How bad are rose hair tarantula bites?

I'm thinking about getting one, and i know they rarely bite, but out of curiosty, how painful are the bites? some people compare it to bee stings, and someone else compared it to a cat scratch.

By the way, ive never been stung by a bee

Reaction can depend on a lot of factors, such as amount of venom injected (a lot of the bites are "dry" bites, meaning they gave no venom), and personal sensitivity to the venom. I have heard from specialists that tarantula venom cannot cause an allergic reaction like bee and wasp stings can because tarantula venom is made of basic peptides instead of proteins.

What you probably will have to worry about more is the tarantula's urticating hairs. Those are specialized hairs that new world (from the Americas) tarantulas have that they can kick off. Like with the venom, some people are more sensitive to them than others. These hairs can cause rashes, and could do damage if they get in the eyes or nose.  (+ info)

Insect Bites/Stings.?

Well summer is approaching, and I am allergic to almost all insect bites/stings (wasps, ants, mosquitoes, other bugs). Whenever I get stung by a mosquito the entire area swells up; if its my arm that entire half of my arm will become swollen. What can I do to relieve the swelling and itching? Its so gross especially when I'm out at a BBQ or the beach. The same thing happens to my sister.
Benadryl would be my first suggestion with advil to help with the pain. When we have an allergic reaction, our body produces too much histamine, and in turn swelling, itchy, and often painful results are what we get. Antihistamine such as benadryl is the solution.  (+ info)

BEE BITES AND STINGS...how severe can the allergie be?

i need to know some info on bee bites and stings please, this is really important.

my cousin has allergies to every type of bug bite and sting. The littlest of mosquito's bites swell up very quickly and has to take benedryl if more then 3 bites. She rarely ever gets stung or bit by bees. About 1.5 years ago, during her soccer game, she was running down the field and she got bit on her left leg, right below the knee cap on the muscular part
these were her symptoms:
quick swelling
pain to direct site of sting and around( lasted 2-3 days)
Cold sweats but the skin felt hot
numbing
little rash
itchy
a little difficult breathing


NOTE: she does not carry an EPI PEN!

I just want to know like how bad these allergies can get and how would i convince her to go see a doctor to be tested. She is terrified of needles like me as well. She is working outdoors this summer as well so i am worried for her. or does any one else in this network have an allergie to bee's want to give me some detail about this
i know she has told me her throat was scratchy and all those other symptoms(hard to believe, etc). this is not close to Anaphylactic shock is it
On a scale of 1 to 10 your cousin had a 5.5 - 6 reaction.A moderate to severe reaction. The worst reaction possible is Anaphylactic shock, which can be fatal. Bee Sting allergy reaction is usually Worse with each sting. The shortness of breath that she experienced is a very serious symptom. I am moderately allergic myself, I was stung on the bottom of my foot and my leg swelled up to my Knee, it took a week of antihistamine treatment to cure it. Your cousin should carry an epi-pen, 2 or 3 stings or even one sting near her neck or mouth would prove fatal. If she is silly enough not to seek medical assistance and advice then she should at least carry with her At All Times, a High dose fast acting Antihistamine in tablet and Nasal spray, preferably a prescription one, and a Prednisolone based adrenal-cortisol, which is only available on prescription.(Glucocorticoids are adrenocortical steroids, both naturally occurring and synthetic, which are readily absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. )
Epi-Pens work by spaying the drug under the skin and have saved thousands of lives.
Avoiding wearing floral scented perfume and body spray will help with prevention of insects being attracted to her. A course of desensitization treatment would be warranted in her case.
There is also a naturopathic treatment system available, which should only be prescribed by a trained professional.
I don't understand why she would be so off handed about her health, is the cost of an Epi-Pen and a silly fear of needles worth her life?  (+ info)

How rare are true allergic reactions to mosquito bites?

I am not referring to a large, itchy bump. I mean a generalized reaction such as hives, stomach upset, or even analyphalatic shock. I am asking about a reaction such as some people get with bee stings.
Actually my cousin used to be allergic to mosquitos before she went to an allergist. The bites would make her vomit repeatedly.
I have honestly never heard of it but that doesnt mean it doesnt happen If you think you are that allergic go to the doctor to get check those kind of allergies can be fatal  (+ info)

I have always been a mosquito magnet. Mosquitos always love to bite me, and it just so happens that I react very seriously. Unless treated immediately (which is often impossible because they always bite when I’m asleep), the bites swell to a very large size. If I have more than one on my arm, my arm will be very lumpy and misshapen. Not only are they large, but they throb and itch very severely.

There are a lot of bees where I attend school now. The school has many flowers, so bees and wasps are not an uncommon sight. According to one of the staff, students get stung often.

