You are having squamous type of blepharitis mostly due to dandruff of the scalp.Treatment consists of 1) treatment of dandruff by daily shampooing with antidandruff shampoo 2) lid cleaning by cotton soaked in warm water every morning 3) use of antibiotic eye ointment 4) application of flaxseed oil on lid margin 5) oral B-complex  (+ info)

If you have Blepharitis are you still able to work on computers?

I had Blepharitis a few years ago and I looked pretty awful for a while. I worked as a secretary in a GP's surgery and had to use the computer all the time. It certainly didn't stop me from doing my normal work but it was very uncomfortable.  (+ info)

Has anyone used Manuka Honey to treat blepharitis?

Hi.

I was diagnosed with blepharitis back in March after having eyelid swelling, redness, pus etc. It's has cleared up and it's gotten to the stage where one eye is still a little swelled and red.

Have any sufferers tried Manuka honey to reduce inflammation etc? I've read on a few different sites that it's very effective.

Thank you.

Since blepharitis is caused bye either Dermatitis or a bacterial infection, logic would dictate that Manuka Honey would be effective. Even though there have been no clinical studies indicating Manuka Honey's effectiveness on this particular condition, Manuka Honey has been proven to be effective in treating both dermatitis and Staph infections. In addition, Manuka Honey has anti-inflammatory properties that can help with the irritation caused by this condition.  (+ info)

What cosmetics won't irritate blepharitis?

I'm an actress with blepharitis, and am in rehearsal for a show which will require heavy eye makeup and false lashes. If you have experience with this condition and can recommend cosmetics brands (of makeup, lashes, glue, remover, etc.) that won't irritate it, please let me know what they are.

Also, if there are brands you have tried which have caused flare-ups, please let me know, and I'll avoid those!

Many thanks!

Try to buy products 'for sentive skin', nothing waterproof (as in mascara). Since blepharitis is generally cause by an allergy, it maybe hard to find anything you can use. But, I have an aunt who has blepharitis and she uses Mary Kay products, for sentive skin, and she can use all but foundation around her eyes.  (+ info)

Does blepharitis cause Contact lens intolerance?

My retinal doc said i have blepharitis and thats why i cant wear contacts anymore. I always see double with contact lens. He said to use a hot towel and put it over my eyes but what will really cure this?
I just want to be able to wear contacts again :(. Isnt there some ointment or eye drop i can use every day? I dont mind using it several times a day i just dont wanna wear glasses anymore!

Blepharitis is almost like dandruff of the eyelashes. So, yes, it can cause contact lens intolerance because of irritation. The reason he told you to use a hot towel is because it will help "melt" the dandruff off your eyelashes gently. Another good thing that my eye doctor told me about is using a drop of Johnson & Johnson Baby Shampoo on a warm wet washcloth, and very gently scrubbing your eyelashes to get the dandruff off. It really did help my son.  (+ info)

Please answer if you have medical knowledge about blepharitis?

I was diagnosed today and will started my medications and drops tonight. I have had this problem for a good month before I finally went to the doctor. My doctor told me to throw away my mascara, and I forgot to ask him about my contact lenses and my eyeliners. My contact lenses are disposable and have been sitting in their sterile solution. My eyeliners are self-sharpening. If I break off the tops will that be okay, or should I throw them away? I have spent a lot of money on eyeliners, and there's no way I can remember which ones I wore and which ones I didn't, and I don't want to toss them if I don't have to. Thanks for answering.

You might try looking at it this way. Not that this is THE way.

The eyelid borders, or margins, have numerous glands. They're all along that border. IN the hair follicles themselves are glands (Zeis and Moll, I think) and there are the Meibomian glands which have about 20 or so openings along the lid margin. These openings are white and easy to see in the mirror.

Any time we put stuff along our lid margins that can stop up the openings or the lash follicle and bacteria have moved in for the weekend, they'll set up house and you'll have either an infection or an inflammation. Eye liner isn't dangerous. Mascara IS and should be replaced about once a month. So buy the little ones.

The bacteria that cause the inflammation are usually the 'normal' bacteria on the skin, Staph for instance. It just gets a nice closed space to multiply in and does so, you would too. If the irritants of toxins from the bacteria, as they eat on the gland secretions are injurious, the lid will become inflamed. With inflammation, the irritation causes the blood vessels to enlarge....so it looks redder.

With the blood vessels passing lots of blood, and stretching the walls, fluid will leak and go into the tissues, so it becomes swollen.

The stretching of the tissue HURTS, and you already know that part.

The idea in treating this is to remove the harmful or inciting substance whether it be make up (not all that often), or dead skin cells such as in seborrheic dermatitis or other skin rash. Keeping the lids free from the debris by gently cleaning. Use water and maybe gauze with a drop of baby shampoo to get rid of the oils, the dead skin, the debris. Then put the antibiotic ointment (drops don't work) inside the lower lid. As it melts, it'll coat the lid margins nicely, so no need to use a q-tip and rub it into the lid. You did clean all the stuff off already anyway.

This will be a recurrent thing. It'll come and go. Yes it does depend on your overall health. Diabetics with lots of sweet secretions will have a little harder time. Any immune problem...leukemia, cancers, collagen vascular diseases, arthritis, colitis, gastritis, bronchitis, etc. will sort of make things a bit easier for the bacteria. But the Rx is the same. Get rid of the sugar, you'll get rid of the ants.  (+ info)

What kind of treatments are effective for blepharitis, a disorder of the eyelid margin.?

Blepharitis, can be treated by care-full attention to hygiene of the eyes. Try using a Baby hair shampoo, mix approx. 1 teaspoon of shampoo with a half pint of fairly warm water, then take some cotton buds and dip them in the solution, wipe across the closed eyelid, from the nose out over and discard the cotton bud, use one cotton bud per wipe. repeat this 3 times on each eye, the condition should clear up in a few days. Continued eye hygiene is recommended to prevent recurrence.  (+ info)

Blepharitis;anyone else has this condition? What are you doing to relieve the Symptoms?

I have this condition. I'm supposed to be doing eye drops daily, an eyelid scrub and hot compresses 3 times a day. I'm not as disciplined with doing all this as I should be.

I was having a hard time with the hot compresses. I couldn't keep my rag hot long enough... and the gel eye masks were hard to keep warm as well. I did some research online and discovered that feed corn stays warm. I had my mother-in-law make me an eye mask and fill it with feed corn. You put it in the microwave for like 40 seconds and it stays warm for quite some time. It's awesome.  (+ info)
