What is Mild-to-moderate cortical cerebral atrophy? What happens when you have it?

I had a closed head injury; but at that time didn't have an MRI of the brain. I recently had one due to another injury; I read the report and this is part of the diagnosis. I was wondering if this is the reason I have memory problems now, and trouble finding the correct words at times?
----------

It may be the reason you are having memory problems since the cerebral cortex is directly related to your ability to recall memories.

how to prevent atrophy in my broken foot?

I broke my foot during hockey last week and am now in a cast up to my knee for 6 weeks...how can I prevent atrophy in my leg?...are there any exercises, medicines, or foods that will help?
----------

You won't experience any atrophy in your leg within six weeks it takes a lot longer for muscle atrophy to begin. Right now you need to rest your leg and foot to allow it to heal, hence the cast. Once you have the cast removed you will most likely need physiotherapy to strengthen the leg and foot but that is normal. So right now don't worry, keep your leg elevated, wiggle your toes every now and then and get plenty of rest.  (+ info)

will muscle atrophy get rid of my muscles completely or will they stop shrinking after a while?

if they do stop shrinking how many inches will they take off my arms and chest roughly...
----------

Muscle atrophy is not a good thing, unless you are so muscle bound you need to lose muscle mass to get back to normal.

It depends on how long the atrophy continues. If it is due to malnutrition the muscles may be able to recover due to improved eating. Some diseases cause irreversible muscle atrophy. If atrophy continues unhindered you will eventually die. Technically your bones would be the determining factor of how small your arms get.  (+ info)