If I react so severely to mosquito bites, how will I react to bee stings? I’ve never been stung before. For now, I carry tweezers and some sting relief ointment. Any ideas on what I should have with me in case of stings, and what could possibly happen? Thanks!

If mosquitos bite me on my eyelid or near my eye, I cannot see open it either. :]
There's no way to tell how you'll react to a bee sting. Mosquito saliva (they put it into you when they bite to keep you from bleeding) is completely different from bee venom. Plus, some doctors believe that bee venom can cure everything from arthritis to allergies, so a bee sting might even be beneficial to you (although, I wouldn't let myself get stung to see if it cures my mosquito allergy).
Oh, and for the mosquito bites, have you tried "After Bite"? My sister uses that and Clariton and it helps clear hers up quickly.  (+ info)

I was stung once on my upper arm and my arm swelled from my elbow to my shoulder. It was very painful. I also swell badly from mosquito bites although not as bad as bee stings. I do not recall difficulty breathing during any of this.
People are allergic to all sorts of things - me I have severe reactions to antibiotics - if I haven't taken them before the doctor gives me an epi-pen - if I have a severe reaction like I have had in the past (throad closure) - you simply inject yourself with this self loaded shot - now for your question.

Most people who don't have allergies to bee stings will get pain, itching, redness and swelling around the site of the sting. Actually, about 95 percent of bee stings are inflicted by yellow jackets, as opposed to honeybees or bumblebees.

How do you know if you are allergic to bees? It's really based on whether you've had an allergic reaction to a sting in the past. You may have a localized allergic reaction where you might get a huge amount of swelling and redness that develops over 24 hours and may not go down for a week.

Otherwise, you may have a generalized allergic reaction, called anaphylaxis, where you can develop hives, trouble breathing, and lightheadedness. Obviously, these reactions can be life-threatening, so you need to see an allergist if you've ever had a significant reaction to a sting in the past.

Also, be aware that an allergy can develop at any time during your life — and the more times you get stung in your life, the greater change you have of becoming allergic.

An epinephrine pen (or epi-pen) is a spring-loaded injector that makes it easy for people to administer epinephrine or adrenaline to themselves if they are having a severe allergic reaction. Anyone who has had a severe allergic reaction in the past, whether to bee stings or shellfish or some other allergen, should carry this with them at all times. It could save your life.  (+ info)

I have these awful small, stinging bites on my neck. How do I soothe the pain/itching?

I discovered these bites 2-3 days ago. I know they are not mosquito bites. I checked for bedbugs and unless there's a lone bug, they're not an issue. The bites are in a couple of clusters (total 10-12 bites) on my neck and at first were just irritating and not that itchy. They've gotten worse in itchiness and now sting like crazy. Today I noticed small blisters developing on a couple of the bites and on others a small dark spot that's not a scab. I'm taking Zyrtec by day and Benadryl at night, plus hydrocortisone cream by doctor's suggestion but am still in agony. Anyone know what is going on and how to help?!?!

well, what kind of bugs are there where you live?
I went to the seaside and got eaten alive by a multitude of bugs each leaving their distinctive mark.
I am still recovering a month later, the best thing I found is put some ammonia on some cotton then keep it on the sting and it'll flush out the whatever it is you have in there that itches.
It'll however turn it into a bit of a wound, depending on what the bug was and what your skin is like. It's that or the itching. It works in most cases. I use ammonia that's 5% ammonia the rest is water so that's quite diluited but still very strong stuff.

What kind of bug/animal is small, black, and bites?

I was in the shower and a bug (black. maybe 1 inch long, not very wide, had wings) bit my foot. It felt like a bee/wasp sting and left a huge welt with a hole in the middle on my foot. I didnt get a chance to really look at it because it went down the drain. I no longer have a big welt but it still stings and hurts. Any ideas?
No idea .
But that sounds really painful :(

Dog bites and cat bites are dirty and should be washed with soap and water immediately and seen at a hospital if blood is drawn.

Bee, wasp, yellow jacket stings: Remove the stinger if still in place by swiping with the edge of a credit card or something similar. Do not use a tweezers to pull out or you will end up squeezing the poison sack on the end of the stinger more and making the problem worse. Clean the area with soap and water and apply a cool pack or a bag of frozen peas works well. If the area starts to swell a bit, you should take some benadryl to reduce the histamine reaction which causes swelling. If swelling is bad or you start to have swelling in the face or throat or feel like you are having difficulty swallowing or breathing you should see a doctor immediately because you may be having a life threatening allergic reaction called anaphylaxis which can cause your throat to swell so much you can not breath. You should get someone else to take you to the doctor because it can cause your eyes to swell up so much you may not be able to see to drive.  (+ info)
