is there a home remedy for a carotid artery?

something to take to keep arteries clear, have one carotid artery in right side of neck.
----------

You have a carotid artery in each side of your neck. HAVING them is very normal....but having clogged carotids can eventually kill you, so it's not something you want to try to fix at home. The word "carotid" is the name of the artery, not a condition.  (+ info)

Carotid Artery is blocked and has a lump, what is this?

My dad had a stroke,8months ago, his right carotid artery was repaired and the left side has a great amount of blockage and could not be repaired. He had a bypass at the same time the right side was repaired. His left carotid has developed some pain, swelling and a knot in the area just below the ear. His blood pressure and sugar are under control. What could this be? Another stroke?

What happens when a carotid artery gets nicked?

Just doing some research...so what happens when a carotid artery gets nicked? How deep does the cut have to be before it becomes life threatening? What is the first-aid step into caring for a person whose artery is cut (before being rushed to the hospital, that is)? What might be the symptoms (clammy skin, shaking, etc...) a person goes through when something like that happens? How long do they have before they die? Any info would be extremely helpful! Thanks! :)
----------

The carotid artery supplies the head and neck with oxygenated blood, this artery is a vital artery and if cut the person would bleed out in a short matter of minutes and die. It really depends on how deep the cut is into the artery but, either way, when that artery is cut, that persons life is at great risk and they need to be rushed to the emergency room. Because of the lack of oxygen to the brain, this will cause the person to faint or go into a coma depending on how much blood loss and this could also cause permanent brain damage. For first aid there really isn't much you can do unless you have medical instruments and can clamp the artery shut to stoop the blood loss. If this is a real situation and you are seeking answers from the internet and this person hasn't been seen by an emergency technician then this person is already dead. Clammy skin and shaking are the result of too much blood loss.  (+ info)

How deep is your carotid artery?

I'm doing a project for health on arterial anatomy and I need to know how deep the carotid artery is.( i.e. How close to the surface of your skin) I've been to several medical sites and I can't seem to get a clear answer. Not to mention all the medical jargon is driving me nuts. I just want to get this stupid project overwith. Can anyone help me?

About 1 1/2 inch.in from the skin.
Put your finger up to the side of you throat just under the jaw where the jaw leads to the ear. press in about 1" and you will feel you heart beat.  (+ info)

Could it be life threatening or fatal to go on a treadmill with a knot in the carotid artery?

Is it life threatening or fatal to be put on a treadmill during a stress test with a knot in the carotid artery?
----------

There are 2 different types of stress tests.
One is when they give you medicine that speeds your heart up (a little easier to control) or, you could go on the treadmill.
If your carotid artery is occluded, that's a concern.
Your cardiologist would know best.
A "knot" really isn't enough info.
Good luck.  (+ info)

Is there an online community for patients with carotid artery dissection?

My mother has a dissection of both her carotid arteries and her doctors keep telling her how rare it is. I know there has to be more patients out there and I was wondering if there was an e-mail list or an online website group for people with this condition.
----------

I had the same condition 2 years ago (both carotid arteries were dissected and about 90-95% closed). And I also heard that it is extremely rare.
I did not have any invasive procedure but was on blood thinners for about a year. After that, the arteries appeared to be completely healed and opened.
I hope that your mother will recover soon as well.
I don’t know if there is a web group, but you may contact me if you have any additional questions.

A question about the carotid artery and the throat?

I have a knot in my neck. I saw a doctor today and he said it was my carotid ball. Supposedly it has something to do with my lymphnodes and my immune system. I was wondering why mine would be abnormally swollen and how would I be able to check this?
----------

Wow, i just had this done today. I was at my Dr.'s office last week and i told him it hurts real bad to turn my neck to the right but i can turn it to the left. He listened to my neck with a stethoscope and then ordered a carotid Doppler done on both side of my neck. I guess the lady in the office said my Dr. heard something. He will be calling me in a few days with results. Go to your Dr. now and ask for the Doppler test to be done on both side. Takes about 30 Min's ... maybe 45 min.'s tops and all you have to do is lay there.
good luck.  (+ info)

A pacemaker for a blocked carotid artery?

My friends mom went to a docter, and said her doctor told her she had a blocked carotid artery and she needs surgery to put a pacemaker in. Now, I thought a pacemaker is to regulate heartbeat? What does a blocked carotid artery possibly have to do with a pacemaker?
----------

There are a few possibilities:

She has both a blocked carotid (In the neck) artery and some type of heart rhythm disturbance that needs a pacemaker. Two totally unrelated problems. OR..

She has a blocked Coronary (in the heart) artery. Just because you have a blocked coronary artery doesn't mean you need a pacemaker. Again, two mostly unrelated problems. OR..

Anyone that has had a stent in either carotid or vertebral artery?

My symtoms are dizzy, vertigo, auditory distortions, balance issues, confusion. Wow sounds bad. Anyway I am having a vertebral stent put in. My question is, if successful how soon should some and I hope all symptoms go away? Realizing the carotid blockage presents differently but think same result for another set of problems. Guessing restoring proper amounts of blood flow to the brain is the cure.
----------

They should resolve very quickly after the stenting.

best of luck.  (+ info)
