What are some symptoms that death is near whenever you have a frontal lobe brain tumor?

I needed to find out what the symptoms are the last days or weeks before a person dies from a frontal lobe brain tumor. I cannot seem to find it anywhere on the internet and whenever I looked up the question on yahoo answers all I found was people saying "depends on what type of tumor it is" what are symptoms whenever someone gets a frontal lobe brain tumor and what are some symptoms that shows that death is near? thanks so much
----------

Here's a question I found on the below website.

On March 5th of this year, my father was diagnosed with an astrocytoma on the right frontal lobe of his brain. Before this, my wonderful 61 yr old father was a healthy, vibrant, hardworking man who never missed a day of work. I noticed that he was sleeping more frequently, forgetting to get up for or go to work, and forgetting most of his normal duties. (i.e. pay the bills, shower, etc). His medical doctor broke the news to he and my mom sending him to UAB for treatment. UAB confirmed and started planning his treatment. Surgeons went in to remove the tumor but were only able to obtain a portion for a biopsy to see what type/grade tumor they were dealing with. The grade 4 GBM, which we soon found out, was so deeply woven into his brain that there was no need to operate. Oncologists began what they call paliative treatment to try to try to give him the longest and best quality of life possible. The affects of the chemo, radiation, and steroids were heartbreaking. After 1 round of treatment my father refused anymore. (Accept for the steroids which my mom, an RN of at least 30 years, refused to stop giving him). Now, 7 months later, he is mostly immoble and is under hospice care. my mother cares for him and keeps vigil 24/7. He seems to be in a lot of pain but can't or won't say what's hurting, screaming out in agony. Dad still has a good (too good) appetite. (thanks to the steroids) But he is very weak, fatigued, confused, hallucinating, and often times having moments of vagal responses where he seems to be having a seizure but according to drs are not seizures. He is incontinent and needs to be fed. There are days when he sleeps a lot and others where he hardly sleeps at all. I miss my dad already. This horrible disease has taken away the onle man besides my 5 year old son who has ever truly loved me and whom I have ever truly loved. Even though he's still alive I feel that I lost him months ago. I too would like to know what to look for in the end. Its not that I want him to die, or that im waiting on death to come. But how much longer does his suffering last and how will my family and I know that the end is approaching?

And yes, it does depend what type of tumor it is and which side of the frontal lobe it's located. GBM is the worst. Most others can be resected and may or may not grow back.  (+ info)

What do u think of terminating the life of a patient with brain stem death?

U know that comatosed patients with 4th degree coma(brain stem death) will never regain their concousness as they lost their higher respiratory functioning center, so they will stay on the ventilator for the rest of their lives, so in our country we have the right to terminate their lives by switching off the ventilators(life support devices) or deprivation of the cardiac muscle support( dopamine, adrenaline) , but after the consent of their family i.e if their family asked to as they cannot afford for the expenses of the ICU stay.....Now this issue is out confusing me as it is lately stired it up again in our country for organ donations issue from the clinically dead donors

Help me the pricking of conscience is killing me .. almost all the doctors r with this idea and consider them almost dead but Am i a doctor but not doctor minded? .. Am i wrong or right?
Caffsans , in ur country organ donation is easy , while in ours it is restricted to certain conditions!
Nursus , i know a friend who regained his conciousness after 4 months coma, but i am talking about Brain Stem Death! that is another thing = clinically dead, he is dead with his heart beating !
----------

You did not wrote the age of the patient, if he has crossed senior citizen level than its ok to terminate the life if it is living on life supporting measures alone & even if the family is capable for expenses towards ICU! Other wise as general medical practitioner because i witnessed at few occasions, I do believe in miracle to happen but within six month time and if no signs of any small improvement is noticed/seen within this time than there is no point to continue life like that as every one knows it is a brain DEATH!! Do consider that by keeping this patient alive only on life supporting system you are helping him or doing worse to him! Its a Total wastage of your & of all concerned valuable time,
Money, drugs, and what not? Deviate your thoughts and keep busy doing other work and forget this patient! Believe me by terminating the life of this particular patient you are doing a good favor to his soul to have a waiting another life of next birth! His soul will bless you! Today it’s a MOTHERS DAY and here I am shouting at the top of my lungs that if this had been the case of my own mother I surely would have done what I wrote here! BELIEVE THAT LIFE IS A GAME OF CHANCE AND CHOICE! TRUTH REMAINS TRUTH AND IT MUST BE TOLD EVEN IF IT HURTS! SO THIS IS THE TRUTH! Truth is GOD! You and Me & all Doctors should always be practical and not so sensitive because they have to take so many decisions in against the nature & human made laws! THERE ARE FEW COUNTRY IN WHICH THIS MERCY KILLING EUSTHANIA IS LEGALLY ACCEPTED LAWFULLY.IN FUTURE THIS SURELY BE THE RULE THROUGHT OUT THE WORLD OF COURSE WITH FULL PROOF LAW TOWARDS THE VERDICT TO BE MADE! All country should pass a law to have organ donations in such a cases with the consent of the nearest family memebers !!Actually all persons those who want this to be done than before anything happens to them they should give verdict for their organ to be donated in a case of their BRAIN death for transplantaion to make other human life to live happily !God bless you! DO GOOD BE GOOD AND KEEP SAMAMTA! i AM ALWAYS YouRsmE  (+ info)

