How much for a cyst/chalazion removal and initial exam?

I had a sty that I think turned into a cyst or is a chalazion. I have had it for nearly two months and want to get it removed. I do not have insurance nor much money and wondering what the total cost including exam and removal is going to cost me.

have you thought to ask the actual doctor about how much he charges......that would be my starting point anyway  (+ info)

What is the approx cost of Chalazion removal here in England, if this were done through a private doctor?

I have 2 small cysts on the inside of my lower left eyelid. I am returning home to England for 2-3 months from the United States (I am a British citizen) I wanted to know that if I were to do the chalazion removal through a private doctor, how much would the average cost be and the wait time for a small surgical procedure such as this? Please help. Thank you

Hi there,

You are looking at around £250 - £300 for the surgery. Procedure is over in a matter of minutes, eye is patched up for a day or so. There are however a few concerns with proceeding to treatment:

1. Have you been prescribed with cream - typically G Chloramphenicol to use at night? If not, then immediate surgery is unlikely.
2. Chalazion removal is very rarely a successful procedure over the long term, cysts often reform. You cannot have a procedure every few months!

There is also little benefit to having the surgery done if the factors causing the cysts are not altered. Establishing why you have a pre-disposition to chalazions would be most useful in combatting their regrowth.  (+ info)

What does removing a chalazion involve?

My son has to get 2 chalazion's removed and he's scared and we don't know what's going to happen. Anyone have any info they can share?
----------

Well, depending on the location (closeness to the eye), the surgeon will make a small incision on each side to remove each one. A local anesthetic will be used to limit pain, and recovery will likely be several weeks. But , without treatment, they can take a very long time to resolve.
It's best to have them excised or removed, but scarring in/on the inside of the eyelid can also be a problem in recovery.
Also, the tissue that is removed can be biopsied to verify benign status...  (+ info)

How long will your eye be sore after chalazion surgery?

I had Chalazion Surgery last week, and my eye is still sore. There is also still a fair amount of redness. Is this normal? and how long does it last?
----------

Chalazion treatment is quite a rough procedure. Is likely to cause swelling for up to two weeks post treatment. Redness will be related to swelling as well. You should be using an anti-biotic cream still?

Chalazion removal is not always successful and quite often the duct flares up again. Follow your post-op instructions as directed by your surgeon. Ultimately, if you are still unhappy/unsure of how you are healing, then go back to your surgeon for a quick checkup.

Kind regards  (+ info)

Is there any medicine over the counter to treat chalazion?

I have been researching for the bump on my eye and according to what I've read about chalazion I think thats what the bump on my eye is. I have had it for months now. It was getting bigger but I have noticed it has gotten smaller but it hasnt disappeared. It's still there. Is there something I can do to make it dissapear faster? I have tried putting something warm on my eye for a while but I dont know if that has been working.
thanks for the replies! :)

i dont think its a stye because this bump doesnt hurt @ all! I have tried putting warm compresses on my eye and i dont know if it worked but im trying it again :)
----------

I had one of those once. They make a moisturizing ointment that might help dissolve the thing that is plugged up. You could get some of that and also use warm compresses.

I ended up going to the eye doctor to get rid of mine. He gave me some sort of drops and it was gone in a week.  (+ info)

After Chalazion eye surgery how long does it take for the swelling and bruising ot go away?

I had Chalazion surgery 2 days ago and i was wondering how long it will take for the swelling and bruising to go down because it has been the same for the past two days.
----------

I presume it will take a good 5 - 7 days i would of thought for something like that to go down. I'm getting that surgery in a couple of days and really worried about it but i was told it would take about 5 days or so to go back down as i needed to know for work.  (+ info)

I have a Chalazion on my left bottom eye. What to do with that?

I have undergone eye surgery, but the chalazion is still there. 2 months already.
May 12, 06 - Thank you all for the answers. Medications may be good I guess, but my eye doctors told me that I can only use hot cloth on my bottom eye lid or to undertake the surgery to get rid of it...

After the 1st and 2nd surgery, some of the hard stuff on my bottom eye lid remains there, thought it gets a bit smaller. So I am not sure whether the 3rd surgery will help.

I am trying Chinese Medicine now.

I am aged 25-30 and I have never been pregnant before.
It is something hard. Not painful. So, should I not consider the 3rd surgery? I am now struggling.

A Chalazion is not technically a cyst. It is a mass of solidified fluid inside the duct of your eyelid. (like the "sleep" you may sometimes wake up with.)

If you've had surgery (like I had) they most likely explained also that dry eyes can contribute to the problem and one should attempt to SCRUB their eyelids each day to keep them clean. I had this problem. Had them in both eyes, three different times before I learned the combination to keeping them away.

Avoid allergy meds like Allegra that can contribute to dryness. Get yourself a bottle of artificial tears to keep the eyes moist. You'll need to start using warm compresses a few times a day. The warm water on the clothe will add in dissolving the Chalazion. If you can break it down enough the body can expel it. Whatever you do, don't squeeze it like a pimple. This can damage the gland and the duct.

STAY in communication with your Ophthalmologist. Very important. What they tell you is serious. One of mine ruptured the night before the surgery (because I had put it off thinking I would be able to take care of it on my own). That was a mess!

Good luck! I know what a bummer they are.  (+ info)

tea bags work on styes but does it work on chalazion?

im still not sure if i have a stye or a chalazion. but i had a stye before and this time it seems bigger and its already a week without obvious improvement so im assuming its a chalazion.
has anyone tried the teabag thing on chalazion ?
----------

Possibly, treatments and options are similar...

A third of chalazions will resolve themselves and won't need any treatment. However, if your chalazion doesn't go away by itself, there are several treatments available.
Hot compress
A hot compress, followed by an eye massage, may help remove the blockage and release the fluids trapped inside the cyst.  (+ info)
