How to resolve dry mouth syndrome?

I think I might have dry mouth syndrome, I usually have quite thick/stringy saliva and frequently feel very thirsty.

Who would I see about this, my doctor or dentist?! (I'm in the UK)
----------

As a dentist, I've never really heard about Dry Mouth Syndrome. I do know that there is such a thing as dry mouth. Usually dry mouth occurs in people who have cancer due to radiation damage. If your symptoms include that of being thirsty all the time, it may be some metabolic problems. If it is not summer where our body usually needs more water or dry seasons and then you feel frequently thirsty, you might wanna check on your doctor. If I'm not mistaken, it can be diabetes. But just tell your doctor that you feel thirsty all the time or frequently, assuming you have to have more than 8 glasses of water a day to quench it.

Otherwise, with you having thick stringy, ropey saliva, it doesn't necessarily mean you have dry mouth. In fact, you will only have minimal saliva if you have "dry mouth". Having thick saliva is actually good because it makes your teeth more resistant to caries or tooth decay. Your saliva neutralizes much of the acid we consume in our diet or drinks, making our teeth not too prone to damage along with our usual good oral hygiene habits, of course.

So, I wouldn't really be concerned if I were you, if only for the thickness of saliva. The thirsty part of it though, I will ask the doctor..... just to be safe and sure that I am healthy.  (+ info)

Burning sensation in my mouth after taken out tooth?

I have recently removed my tooth at the dentist and i noticed that there is a burning sensation comming from my mouth not from the tooth which has been removed. it is my whole mouth which is burning. Can anyone suggest any possible cause.
----------

That actually happened to me before and it was because there was an infection present in the tooth/root and when the tooth was pulled the infection spread to the entire gumline. Call dentist and he/she should could you out some antibiotics.  (+ info)

How do i treat mouth burn syndrome?

Hey Mark,

I have that too, I posted a question on it I think last week- I dont believe I recieved any answers. I have had it since last october. Some days I dont notice it other days I am miserable. I assume you are talking about burning mouth syndrome? I dont think my doctor had heard of it. I have yet to ask the dentist. I have done some internet research on burning mouth syndrome and it can be causes by a host of things. I believe mine is from worrying/stress and I also have OCD -obsessive compulsive disorder. I wonder do you have any of those? If you do it might be one reason as to your burning mouthing syndrome. Depression can also be a source of burning mouth sydrome. I believe there are other reasons as well. If you like you can e-mail me @

PLEASE HELP NOW!!! I ate really really really hot hotsauce and my mouth is BURNING, how do I make it stop?

Wow it really hurts, I tried milk and while it's in my mouth it's fine and then it hurts again, is there something I can eat that helps at all?
Thanks, I had plain oatmeal and added a little bit of sugar and my mouth feels better. Feel free to answer the question though, so I can use your advice for future reference.
----------

Use the milk, but don't swallow it, rinse and spit, otherwise you're moving the capsaicin further down your throat. You could also try a sugar solution.  (+ info)

What could be the cause of mouth itching/burning after having soy milk or certain fresh fruits?

My lips, gums, and tongue itch and burn very badly when I drink certain brands of soy milk (unflavored), or eat fresh fruit such as bananas or apples (pears have no effect). The fruit has to be fresh - canned or cooked fruit does not have this effect. It's been a problem my whole life, but I've yet to find anyone else who experiences this.
----------

it could be a allergic reaction to these things. i get the same way only when i eat any type of pineapple . bu i still eat it as its so yummy!!!  (+ info)
