How do I improve my cardiovascular endurance?

I really need to improve my cardiovascular endurance so that I can (at least) run 3 km (around 1.86 miles) in 15 minutes or less even! Right now, I can't do that. I run on my treadmill and increase the time that I run at 6 mph by one minute everyday. Right now, i can run 8 minutes nonstop at 6 mph, but that's it. Please help me with some knowledge on how to achiever this goal ASAP.

What are some of the benefits of both cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength?

What are the benefits of both Cardiovascular Endurance and Muscular Strength and how would you measure them?
----------

The best benefit of cardio is it keeps you healthy; it lowers your blood pressure, lowers bad LDL cholesterol, lowers blood triglyceride levels, keeps your metabolism higher, and dozens of other health benefits.

But if you specifically wanted to know the benefit of cardiovascular ENDURANCE.. you can do physical activity longer and more comfortably. You can measure your endurance by seeing how fast you can run a mile, or by seeing how many miles you can run.

Benefits of muscular strength... well you can lift heavier objects. Realistically, there isn't much of a need for having big muscles in terms of function in today's society. It really dosen't matter if I can bench press 300 lbs, does it? I don't remember the last time I really had to push a giant rock off my chest.  (+ info)

What can I do to retain my built muscle and run intensly to build cardiovascular endurance?

I plan on going to the Air Force Academy in 3 years (I'm almost a sophmore) and I want to practice my cardiovascular endurance (after I'm done gaining my muscle for the tests), but I want to keep that muscle so I can do well on both parts of the tests. What do I need to eat/do to make sure that my body doesn't eat up my muscles while I'm training for my cardio tests?

Examples of cardio tests would include the 600 yrd run in 2:30-3:00 minutes, and the 1.5 mile run in 8:30 (my goal).

NOTE: I'm not done building muscle, I just want to know this for the future in case I have to modify something now.
----------

Include weight training. Also, include exercises like pullups, situps, and pushups. Not only are these exercises on the candidate fitness test, but they are also on the Air Force Academy's physical fitness test every semester. Also, if you can choose hilly terrain to do your running, that would be ideal for preparation for the Academy. Remember to keep your grades up and start thinking about that Congressional nomination early.

Does diabetes link to cardiovascular disease and should I eat white chocolate?

I have cardiovascular disease and I was reading up on it in my book. I encountered that many things are similar to diabetes, do they link and can I get diabetes? Also my doctor told me that my diet should consist of a moderate amount of dark chocoate, can I eat white/ milk chocolate too?
----------

dark chocolate is the only chocolate you should eat for your health. try and get 70% or higher cocoa. milk chocolate is better than white chocolate... white chocolate isn't even real chocolate. milk chocolate isn't good for you b/c it is too high in saturated fat and doesn't contain enough antioxidants to be considered good for you.

yes, diabetes is linked to cardiovascular disease. if you eat crap, and don't exercise, you will probably become diabetic at some point in your life  (+ info)

What are some ways of preventing infections in wrestling?

I am a 15 year old freshman girl and i am going to join my high school's coed wrestling team next year. I know that if you wrestle you can get certain infections.

1.) I want to know what are some of the different infections.

2.) Also I want to know how I can prevent myself from getting these infections.

3.) Why do wrestlers get these infections?

Thanks to anyone who can help!
----------

good luck, wrestling is a tough sport.

1. The most common form of infection is ring worm. Then there are rare cases of herpes and impetigo. Those last two are rare. After 10 years of wrestling I knew maybe 6 total people to get either of those.
2. The best way of preventing those kinds if infections is to shower 2-3 times a day. I would shower in the morning, right after practice, and at night. ALSO check to make sure your wrestling coach is mopping the mats EVERY DAY before practice (or getting one of the wrestlers to do it). You will see more cases of these infections on unclean mats.
3. Wrestlers get these infections bc of the main reason above... not washing the mats and not washing their bodies. Basically a mat room can reach temperatures over 100 degrees, there is a lot of sweat, people are sweating on each other, and sometimes you get those certain people that dont shower too often so they can infect others.
-Again I wouldnt worry about it. Ringworm goes away after a couple weeks of putting tinactin or lotrimin on it and it doesnt itch or anything. Just keep your body clean and make sure you are showering w anti-bacterial soap.

What is the relationship between pressure, flow and resistance in the cardiovascular system? What determines r

What is the relationship between pressure, flow and resistance in the cardiovascular system? What determines resistance in the CV system?
----------

Pressure = Flow x resistance. (akin to Ohm's law: Voltage = current x resistance)

Resistance is mostly determined by the contractile state of the arterioles, which are the resistance vessels. Capillary resistance also contributes.  (+ info)
