Is the brain tumor more likely to have developed from nerve tissue or from neuroglia? Why?

A brain tumor is found in a CT scan of Mr. Childs's head. The physician is assuming that it is not a secondary tumor (i.e., it did not spread from another part of the body) because an exhausive workup has revealed no signs of cancer elsewhere in Mr. Childs's body. Is the brain tumor more likely to have developed from nerve tissue or from neuroglia? Why?
----------

The definition of neuraglia is "intense or aching pain that occurs along the course or distribution of a peripheral or cranial nerve" so I tend to think it developed from the cranial nerve tissue itself not from neuraglia.

I assume they know the tumor is malignant, and if it is, it is considered "in situ" meaning the tumor is still in its original spot and has not broken out of its epithelial (outer) wall. Depending on the location of the tumor, that could be good news. Radiation and chemotherapy could very well treat it or perhaps even removal (depending on location).

I wish Mr. Childs the best of luck!  (+ info)

If you have a brain tumor what mostly do you feel around your body or head, or anywhere.?

Brain is the power house of Body. Every thing in the body directly or indirectly depends on Brain.(except Heart which beats individually by SA Node)
So, there are several Nerves arising from Brain(Cranial Nerves) there is CNS,ANS etc
Each have different function and are located in different sites.
Depending upon the site and size of Tumor the prognosis of the condition can be evaluated and so the symptoms.
If tumor pressures over Cranial nerves loss of/malfunction of senses like vision ,smell occurs.
If it is inside Brain centres for control, work, hunger etc may be involved.  (+ info)

If I smell something all of a sudden, do I have a tumor or cancer?

I heard a doctor say "either i smell cookies being baked or i have a tumor some where in my body". Now I am having smelling senses. Should I worry? My twin has had breast cancer.
Thanks everyone. I did look up research on the computer and come up with a link between "brain tumor" and someone smelling something others can't.
Thanks everyone. But, what is interesting is that back in the 60's my father was supposedly diagnosed with having a "brain tumor". My sister works at The Cleveland Clinic, hence this is where she heard the doctors statement.
----------

you mean 'hallucinations?'
not nessecearily. i have so many sensory hallucinations but they are caused by migrane headaches
do u have any other symptoms that could relate it further?
it is rare to have a brain tumour but brain cancer is alot rarer
hope u'r twin is better soon  (+ info)

What is the possibility of having more than one tumor on spine?

I have a atypical hemangioma (not biopsied for firm diagnosis) on C4 vertebral body. What is the possibility of having other tumors elsewhere on my spine?
----------

that is very rare, but it has a 5 percent chance of happening  (+ info)

How many CAT scans and doctors until you know you don't have a tumor?

Alright. In February, they weren't looking for a tumor (this was in the ER), but said my brain was clean.

In June, the doctor ordered a CAT scan because of my TMJ headaches, and wanted to rule out the possibilty of a brain tumor. It was supposed to be with contrast, but the technician said there was no way he could recieve a clearer picture, even with contrast. My results went to the doctor and was normal.
I went to a nuerologist, and he did a little exam and made me squeeze his fingers to make sure niether side of my body was weaker. He said I was fine.

Would it be a waste to get another CAT scan? I want to make sure I'm okay, though I know I'm also obsessed with the possibilty of being sick, and don't want to feed the obsession.

Would the information I stated be enough to show I'm fine?

You have had more than enough tests and consultations to be pretty comfortalble that you don't have a tumour.

I have some questions about brain tumor symptoms?

When you have a tumor headache, does it hurt in one specific spot or in many different spots at different times?

When you feel tumor numbness, is the whole body part numb (eg: whole leg) or a specific part (eg: toe)

Is it easy to get brain tumors from radiography radiations?

Thank you!
----------

First of all, the symptoms of a brain tumor can vary widely due to location and size, so there cannot be totally hard and fast rules clinically.
Physicians are taught that 90% of headaches are self limiting, which means that then end even without treatment or serious result. The headaches which should receive immediate physician attention are those which are of unusual severity, are accompanied by vomiting, visual disturbances, or changes in movement or posture, etc. Even then, these may well be migraine headaches.
The headaches that physicians have the most concern being "space occupying lesion" related, is a frequent morning headache in the frontal region of the cranium.
Although it is possible to have a slightly higher chance of benign or malignant lesions from excessive radiograph exposure, the radiographs of today deliver a relatively small dose, even when repeated.
If you have concerns about this, why not speak to your doctor about headaches, have a neurological exam, and if he/she feels its indicated, have a CT scan or MRI ?
Very best wishes.  (+ info)

Apart from headaches, what are the symptoms of a brain tumor?

I'm 15. How often do symptoms accompany a brain tumor? I have been getting mild pinpointed headaches in various spots on the left side of my head lately, but I have no other symptoms (ie. nasea, vision problems, etc.) What part of my body does the top left side of my brain control? Any info would be helpful! Thanks!!

I am going to the eye doctor in a few weeks, and my general care doctor in a few more weeks. Would the eye doctor be able to detect anything?

How long does it take a human body to die form secondary cancer of bones and lungs no drugs just pain killer?

No chemo no radiation just pain killers.Secondary cancer of the bones, lungs, spine and lymph nodes.Canceris tumor started in the liver. oh by the way two tumors on the liver not just one.
----------

Only an oncologist can properly answer that after a proper diagnosis. The cancer stage is the primary basis for predicting possible death due to systemic failure. At the metastatic stage, a patient will be given a count of threes such that the worst estimate will be 3 months, beyond that, another 3, and further.  (+ info)

my dad has these bumps all over his body, i'm so scared it could be cancer or a tumor. what is it?!?

some are small some are big. he's too scared to go to a doctor, because the results frighten him. ESPECIALLY ME. i'm so frightened. what could they be? & what are the signs of a tumor/cancer?!
----------

There might not be anything to worry about - these could be lipomas, which are fatty tumors: http://familydoctor.org/online/famdocen/home/articles/763.html My father had a couple of these, and these tend to be more common in men.

But unless your father goes to a doctor, he won't know if they're harmless (most likely) or harmful. Even in the event they might be cancerous (or pre-cancerous), there's a far better chance that they can be removed and treated if they're caught early. Waiting only makes them harder to treat because they'll be bigger and more tissue will have to be removed, and recovery time will be longer. Your father might be from an age where "cancer" was usually caught late because of a lack of available screenings and treatments weren't that succesful because of how late it was found, and this is the reason he's afraid to go to the doctor, but things have changed.

I know it can be scary, both for your father and you because you don't know what's going on. But NOT knowing may cause additional stress and affect his health in other ways (poor eating and sleeping, ulcers) and the worry isn't good for you or others in your family.

We aren't able to diagnose what's happening with your father - only a doctor and some medical tests will be able to do that. But if your father wants to do what's best for you and your family, he needs to get this checked out soon.  (+ info)

Do you think there is a relation between the birth of cancer and the thermodynamic of our body?

My theory is that a person gets cancer because their body doesn't produce enough heat, i think there is a relation between the weight of your body and a quantity of heat that the body has to produced . If this relation is not respected you developed cancer. All in all when you don't spend energy that you should do, that you don't make enough sport that your body demands you get tumor, cancer .
Take the example of Lance amstrong riding 7times at the tour de France has made his body producing much heat and i suppose destroying his cancerous cell .
----------

That's not much backing evidence. The fact is genetic mutations are the heart of cancer genesis. Mutations can occur in cells regardless of the temperature. Mutagens occur naturally like tobacco and artificially with chemicals. Radiation and viruses are other sources of genetic mutations which may cause cancer.

There is cancer in every race and species on Earth.  (+ info)
