Do light chemical burns leave scars?

I just used Jasco's Paint Remover on my bicycle and I think I might have gotten some of the stuff on my knees and one of my elbows =[

My knees are both a little bit red with small white dots and my left elbow has a lighter red area. I they did not feel terribly irritated and i rinsed them for a very long time in water. I was wondering if these light burns will leave a permanent scar.
----------

I doubt it very much - you rinsed it with plenty of water so you should be fine.  (+ info)

Did Chinese flip-flops purchased at Wal-Mart cause skin rashes or chemical burns?

According to Snopes.com they did and are being recalled for severe chemical burns due to cheap lead paint being used...I'm definately never going to buy Chinese unless it's at a restaurant...what do you think about this?
----------

I saw the picture's of one guys feet after wearing those flip flops nasty. but what do you expect when you buy cheap you get cheap, The old saying you get what you pay for. It would be nice to think what you buy is safe. I pray that no children wore these and had bad reactions, The thought alone saddens me.  (+ info)

are you supposed to scratch chemical burns?

are you supposed to let the chemical burns stay because if you scratch them from the scalp they'll bleed or should you scratch them out
----------

Don't scratch.... let it scab over and heal then use oil sheen or hair oil, work it in then slowly break up the scab. Make sure you deep condition your hair to make sure it heals and avoid further damage  (+ info)

After putting a perm in my hair fell out, now I have bald spots and chemical burns what product should I use?

Please do not use any more chemicals on your hair or scalp. Get a really good deep conditioner and maybe a scalp oil from your hair salon. You could also go to the doctor and have your scalp checked out incase your burns get infected. It is all about recovery and repair for you at this point. While doing a perm, you should always follow the directions on how long to keep the chemical on. Some people might think that the longer you leave that stuff on, the more curly your hair will be but that is so not true. The longer it stays on, the more it breaks down the hair and eventually it turns mushy and breaks off. Any other chemical that you put on top of already damaged hair will just make it so much worse. good luck.  (+ info)

How do I treat a chemical burn?

I burnt myself on bleach earlier [I have a sensitivity to it - so I wore gloves, but ended up getting a burn on my wrist.] I originally assumed that the redness on my wrist was just irritation to the bleach, but now the skin is cracked and blistering.

I've had burns before, both second and third degree burns and know how to care for the burn. I've never had a chemical burn though and was wondering if it's treated the same way, or is there something specific I need to do where it's a chemical burn.

Thanks!
----------

Simple enough to treat :D
Remove from the chemical (which you did )
Wash in copious amounts of water .. If it is still red and inflamed in am call your DR . Yes I know it is a holiday but they have Dr's on call for this purpose ... Chemical burns are then cared for the same way as any other burn keep clean and dry you can apply an ointment such as neosporin to help heal it .. Change your bandages through out the day or as they get soiled ;)  (+ info)

Sulfuric Acid and Chemical Burns?

In order to get repiratory chemicals burns from inhaling chemicals, do you usually have symptoms like sore throat, lung edema, etc.

I work in a chem. lab sometimes, and sometimes you accidently smell fumes from chemials, but these concentrations are fairly low. I never get any soar throats, coughing, wheezing, etc., but I just want to make sure that I am not doing any damage.
----------

Acidic or basic gases become unsupportable before reaching a really dangerous level. If you know that you are at risk to inhale something, use a mask.
Working in chemical industry that was the general approach. Also, your coworkers informed you that they were working with something dangerous - which meant also to keep an eye on them.
We had every six month a check-up by the medic, a general blood test was included, but rather focalised on solvents,  (+ info)

Second Degree Chemical Burns from Hair Dye?

Over three weeks ago I got my hair blonde...Bleached pretty much by a professional. Underneath the hair dryer I felt horrible burning pain. The next night I was in the hospital. My scalp was covered in second degree burns. Has anyone else heard a case like this from getting bleached or stripped of color?
Three weeks later I am still have complications with my hair. Does anyone have any advice on actions I should take or what should be done. The hair saloon is claiming that I am allergic to their product. But I had my hair dyed there 3 times before without any complications. Plus I think from burns this severe I would have went into anaphalaytic shock. Please, I'll take any advice.

Unfortunately your experience isn't unusual.

From your description of the service the stylist used a lightener on your hair. There are a number of things which could have gone wrong, none of them your fault, and almost never due to an allergic reaction.

The most common cause of burns during a lightening service is the use of the wrong product. Most lighteners are not formulated to use on-the-scalp and those that are are not meant for use with anything greater than 20 volume developer. AND those for use with 20 V developer are NOT supposed to be used under heat. Heat accelerates the bleaching process and can be very dangerous to your skin.

The other possibility is that the product was simply left on too long. There is a temptation sometimes to allow a color to continue processing when you do not get the desired results in the amount of time given in the instructions for the product; some people's hair processes faster, some slower. The stylist MAY have done this, but not knowing the specifics of the service I can't say.

One thing's for sure, I would document everything you can remember. If you can't remember which product was used for your service I would call the salon and ask them anonymously what lighteners they use and what lines they carry. I would definitely pursue restitution, as, in my experience, this is almost always the fault of the stylist. The salon should have insurance in place to take care of your medical bills and should, if they are reputable, agree to provide treatment for your hair, as well.

When having your hair colored or lightened in the future be sure to ask that they do a patch test prior to the service to rule out an allergic reaction. It's well worth the extra time.  (+ info)
