What brain and body diseases have been cured due to animal testing?
I'm totally against animal testing but I'm doing this project and I have to take an unbiased view... but no one seems to want to tell me how certain diseases have been cured. Do you know any diseases (brain and body) that have been cured due to animal testing? Please provide sources so I can check it out myself.
In 1937 the US government required that all drugs to be used by humans must be tested on animals first. other countries soon followed suit. So the simple answer is any disease that has been cured since 1937. But a really good example is rabies. since the carrier of rabies is animals. good luck with the report and i hope you learn a learn a lot. (the wiki page will take a while to get through) (+ info

neurogenetic diseases, eg. Huntington’s disease and muscular
developmental disorders, eg. cerebral palsy;
degenerative diseases of adult life, eg. Parkinson’s disease and
metabolic diseases, eg. Gaucher’s disease;
cerebrovascular diseases, eg. stroke and vascular dementia;
trauma, eg. spinal cord and head injury;

Do all prion diseases predominately affect the brain?
It seems that way, but since they're just misfolded proteins it's strange for them to only attack the brain.
Prion diseases OR "transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs)" are a family of rare progressive neurodegenerative disorders that affect both humans and animals. They are distinguished by long incubation periods, characteristic spongiform changes associated with neuronal loss, and a failure to induce inflammatory response.
(originate in brain, so, its common to say brain diseases).
The causative agent of TSEs is believed to be a prion. A prion is an abnormal, transmissible agent that is able to induce abnormal folding of normal cellular prion proteins in the BRAIN, leading to brain damage and the characteristics signs and symptoms of the disease. Prion diseases are usually rapidly progressive and always fatal.
A List of Prion Diseases
Listed below are the prion diseases identified to date. CDC does not currently offer information here on every prion disease listed.
Human Prion Diseases
Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD)
Variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (vCJD)
Fatal Familial Insomnia
Animal Prion Diseases
Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE)
Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD)
Transmissible mink encephalopathy
Feline spongiform encephalopathy
Ungulate spongiform encephalopathy (+ info
How many diseases does the brain have?

How many diseases does the brain have?
Please help meee
Well, your question is very vague. Its like asking how many hairs are there in the head of an average person. The brain, like any other body parts can be affected by lots of conditions. However, let me try to generalized things for you.
The brain could get infections (bacterial, viral,fungal, etc.). Brain stroke which is a disease of the blood vessels in the brain could also get affected. Trauma to the head could produce brain damage. Certain drugs also predispose to some conditions in the brain. In addition to these, several general medical conditions such as diabetes, old age, degenerative nerve diseases, hypertension, cardiac problems, etc. can affect the brain. (+ info
What diseases are associated with brain atrophy?
My grandmother has been coming to me lately wanting me look up different medical things and this is her latest question.
There are many conditions and diseases that can cause this.
Any of the auto-immune diseases especially those that cause clotting can cause atrophy of the brain. Antiphospholipid Syndrome is one that comes to mind. (+ info

What are 3 Brain diseases that can only be treated by surgery?
If there are 3 brain diseases that can only be cured by surgery if there are less name them if all can be cured without the use of surgery please state that. Describe all the diseases listed THANK YOU
Most any vascular disease, malignant tumor, benign growth (vascular and non-vascular) and neurological disorder I can think of that would be treated surgically would also be treated with focal or whole brain radiotherapy, medications, chemotherapy... and I can only think of two exceptions to that given our constant attempts at less invasive procedures
Hydrocephalus. The only treatment I know of for that is implanting a shunt.
Moyamoya Disease... I know of no non-surgical treatment for that either.
I can't come up with a third... sorry :(
Edit: It should be noted that the Chiari malformation is generally what causes (or at least accompanies) hydrocephalus... so I'm not sure this would count as two separate disorders, especially if this is like... Neurosurgery homework or MCAT question - lol (+ info
Can a brain CT scan show damages related to past drugs use or the likelihood of getting neuro diseases after ?
