pressure on the cornea. This will resolve with resolution of the chalazion.

Prevention

Proper cleansing of the eyelid may prevent recurrences in people prone to chalazia. Cleaning the eyelash area with diluted baby shampoo will help reduce clogging of the ducts.  (+ info)

I am having chalazion cut in my eye lid tomorrow?

Anyone had this done? Will I be OK to come back to work on Monday? I will wear eye patch only on the day of the surgery but will be putting antibiotic cream in the eye for 5 days and was told by the consultant that I need to take extra care to protect myself from infections in the days following surgery. I work in an office so nothing overly dusty, but am I risking going in two days after the operation? What would you do?
----------

The recovery time for this is short, so you should be fine. Of course if you feel differently after the procedure then you shouldn't feel bad about taking extra time. Another post mentioned that antibiotics would have taken care of this, which is simply false. That person confused a chalazion, which is a sterile cyst, with a hordeolum, which is infected. The only other option for a chronic chalazion is a steroid injection, which has lower efficacy especially on larger or older cysts. The surgery is minor and quick.  (+ info)