Can the brain be completely removed from the body and then put back in without resulting in death?

Could doctors remove someone's brain completely then put it back in?
What would happen during the time that the brain is out of the body?
Could it then be put back in, reattached, and could the person return to normal?
Or would the person just be dead once the brain was removed?
Or maybe if the person died when the brain was removed, the person would be resurrected once the brain was hooked back up?
----------

Once you sever someone's brain from their brain stem you can't just hook them back up. There are thousands of very delicate nerve endings and fibers that would have been separated from the spine. The brain would not be functional anymore anyway from lack of oxygen. This isn't like plugging and unplugging your computer.  (+ info)

How long can a person with brain cancer go without eating before death?

My bestfriends grandfather has a brain tumor and 3 types of cancer he hasnt eaten in 12 day's how long can a person go without food in that sort of situation
----------

There are no timelines to how long someone can go without eating before death. Usually, weight loss and no appetite is a precursor to death in some cancers, but not always. If he has 3 or 4 types of cancer, I am guessing that this is incurable and the best thing to do may be to make him comfortable so he can die peacefully, if this is what the family and doctor decide.
As a health professional, I would say that a cancer patient who hasn't eaten in 12 days will probably die in a short period of time. If the family chooses to have him admitted to the hospital, they can give him medications that will make it easier for him to eat and perhaps a tube to eat through that will send nutrition into his body.  (+ info)

yesterday my to be husband passed away they said a massive heart attack.no brain pattern did that mean death?

I lost my fiance to a massive heart attack yesterday, they did an eeg,and then an mri still no brain pattern.he was put into a coma and then they started to take down his pain meds to see if he would snap out of it.he was 49 with a history of heart problems.do you think that maybe he would have woken up and do they know that you are there?
----------

I'm really sorry for your lost. The brain functions everything and when the brain is dead (meaning no brain pattern), they are no longer able to sustain the vital organs. Even when the body is kept alive with modern equipment, it's just a body. I'm really sorry. I hope you continue to live on a good life.  (+ info)

what happens to brain cells after death?

during my childhood i suffocated and had to be revived...what would have happened to my brain cells while i was dead/unconscious. did brain cells die? did my I.Q. go down? am i less smart?
----------

How long were you down for?

Being down for a couple of minutes will do no irreversible damage. Was it just breathing or did the heart stop too? If the heart was still beating, then there's even less of a chance of any damage.

The generally accepted average for brain damage to begin is four minutes. Not, that's an average and it's for it to begin. This does not mean brain damage occurred.

It also depends on what was damaged. Some parts of your brain have absolutely nothing to do with intelligence. Other parts are very important as far as stored experiences. If you have a brain scan done they'll be able to tell you.

Your IQ is determined by your ability to retain information and solve problems, not how much you know. IQ is not something that is always the same either. You have to work at it to increase it. Those who are considered to be genius generally come from mentally stimulating households.

There are just so many factors. If you have no decreased motor function, then likely not I'd imagine.

When you die, your body lives for a while longer, if that makes sense.  (+ info)

Exactly how does a brain stem tumour cause death?

I realise there are a number of ways this tumour can end a life. I am nursing someone who has this and I would like to understand more of the ways it may end. A brief explanation would be appreciated.
----------

As the tumor grows it cases pressure and eventual decay of brain tissues.
There are vital brain tissues - such as the ones which control the breathing center - and their destruction causes rapid death.
There are less vital brain tissues that their destruction causes paralysis, and loss of consciousness, making the person restricted to bed. People restricted to bed are prone to infections, problems in their breathing, blood pressure, kidney and liver failure, that causes death within a few weeks.  (+ info)
