I was recently diagnosed with the blood clotting disorder MTHFR and Protein C. Can I take fertility drugs?

Also I have PSOS. Which I take 500 mg of glucophage a day. My husband and I have been TTC for the past 7 months with no luck. My doctor mentioned taking the fertility drug Letrazole. Can I take that with the blood disorders I have? Has anyone else been on Letrazole?
----------

You (or your doctor) need to discuss this with your blood specialist. Some fertility drugs do increase blood clotting.  (+ info)

Does anyone know about the blood clot disorders: low Protein C & S?

I had a pulminary embolism 1 yr ago and was put on Coumadin for 10 months. Is that long enough or should I be on it for life, to prevent another clot? My only symptoms were shortness of breathe & very mild chest pain. Looking back I had some red blotches on my face and chest in the mornings only. And I had some swelling in my ankles and hands at night & morning, and boughts of extreme fatigue. (I assumed it was because of my age-39) I am getting the swelling back and have continued to get the occassional chest pain and one day I just couldn't wake up...are these signs of another clot?
----------

I have a different clotting disorder an am on Coumadin for life. I do not have statistics, but I do believe that chances of an event re-occurring is much greater when taken off anticoagulant therapy. Find a new and more knowledgeable Dr. Best wishes.  (+ info)

Has anyone had high protein in their urine without high blood pressure?

I am only 18 weeks pregnant and have had high levels of protein in my urine from the start 3+. I have done a 24 hr urine test and that came back bad. My doctor has tested me for Lupus and other auto immune disorders. They just called me and want me to see a specalist because that test also came back bad. Has anyone else had this problem?
----------

I'm not pregnant, but I had to do the 24 urine test for my visa because my blood pressure skyrocketed during the exam.

What made them make you do the 24 hour test without high blood pressure? There must have been some symptoms.

I did the 24 hour test and it came back perfectly fine, but all I do know is it checks to see if your kidneys are functioning properly. Or if your organs have been damaged due to high blood pressure.

Did you do any strenuous exercise during the sample collecting? That can throw off the numbers a good bit.

I'm sure the specialist will let you know what's going on. Don't stress about it too much. My thoughts and prayers are with you.  (+ info)

Can protein shakes push the level of urate in the blood past the acceptable limit?

Basically, I have just received a letter saying that a repeat blood test needs to be taken (part of a selection procedure). However, I am supplementing my gym workouts with whey protein quite heavily at the moment and so am wondering if I should stop in preparation for the repeat blood test. If so in what time frame? Cheers.

Yes, your diet can influence your blood results. But it also can be a sign of you having Gout. Consider that your body can't cope with your heavy protein diet. You will build up your muscles but destroy your health (joints). Read further- it is from Wikipedia, but you can research further.

In humans uric acid is the final oxidation (breakdown) product of purine metabolism and is excreted in urine.
Purines are found in high concentration in meat and meat products, especially internal organs such as liver and kidney. Plant based diets are generally low in purines.
Examples of high-purine sources include: sweetbreads, anchovies, sardines, liver, beef kidneys, brains, meat extracts, herring, mackerel, scallops, game meats, and gravy.
A moderate amount of purine is also contained in beef, pork, poultry, fish and seafood, asparagus, cauliflower, spinach, mushrooms, green peas, lentils, dried peas, beans, oatmeal, wheat bran, wheat germ, and hawthorn  (+ info)

Can whey protein shakes raise blood pressure?

I am 17 and was diagnosed with high blood pressure at my physical a few weeks ago. Since then, I have been monitoring my BP at home. Typically it had been around 140/70 but recently it has dropped to 106/51 (the lowest one I have recorded) I stopped taking whey protein and my dad insists that this was the cause. I was taking about 5 shakes a week for 2 years and used Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Protein.
----------

Bro, the whey protein might actually not be the problem. It could be all the chemical flavorings and ingredients they put in the whey. Baby food has whey protein. Virtually all dairy products have some amount of whey protein. The protein in milk is 20% whey, so whey in its concentrated form should be perfectly fine at any age as long as you are not lactose intolerant. Next time you are at the store look at the label on some baby formula. Even that has whey protein in it. Start reading labels and you will see many foods that contain whey, and are safe at any age.

Make sure you use a pure whey protein with No artificial Sweeteners, No artificial Flavors, No artificial Fillers etc.
